So is Florida "sweet tea" what we'd call Nestea/iced tea up in Canada?

I have never eaten them, but it's chitterlings, not chitlins.

Both are correct but I don't think I have ever heard anyone call them that. Only chitlins.

And anyone I know adds the sugar while the tea is either boiling or steeping. No simple syrup. Seems like too much extra work.

Like a lot here though I has switched to unsweetened tea and use stevia.

I'm a California girl who now lives in Virginia. I didn't think I'd like grits until I tasted shrimp and grits. O. M. G. The butter, cheese and garlic with the grits and shrimp...mouth wateringly delicious! As for sweet tea - I HATE it. I love unsweetened brewed iced tea with lemon though. I drink a 24+ oz Tervis tumbler of it every single morning instead of coffee. My favorite brand is Luzianne...yummy!
Wait, what? You can get unsweetened tea in an instant form - the kind you just dissolve in cold water? That's non-existent here; the powders are all sweetened and flavoured. We vacation in the States every so often - I'll have to be sure to bring back some of this magical elixir.

The correct spelling is chitterlings. It's pronounced chit-lins. I remember when I first encountered them at the grocery store...in a big red bucket. So nasty.

Luzianne is tea bag tea. I use 3 family size tea bags with my Mrs. Tea machine to brew up a fresh pot every couple of days.

Lipton and a couple of other brands have come out with cold brew tea bags. You use cold tap water with the tea bag. I've tasted a Lipton peach tea cold brew that was pretty good - slightly peachy, but not sweet, still tasted like tea. You might like these new cold brew teas.

I stay away from all bottled teas because all of them taste sweet to me. I don't like sweet tea.

If you like the cold brew tea bags and can actually find them, the Bigelow ones are SO GOOD. The mint Green Tea ones are my favorite.

I just checked the cabinet... It's TWINNINGS cold brew... Not Bigelow if anyone else is interested.

Here, too. Everyone adds sugar while the tea is still hot.

No one I know uses a simple syrup.

One thing I never use for anything is stevia. To me, at least, Yuck.

Okay, I pulled out the menu from a nearby restaurant, and they spell it "chitlins". I have never actually eaten them. They advertise pig feet, chitlins, and whole fried catfish every day. We haven't actually eaten there, although I'm sure we could find something for everyone--it's a buffet, they have plenty of standard fare, as well. We use it as a threat to our younger two--eat your vegetables, or we're taking you to the pig feet place!

Back to the OP--yes, they do sell powdered, unsweetened tea. In grocery stores, it's either by the hot tea, or by the Kool-aid.

I either buy diet (fake sugar sweetened) tea, or I make hot, and add sweetener while it's hot. However, when I make lemonade, I take the time to make a simple syrup. Otherwise, the sugar doesn't dissolve right, and leaves the lemonade with a gritty taste.

We're Canadian and we like our hot tea. My daughter always orders "steeped tea" from Tim Horton's, i.e. hot tea already brewed with the bag removed. Not knowing any better, she ordered steeped tea at a McDonald's in Tennessee and was alarmed to receive sweet tea instead. She tried to communicate what she actually wanted and eventually had to settle for a cup of hot water and a tea bag, which is what she should have expected as a best case scenario in the first place. She had a similar struggle at her hotel in Atlanta the next day. The panicked texts she sent me were hilarious. I should have thought to warn her that tea preferences are regional.

Okay, about powdered tea.
I drink far less regular (black) tea.
There are factors of cheap black tea that are not as healthy.
I have a wonderful cup of green tea, every morning.
You guys MUST try the powdered, to quality, Matcha Green Tea from Teavana.
SO good.
It seems expensive, at first. But, that little tin of green powder goes a LONG way!!!

Yes you can.

I love iced tea, but unsweetened.

Here in MA, when it finally gets warm and sunny, we'll make "sun tea" by putting several tea bags in a large glass jar and leaving it out on the deck.

No, that's a part of my childhood. My great grandmother kept it because she didn't drive and couldn't get to the grocery store often to get fresh milk.

I had a conversation with several under 30's at work, they had never heard of powdered instant milk. My kids grew up with it as an emergency backup in case we ran out of fluid milk.

I actually bought some powdered milk a few days ago.
I am going to make my own pudding for some good fresh banana pudding with Nabisco Nilla Wafers.
SO GOOD!

I looked this up the other day, because I just didn't want the yellow fakey 'Jello' stuff.
