So....its going to rain

I am resigned to the fact that it is going to rain while I am at DL, and likely a lot on at least one day during my trip. Having not ever been to DL when it has rained a lot, what should I expect in terms of ride/restaurant closures. I would prefer it to be sunny and clear, but travel is all about rolling with the punches. Also, being from the desert SW, it will be a nice change to see water actually falling from the sky (that in itself could be a DL attraction here where I live!).

Any help on what to expect is appreciated!

We were shocked at how slippery the entire surfaces of the parks seemed to be, to walk on! Be careful out there.

Also, California Screamin' will have you screaming in pain, as thousands of angry raindrops come pelting you in the face, feeling like bee stings.

I like to bring my own small rain ponchos...love th DL ones because they are cute, but I like the cheaper thinner ones. I bring a bunch. The rain tends to come and go and the other ones bulky and I never know where to put them. Whereas the thin ones, i just dump, etc.

Yes, it can get very slippery in some spots. We were even wearing shoes with good traction and we were still sliding around a little bit. One place that i remember was really slippery was the store at the exit of small world because it has a tile floor.

Also, there are certain rides that always close when it rains. I know the teacups close and I believe Alice does too. Not sure about others.

THIS! Last time I went in the rain, right before Christmas, and found that there was NO line whatsoever for Screamin'. I was thrilled, so I walked right up, got on, and ended up leaving the ride with tears in my eyes and welts on my face. Now I know NOT to ride that thing in a rain storm:headache:!

Thirded! It was the most bizarre Screamin experience ever! I don't recommend it.

Okay, I don't like Coasters so I have never ridden CA Screamin', but I have never heard this before and it is GREAT information to share! What an interesting side-fact that is SOOOO great to know!

My rainy day tip: Find the "dry" places and attractions that you want and space them throughout your day. Ex: Animation Academy, Innoventions, Opera House, Tiki Room, etc....

You don't have much to worry about when it comes to closures. The parks do a pretty good job of keeping almost everything open. The only time rides or restaurants will close early is if there is severe weather (thunder storm, lightening, etc.) I have been to the park plenty of times in the rain, and the only rides that might close are one or two Fantasyland rides. The best part about going in the rain is the short lines. The most popular rides will have no more than a 10 minute wait, even on a weekend. The worst part is that you have to bring ponchos with you and you don't get to take the greatest family pictures.

Umm DLR in the rain is not too bad..but if the rain is hitting hard then screaming won't be so much fun. I did it in the rain, I was pelted in the face it didn't feel great.but other then that, most rides will have short wait time!

I can't believe the weather is going to be so crappy!! We are going to be there the same days as you Yukon. I'm still riding Screamin' though!!! I don't know when we'll have the opportunity to get back out that way again.

How windy does it have to get before they cancel the fireworks show?

Only two rides close: Alice in Wonderland and the Teacups. World of Color still runs. The Fireworks and Fantasmic still run in light rain.

That's it. Other than that, bring a poncho and enjoy a wonderfully, amazingly empty theme park where you will even get to stay on rides and ride them twice or thrice.

Yeah, I am with you. I plan to ride screamin. Maybe when it rains, they could "retheme" it to some other attraction, like Peltin' or Smackin', or something else. Again, since we will be without kids, we will still have a great time and not have pressure of having to make sure that we do everything and that it all goes perfectly for the kids. Still, would have been nice to have some good weather.

While I agree with all the previous posters, my son thought Screamin' in the rain was the best!! :confused3 Teenage boys....

I rode Millennium Force at Cedar Point in the rain....Screamin' should be a cake walk compared to that! I'm pretty sure Screamin' doesn't fly at 93 mph.

I think Carnation Cafe will close in the rain. Some of the Downtown Disney restaurants might have a little less capacity than usual since they won't seat people out in the rain. (Jazz Kitchen jumps to mind.) We have been to DL once when Fantasmic was canceled because of rain. It wasn't actually raining at the time but it rained too heavily too close to showtime, and although they worked and worked at it and even postponed the show, they couldn't get the stage dry enough to be safe for the performers. I think Teacups and Alice have been mentioned. Characters are harder to find in the rain but do pop up in some interesting places. We had a fun photo with Mickey and Minnie at the exit of Space Mountain once.

:rotfl2::rotfl2: This teenage boy didn't think it was the best! :rotfl:

Although my 5yo cousin loved it! It was his first time.

Thanks for posting this. I'm an AP holder and was thinking about going to DL on Friday and of course it's suppose to rain.

One of our favorite trips to DL was last January in the POURING rain. The parks were almost empty. We just wore our rainboots and ponchos and had our umbrellas. We were able to ride Toy Story Mania 3 times in a row with no line. We did spend time doing inside type things like Mr. Lincoln in DL and the Animation Studio at CA, but rode a lot of rides, including Splash Mt., no line... that's closed now for refurb. but it was really fun to just walk on everything.
