So just why is Disney raising ticket prices so early

You - the generic all of you - are partially to blame for these large ticket increases. Disney does a ton of guest surveys both in the park and online and the vast majority of people always say that Disney is a good, very good or excellent value for the money. Once the suits see that, they know that they haven't reached the limit of what they can charge.

If those surveys start showing that people think Disney is a poor value, you'll see a change. Not until then, though.
It's the same way with Disney cruise prices. There are many people who will pay DCL's higher (and sometimes VERY high) prices - just because it's Disney. There are other cruise lines that I like as well as DCL, but there aren't other theme parks I love as much as Disney World.

An average movie ticket costs about $10, right? For two hours of entertainment, if you are lucky. Now, the movie might be horrible but you don't know that going in. So $5/hour for that. Don't add in popcorn or candy or anything. $5/hour if you are lucky and you like that movie.

Disney World. $85 for a one day ticket where you can get at least 8 hours. So, $12.50/hour. And that's only if you do a one day pass. Most of us complaining are not buying those types of tickets.

How about a baseball game? A hockey game? Any kind of other entertainment? Figure it out on an hourly basis and determine what is best for you Not Disney World? Fine - there are other places.

But please stop complaining about Disney World raising prices. EVERYONE is raising prices! My grocery bill is higher, my gas bill is higher, my insurance is higher and my company, who has not raised prices in the past two years is raising prices. Don't blame Disney World. The economy sucks right now.

Fingers crossed that this means 2012 packages are coming out sooner. I don't think I can wait til August.

YOu're exactly right the economy does "suck", that's why in my opinion Disney should hold off on raising ticket prices. Between the gouging of holiday sur-charges during the busy times of year for restaurants, the rise of ticket prices, restaurants, parking, strollers by some double digits they will soon OUT PRICE THEMSELVES, in my opinion. Maybe they'll just have the UK visitors as guests 6 years from now since their currency far outweighs the USA's. All this and cutting back on the DDP, decorations throughout the parks and the various "Mickey Parties", I thinkk it's a very sad time!

Here are the ticket price increases from the Orlando Sentinel:

•1-day: $82 to $85 (+3.7 percent)

•2-day: $162 to $168 (+3.7 percent)

•3-day: $224 to $232 (+3.6 percent)

•4-day: $232 to $243 (+4.7 percent)

•5-day: $237 to $251 (+5.9 percent)

•6-day: $242 to $259 (+7 percent)

•7-day: $247 to $267 (+8.1 percent)

•10-day: $262 to $291 (+11.1 percent)

I'm surprised about the amount of increase for the longer stays.

We usually aren't sure if we will make it to a park on both our arrival day and our departure day, but we usually buy enough days to cover both -- and then if we don't use them (which is sometimes the case), we've only lost a few bucks.

But we won't be doing it that way any more. Will now buy only the minimum days we are sure of, and then will add extra days when (if) we need them.

They really must need more money.
Just like us, they're getting hit with higher fuel and energy costs. I'm hoping things will start turning around in late 2012 or so -- just before the "end of the world."

At least you received a raise, my DH and I both were furloughed which decreased our pay 3%.

I think CF was being facetious. His $.25 per hour raise probably won't make up the difference in his rising health insurance premiums.

What's the best way to to counteract the ticket increase? Buy Disney stock.

But wait until it's back down in the $20 - $25 range...

When I bought a park hopper for my son in 2006, I wasn't sure if we'd go to a park for 7 or 8 days. I bought the 8-day hopper because it was only $1 + tax more than the 7-day. Now that additional days cost $8 + tax - you are right to take a wait and see approach.

Me too. Mainly b/c in most Disney Marketing materials in the past several years they have touted how inexpensive adding days on to your trip is and how everyone should take advantage of it.

I figure it this way, the longer people stay on property the more money they are spending. Why get rid of that enticement?

It's not really your place to police what people can and can post. The purpose of these boards is so that people who share the love of Disney can come here and share their thoughts and experiences. If these types of threads bother you, just skip over them. ;)

My best "investment" has been to buy a discounted ticket from Undercover Tourist just before the price increase, hold it until my next WDW vacation, then use it to upgrade to an annual pass. By using it at the turnstile before upgrading it, I get the current gate price applied to the cost of the more expensive ticket - thus saving me some money. The stock market has performed miserably in recent years, but the price of Disney tickets is almost guaranteed to rise! I am in effect "buying low and selling high"! :lmao:

Hi! I also agree with your other post about Disney being approximately the same cost as a European vacation! We're both on the same page!:)

Disney will soon outprice themselves, I'm sure. With the economy the way it is and people are out of jobs the average person really can not afford a 10 day trip staying at Disney. It's really a sad time. Fortunately, we have a second home in Orlando and have annual passes.

How much money can you actually save by using UT? I have looked in the past and thought the discount was very small. I understand the price includes tax - so that is some savings. Will they mail the ticketsto your house? We are a family of 5 going for 7 days in Aug. Should I buy them today?

TIA

Go to their web site and check the prices: www.undercovertourist.com. Then compare those prices to what the prices will be tomorrow, after including 6.5% FL sales tax: http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/magic-your-way-facts-on-walt-disney-world-prices/ Yes, Undercover Tourist's prices include free shipping to your home.

We are a family group of 4 going for 6 days next March, and I just bought our tickets from Undercover Tourist.

Using the Mousesavers newsletter link, I figure that we just saved $132.00.

Yes, Undercover Tourist will mail the tickets to your house (if in the US).

I agree, to an extent. It is one thing to say "the economy stinks and I think people should stop complaining about Disney" and telling people they need to quit. It is all in the delivery.

Thanks for such a quick reply to my UT question. It would save us $50 total UT today compared to WDW today. My next silly question ,forgive me, what do the tickets look like? We get kind of attached to our hard credit card type tickets and the characters on them.

Thanks again - you guys are awesome!

They have characters on them, but they aren't hard credit card type like a room key/Key to the World card. They are softer and bendable. (They're made out of some material which hopefully someone will be along soon to identify -- I can't remember what it's called.)

But the room key/Key to the World cards don't have characters on them.

So I guess I'm not sure just what ticket type you have been used to. :confused3
