Local tv ads are 'Store closing sale' and the list is mighty long, I don't imagine any will be left around here after this one.

It's sad, a long time ago they were a great store, then they lost their way, about the time of them expanding beyond the regular K-Mart stores, and never really found it again. I would say the closest analog now to what K-Mart was then is Target, IMHO.

I think a contributing factor is also staffing at K-Mart. Several of them around here have closed as well.

If you think about it - there were NEVER enough cashiers open, especially when they were busy. Rows and rows of cashier lanes and only 2-3 cashiers. It was so frustrating that I stopped going.

This is not the end of KMart. It may be the end of KMart where you live. It is for me too. All Texas KMarts are closing. But KMart, the corporation, is trying to save itself. This latest (and hopefully last) round of closures involves 326 stores. Kmart will continue to operate more than 1,500 stores across the United States, the Caribbean and Guam.

We got so frustrated shopping at K-mart for the same above listed reasons (never enough cashiers) that we just started taking the K-mart sale ad to Target & they'd honor K-marts prices. We were good friends (until they moved to Puerto Rico) with a K-mart Director & I used to complain to him all the time & he was aware of problems since he'd shop at the same K-mart but nothing ever changed.

Anyway, as my DH always said "TARGET RULES!" Amen to that!

LOL primax.

We never had more than two Kmarts in our area and they have been closed for a long time. One of them closed in the 80's. The other one closed in the 90's.

It's sort of sad.
