So is this obsessive compulsive or just weird?

I have a teddy bear I've had since I can remember. He's the Gund brand (so soft!!) and his name is Bear.:rotfl:

Anyways, I'm going on a trip soon (Disney of course) and whenever I go somewhere on a plane I bring him with on my carry-on bag and hold the bag! I can't fly without him, it gives me some sort of comfort.:rotfl:

Obviously, I'm the subject of a few jokes. :)

weird? ocd? or just plain crazy!

I don't think it's any of the above. It doesn't seem weird at all to me.

My daughter is 24. She has a bear named Emily. She's had since she was two years old. She got it from her grandmother. It's a small bear with bean bag type of legs. (only one leg has any beans left in it, and it's only got one eye now, poor thing ). In any case...she has taken this bear on every vacation she's ever gone on. Last month she went away with her boyfriend to Miami. The bear went. In her carry-on of course..;) we wouldn't want to loose Emily.
She sent me a pic of Emily enjoying a cocktail on the balcony. Okay the bear was hugging a bottle of rum :rotfl:
Don't worry about it, there are worse habits.

I don't think it's weird.

I had my baby blanket till it disentigrated...seriously.

I snuck it to college with me, and I had a friend visiting and he asked me if my room mates met blanky....so my secret was out and I brought the blanket out from under my pillow they didn't care.

I stopped sleeping with the blanket at 20 when I moved in with my boyfriend (now DH). But I kept it on the nightstand and would hold it if I was stressed or pacing while on the phone.

When I had DS I had horrible post partum depression and I found holding the blanket very soothing and actually did start sleeping with it under my pillow again....then one day it just disappeared, I think DH threw it away :rolleyes1 but he swears he didn't and for the sake of our marriage I'll believe him...

Gee now maybe I sound weird. I was just trying to say I can identify with you.

I've never had anything like that.... my DD does - she has "bang". Its a pink and white stripped 2x2 blanket that she can't sleep without. She had about 5 of them, but through the years (all 6 of them....) we have lost all but one. I'm hoping to lose the last one soon....

Not weird or OCD at all.

I have a plush stomach (yes... as in the organ) because I've had stomach issues (ulcers at the age of six) all my life. I had another endoscopy a little over a month ago and I was afraid of the needle in the IV... so I took my plush stomach with me and had it curled up in my arm from the second I got in , all through the procedure. All the nurses thought it was the cutest thing!

Here is a picture of my precious stomach plush.

Everyone kept asking where I got it, and the answer is iheartguts.com. They have plush organs of almost any organ you can think of. They make awesome get well presents.

Every time we go to Disney we take "Frankie" along. Before my DD's first trip, when she was 3 I asked if she'd like to bring along a "friend". She said she had already spoken to Frankie, and since he'd flown before and wasn't scared, she was taking him. Frankie is a 5-6 inch Frankenstein stuffed animal my grandmother gave her a few weeks prior for Halloween. What a picture that made. Lollipop in one hand, stuffed Frankenstein in the other. :rotfl2: When we went back when she was 8, I asked about Frankie and of course he was coming along. Frankie's been back multiple times. We're not going to Disney this year, but rather Turks & Caicos. DD is now 15 and I asked the other night if Frankie was coming along. I'm waiting for an answer. ;) Honestly, we've had great trips and smooth flights; I think Frankie is our good luck charm and I might pack him in my suitcase if she says no.

I don't think it is necessary any of them. I am 28, and although I don't travel with him, my baby bear, named beara :yay: lives on my bed, and is a great pillow on occasion. He also is a great snuggler when I need it.. He is falling apart in his old age and sadly may need to retire soon.

I have a teddy bear that my grandmother gave me when I was little to keep me company on road trips. His name is Mr Bear, and he's been with me EVERYWHERE. I can not go to sleep without him on the bed. So he travels with me, in my arms. On road trips, he's a great pillow to rest my arm on. He's a great pillow on the plane. He usually doesn't fit into my carry on, but no one has ever said anything to me.

One flight I took, I got an unaccompanied kid sitting next to me. Mr Bear was a great ice breaker, and her stuffed animal and mr bear became friends during that flight. I also had a ton of bubble gum that became a huge help in killing time through the flight.

I was in middle school when he made his way off the bed and onto another spot in the room. Then my grandfather died when I was in 8th grade, and Mr Bear made it back to the bed and he hasn't left that spot since. I'm 27 now.

If you bring the bear everywhere with you, like carry him around in your purse at all times & have anxiety attacks if he is not with you, that would be OCD.

Anxiety while flying, traveling is normal and bringing something to comfort you makes good sense.

I'll be 50 years old in June and I still sleep with a Winnie the Pooh every night. He goes on every vacation with us in my carry on. He has been with me in the hospital for the birth of both my children and numerous surgeries through the years. I've had him for probably 20 years at least and he's still in fine shape.
Nope, I don't think it's weird or OCD!!

Neither weird nor OCD. Lots of people carry some kind of "comforter" with them when they fly. I know I do. I carry a soft throw and my small Disney pillow--i can't go to sleep without it! But it's more of a habit than a compulsion.

Now if you feel compelled to take the bear because you believe that something terrble will happen without it, I'd be more concerned. It sounds like you just want a little comfort.
