So if it isn't free dining...

and you've booked in anticipation of it are you likely to downgrade, cancel or take the percentage off offer (if offered)?

ETA - or stick with the reservation at rack rate? :)

I'd actually prefer a room discount. It works out better for my family in a deluxe resort than free dining.

However I refuse to book a Disney vacation this year without a discount already available. It hurts (alot!) but I won't do it.

Bolding mine

IMO this may be one of the reasons we are seeing less exciting discounts. Disney gives discounts to fill rooms not to give a deal. If bookings are at an acceptable level Disney has no reason to release a discount or even a wowee discount. I think people have gotten used to the idea that Disney is giving a specific discount at a specific time, therefore booked making it so that there is not as much reason to give out a discount to lure people in. We took the military offer room only. If on the off chance free dining does come out during my dates (I didn't get the PIN) I would have to run the numbers and see if it is worth paying rack rate to get the quick service. Also with the PIN that has been out we saw that to get regular dining one had to stay in Deluxe. Reading the Dis it seems that people are more than willing to pay rack rate AND pay the difference between qsdp and the regular. Don't think that Disney isn't taking note of that. I think in a way (and I am an avid discount watcher as well) we are doing ourselves in to spite ourselves with these discounts. Disney sees we are willing to take less and less discount wise and still get excited about it. Iger said earlier this year that discounts were going to be scaled way back. I think we are beginning to see the result of that.

We are going regardless. I got a pin that was good for 35% off a Mod so we booked because we are willing to pay that rate. We also added the DDP. If FD were to be offered even with QS at a Mod it would save me more money so sure I'd take it. Of course I'm hoping to save more money, who wouldn't. But if it doesn't happen, I'm happy with what I have. I can't imagine ever booking at a price I wasn't willing to pay.

I had to work with a few managers this time because of problems with a December booking (still isn't right yet) and I put out the question about changing when the new discounts/promotion came out. I also noted how we have done free dining. The response to me was, "Nothing should be taken for granted or expected anymore, it just isn't going to be the same", and the other one flat out said, "This is the year of if you want dining, you will have to pay for it". Now I just did get the free dining code for summer - until 8/13 and I am sure that no one really knows what lurks in the background, but I think at least these "manager" position are letting people down easy. I totally got the impression from my calls that the small room discounts are going to be offered, and then back to "some" people getting pins, no more mass pin mailings.

Then in the back of my mind I think, maybe it will be something really great so they are not talking about it. They definitely have a lot of people on edge though. We are paying for what we want, but that will not stop me from looking.
