There are so many Myrtle Beach resort choices can you please help us!

We are thinking of going in August and have never been there. Does anyone have ANY suggestion of a good, fun family place to stay at? The only thing I know that I really want is a place that has a kitchenette in it.

We have 2 adults and 2 kids (ages 7 & 8 yrs old). This would be our first family vacation that is NOT Disney related. I am getting overwhelmed with all the choices there are and I am in need of some inexpensive really good suggestions.

Thanks ahead of time.

Chekc Travelzoo.com. They almost have somethign for Myrtle Beach. Look in the Atlanta 7 shoureast and also under Resorts.

I ahve stayed at Avista. I like the location (OD section, not right in the middle of all the craziness). They have a lazy river and both indoor and outdoor pools. I know a family that loves Crown Reef, too.

My grandmother lives in MB, so I can't help with the resorts...but I just wanted to say that it is hot as Hades down there in August. And super humid. Just be prepared for the heat and humidty and you'll have a good time.

We go to WDW in September every year because it's too crazy in the summer. So, for a summer getaway, we have a big family vacation in North Myrtle every year. I've been going there since I was a child and now we take our son there. It's way more quiet and less congested than Myrtle, and very family oriented. We rent a condo every year, usually through Myrtle Grand or Grand Strand Vacations. There are 14 of us - six of those are kids ranging in age from 2 to
10. This year we have a five bedroom condo, but you can find just about any size you need. Most places have oceanfront pools and lazy rivers (the kids love these). There are also homes for rent, but I can't comment because we've always stayed in a condo. There are many good restaurants, as well as Barefoot Landing (lots of shops, restaurants) and tons of kid's activities. Call soon, if you're interested, because things book up very quickly.

We stayed in the Schooner building, which is right on the pools and ocean. We had a full size fridge and microwave in our room. They do have rooms with ovens but we didn't need one.

They have nice pools, 2 small lazy rivers and the beach is right there. We are going back in September. They built 2 water slides over the winter so I don't know what they're like.

The hotel isn't on the main part of the strip so it isn't hectic or loud, and the parking is right there, not across the insanely busy street.

In the summer you will need to get up early and snag a few pool chairs. It is busy in the summer.

We're stayed at the crown reef which we used to love when it was new, but if I remember correctly someone posted on this board that it wasn't so great anymore, but they do have kitchenette's and nice set-ups for families and great activities for the kids.

We have also stayed at the Marriot Grand Dunes, I'm not sure if they have kitchenette's, but the place is beautiful and there are timeshares next door so you may be able to rent.

We're never been at that time of year, we have gone September (my favorite time) and April (weather unpredictible).

We always stay at Dayton House Inn. It's old but clean. It's safe and quiet - very family oriented. They have several pools, including a zero entry pool that DS LOVES. It's oceanfront and in between the pool area and the beach is a grassy area with lounge chairs, upright chairs, tables and umbrellas (free of charge). Last year we stayed in an angle oceanview room and used the efficiency kitchn (with full fridge and microwave) for breakfast and lunch.

It's close to pretty much everything.

We have vacationed in Myrtle Beach several times. We really enjoy it. I have personally stayed at The Caribbean Beach Resort in a two bedroom condo in the main building and it was superb. I have also stayed at the Boardwalk beach resort in the main tower in an oceanfront jacuzzi suit it was also nice. But, be warned of this hotel only stay in the main tower other buildings are old and in need of repair.

I would be more than happy to help you if you have a hotel in mind to share with you what I know. Myrtle Beach is rather large and spread out. It has north, main, and south Myrtle Beach.

I have also visited the first or second week in August and it is hot but the rates are down and the crowds are more managable.

You can PM me if you would like:)

You may also want to look at the surfside beach area (just barely south of myrtle proper), its a lot less crowded and still close enough to all of the action. I do NOT recommend the Days Inn!! I can't really comment on other hotels since we've only ever stayed at the Days Inn (eww) and then my inlaws purchased a condo so we stay there :goodvibes

We also have stayed at The Caribbean a couple of times and have been very pleased. We stayed in the newly redone tower last time and had a great time!

We stopped at MB on our way home from WDW last year. We stayed at the above resort. It was a little out-dated, but clean and reasonable. We stayed in a 3 BR 2 Bath condo.

There were several pools/lazy rivers and easy beach access (you are beachfront).

This resort is in the northern part of MB - away from the main strip. I thought it was great, because the main drag was just a short ride away (you really have to drive to get anywhere in MB anyway) but we had fewer resorts competing for beach space.

Also, this resort was next to a strip of beach-front vacation homes, so there was only one big resort next to it.

HTH!

We stayed at Landsmark Resort a few years ago and found the rooms to be musty and old. :sick:The water park and lazy river was okay. However, it is smack in the middle of a busy beach area and you have to park across the street unless you happen to get one of the few spaces to the side of the building.

The last few years we have ventured just south of Myrtle Beach to Pawley's Island. We stay at the Litchfield Beach and Resort Club. :thumbsup2

They have lots of different options for rooms. We actually stayed in a four bedroom condo (shared it with my brother and his family). The condo was beautiful with a full kitchen (granite, etc), dining area, family room, four large bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a washer and dryer. We rented it for $800.00 for the week (ended up being 400 for each family).:banana:

They also have one and two bedroom condos too. Our condo was not on the beach - it was next to the golf course so that it why the price was a great deal. We didn't mind since we kept all the beach gear in our car and just drove literally across the street and around a few condos to the resorts beach house and parking area. The beach access there is just for guests. They do have homes and condos that are oceanfront, and oceanview as well.

The resort has a large swimming pool with a lazy river and separate kid's pool with dumping buckets, etc. The beach is right there and not particularily crowded - this was at the height of summer the last week of June leading into the fourth of July holiday. You can also rent bikes to use for a day or your entire stay.

There is a Piggly Wiggly (large grocery store chain in the south) across the street and serveral restaurants to choose from besides the few at the resort itself. The resort has at least one nice sit down restaurant and then Starbucks and other things. There are lots of great local seafood places and even Subway to try if you want just outside the resort complex. It is definitely family oriented. It is quite a ways from all the Myrtle Beach proper action but that is what we like about it. It is much more tropical and relaxing with no huge hotels and crowds to deal with.

www.litchfieldbeach.com is the website.

We have stayed at the Compass Cove and Dunes Village (last week). We loved both!!!!! Both are about 2 miles (in opposite directions) from the center of MB. Dunes Village had a great indoor waterpark... compass cove had so many pools, lazy rivers you were tripping over them!

I would stay at both again! We are thinking of MB in Aug of 2011.... and actually considering North Myrtle instead.... I have heard its a little less crowded there in the summer months.

Good luck... I love the SC Grand Strand!

Thanks guys, there are just so many choices!

My husband has been looking at a place called Sea Mist. Anybody heard anything about it? He likes the concept of the family package they have where it includes amusement park tickets and it has a waterpark (like the beach and pool isn't enough)

Try vrbo.com

We have rented several condos over the years through private owners and got great rates.

I agree. We rented a condo at Myrtle Beach in 2009 that we found through this website, as well as a condo at Pensacola Beach in 2008. Currently looking there for 2011 spring break ideas!

We love Litchfield! It is a bit far from the action if that's what your looking for, which I am with two teenagers. We love the Bridgewater Hotel which is off the beach, but the condos are recently refurbished and the waterpark is great!

I wouldn't stay at the Sea Mist Resort! Read the reviews on www.tripadvisor.com The place seems to be old and run-down. We stayed at the Village Dunes Resort and really enjoyed the rooms there! They also have two indoor water parks you can have fun in when it's too hot outside! We live about an hour from the beach. Today it's 92 and humid! It's only the beginning! We are staying at a friend's condo at the Sand's Resort for two weeks towards the end of June. This resort has tons of activitiesfor the entire family! It also has it's own outdoor water park! Hope you have a great time no matter where you stay!

Add us to the list of Litchfield lovers. We've been going there regularly for about 15 years. If you want something reasonably priced look at the Seaside Inn which has two bedroom condos. It isn't on the ocean, but is right near the waterpark.

I like Litchfield because you can have a nice quiet beach getaway or be in the hustle and bustle of MB in a matter of minutes.
