Some history. I have been to WDW several times and have stayed both on and off property and have always had a great time. I intend to go back for 9 nights (possibly as a solo trip) when it cools off in December. Guess what? I can't make up my mind where I want to stay. I will be buying an AP so I should be able to use the AP resort discount and I am also considering using PLine (done this once before) for a few nights at one of the resort hotels in DTD for the first weekend (yes I will have a vehicle). My budget for all 9 nights is $800. One exception, I have had a brief stay at the AS and don't really want to stay there again. I have considered renting DVC points for the S-Th stay but decided that I am willing to move once during the trip, but not twice (I would need two nights before checking in to DVC on Sun. and two nights after checking out of DVC on Friday - so I have ruled out this option as I would be moving hotels at least twice.)

So what are your suggestions and experiences in general? I have played around with staying at a moderate for the entire stay (est. with discount stay would total $810) but I may want the little bit of change halfway through. Awaiting your great responses?

How about doing 2 different moderate resorts? Like POR and CSR??

Yecats, whatever you do, do NOT check out Dreams Unlimited Travel's "WDW Resorts" webpage. And especially stay away from the streaming video footage that they have of each of the WDW resorts. DO NOT CLICK HERE IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO CHECK OUT ALL THE GREAT WDW RESORTS. You have been warned. ;)

Seriously, I like Scoootch's suggestion -- POR and CSR or CBR and POR or CSR and CBR or ... I have resort hopped during many vacations and it sure is fun getting to experience what the other resorts have to offer. My favorite moderate is PO-FQ, but I loved CBR and CSR just as much, too. The WDW moderates are great, in my humble opinion.

No matter what you decide to do, have fun planning your trip.

Thanks for the suggestions. I had originally wanted to stay at PORS (have briefly in past) but have seen a few reviews that the hotel/rooms are in need of the refurbishment that has already begun. I had thought about CBR and still playing around with the idea. My heart really wants to stay at WL or AKL but the cost for all the nights is way over the top and I can't justify it to myself (have to live on budget). Well at least I still have time to consider. More than most likely will probably end up at CBR for most of the trip.
