So just why is Disney raising ticket prices so early

Thanks for such a quick reply to my UT question. It would save us $50 total UT today compared to WDW today. My next silly question ,forgive me, what do the tickets look like? We get kind of attached to our hard credit card type tickets and the characters on them.

Thanks again - you guys are awesome!

If UT would save you $50 today over WDW's prices, then you would save even more than if you waited until August to buy your tickets.

The tickets from Undercover Tourist are paper - just like the ones you get at WDW.

They have characters on them, but they aren't hard credit card type like a room key/Key to the World card. They are softer and bendable. (They're made out of some material which hopefully someone will be along soon to identify -- I can't remember what it's called.)

But the room key/Key to the World cards don't have characters on them.

So I guess I'm not sure just what ticket type you have been used to. :confused3

Tyvek?

**The boards are a little goofy again with the time stamps!

I know the tickets that you're talking about.

I was concerned the first time that I got one of the paper-type tickets because I was afraid that they wouldn't be sturdy enough. They're actually made out of some pretty hard-to-destruct material. There's even a youtube video somewhere of someone trying to tear it up. If it makes you feel any better, the APs are made out of the same material, I believe.

Plus, if I'm not mistaken, you can always have them added to your KTTW card.

We always ordered in advance through the WDW website and they were mailed to us at home. They were a credit card with a big colorful characters on them. Actually last year we bought them onsite because we had GAD vouchers and we still got that same type - usually we get 7 day passes. I know it sounds silly but it just might be worth it to me to not use UT and get the same kind of tickets - on the other hand $50 is lunch in the park. I should save every penny I can.

Okay, I am an idiot! My husband corrected me and made we realize that only once, years ago, did we have a ticket as I described. Last year we did get the strong paper type tickets. That is what I get for overthinking everything. Anyway I am off to order my tickets and save a total of $150 as compared to WDW prices in July -

Thanks Disboards and to all of you for helping me out!

I have to agree. By pushing out new prices now, they are trying to take advantage of those who will be going to the area this summer, but may only do a day or two at Disney. I actually think it is a smart business decision.
Is it? We will only have limited time this year and I was considering just 3 or 4 days at WDW. Now I'm considering none.

It's not that the price jump is so much but it is adding insult to injury when you price tickets with fewer days.

This is a public message board. Both those who complain about the price of Disney tickets and those who think people should stop complaining about rising ticket prices are free to express their opinions here.
Along with those who complain about people that complain about higher ticket prices. Hey, this could go on forever! ;)

I'm surprised about the amount of increase for the longer stays.

We usually aren't sure if we will make it to a park on both our arrival day and our departure day, but we usually buy enough days to cover both -- and then if we don't use them (which is sometimes the case), we've only lost a few bucks.

But we won't be doing it that way any more. Will now buy only the minimum days we are sure of, and then will add extra days when (if) we need them.

I am in the same boat, seems like they have left that alone and made it attractive enough to throw on an extra day or two that you may or may not use. That will not be the case any longer for us.

An average movie ticket costs about $10, right? For two hours of entertainment, if you are lucky. Now, the movie might be horrible but you don't know that going in. So $5/hour for that. Don't add in popcorn or candy or anything. $5/hour if you are lucky and you like that movie.

Disney World. $85 for a one day ticket where you can get at least 8 hours. So, $12.50/hour. And that's only if you do a one day pass. Most of us complaining are not buying those types of tickets.

How about a baseball game? A hockey game? Any kind of other entertainment? Figure it out on an hourly basis and determine what is best for you Not Disney World? Fine - there are other places.

But please stop complaining about Disney World raising prices. EVERYONE is raising prices! My grocery bill is higher, my gas bill is higher, my insurance is higher and my company, who has not raised prices in the past two years is raising prices. Don't blame Disney World. The economy sucks right now.

Bolding mine.

But that is the problem. Businesses should realize that and understand that they can't keep the same profit margin. In times of a poor economy, you shouldn't raise prices unnecessarily. You should expect a lower profit margin. Low profit margins can, in fact, up your bottom line. That is how Wal-Mart made it.

Do I think Disney is a good value for what you pay? Pretty much, yes. But there is still only so much disposable income to be spent on vacations. For a larger family, and with 4 kids hitting adult status already or soon (while still in ELEMENTARY school, not even old enough to babysit), we've hit our price point. We will still go to Disney, but now we're staying offsite. Which means we're eating meals offsite at least once a day, maybe twice. And if we're offsite anyhow, we'll be doing other non-Disney things. That also means us buying our souvenirs elsewhere. Instead of something at Disney almost daily, it will probably become one thing from everywhere.

In the end, Disney is going to make more off of us walking in the front door, but they will lose a huge chunk of our vacation dollars.

It's pretty much the same reason we don't go to the movies hardly at all anymore. For our family to see one movie, I can buy 4-5 Blue Rays (or rent over 50), and not have to deal with crowds. We still see it on a big screen (thank you media room) and still get good popcorn (and probably healthier). And not deal with dirt or rude people.

Fingers crossed that this means 2012 packages are coming out sooner. I don't think I can wait til August.

I haven't finished the thread, and probably should, but TAs do have the 2012 package prices.

And it looks like you might be able to book online soon. I was checking out the Disneyland site as we might be staying on property for a conference next June; last week there wasn't even an option to go out past January 1, today I checked and you can click through the 2012 calendar but get an error message when trying to go through to get a price on anything... Looks like they're loading things...

Had been debating whether or not to convert my ticket for our upcoming October Girls' trip to an AP that works at both WDW and DL for a possible three trips, but I'm not sure it would work out...

I bought mine today through the Mousesavers link. With 11 of us going in October, I was able to save quite a bit.

Yes, really. We are really just a small subset of people and make up only a small percentage of those who go to Disney. You also have to think about all those who head down to "Go to Disney!" and "Go to Universal!" who won't be staying on site and might only do one or two days. I do not personally have the numbers since I do not have access to them, but I doubt they went "LOL raise prices!" without some consideration as to profit/loss margins and the impact it would have.

Now, I don't go every year nor do I want to. I save up for a couple of years and do a big trip instead of multiple small trips. So, Disney has not priced me out yet.

Just bought 6 days from UT tonight. We havent decided exactly how long we will be there (still trying to convince dh to shorten the WDW trip a bit and add on the Dream). They way I figure it will be around $8 per person per day with the UT tickets regardless, so I will just add on days in florida and not over buy days. :thumbsup2

I was hoping they would wait till August like always since we would have things finalized by then! :headache:

Thats it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:lmao: Thats bad when they do start pricing out DVC members, never thought of that. You have your rooms already paid for,
but yet can't afford to go into the parks.

That is not a problem we just do a non-park trip. Or :scared1:go off site parks

I ordered mine today also, but I noticed I paid $10 more then I paid in march for the same tickets (getting for each of my sons & wives)...I think they might have already added the new price??

I phoned but haven't heard back form anyone and probally won't...that was the only reason I was ordering tonight...
