So I went to Aldi

I LOVE Aldi...don't know how I would be able to stay on our grocery budget without it! We have a grocery budget of $100 a week, that is THREE meals a day for a family of 5. I pack breakfast and lunches every day for DH, myself, and three children. I start my grocery shopping at Aldi each week and finish up at Walmart what I cannot get at Aldi. We have a nice one that is kept clean and the employees know me by name. Cannot say enough good about it...

Yes, I agree! I was just telling my DH today that a family of 4 (or 5) could actually eat for a week very well on $100 per week. That is the only grocery I know of, even with coupons, I could do it. I do agree with a pp that the meats aren't the best, but they do carry some really good 92% FF ground turkey, which I use alot. I went today and spent $89.27 and got quiet a bit of "junk" due to Super Bowl being tomorrow. If anyone is interested this is what I purchased for $89:

3 lbs. ground turkey 2.49 per lb.
2 pkgs. little sausages (for S.B.) 2.29 per
2 pkgs. shredded sharp cheddar (3 cups each) 2.19 per
1 pkg. shredded mozzerella (4 cups) 2.79
1 loaf whole grain white bread 1.29
1 loaf raisin bread 1.99
1 pineapple 1.99
1 lb. strawberries 2.99 (winter treat!)
4 pears 1.89
2 bunches of fresh broccoli 1.79
1 box grape tomatoes .99
6 roma tomatoes 1.99
2 avocados .49 per
1 pkg. with 1 each green, red and yellow peppers 2.49
8 oz. roast beef deli meat 2.49
8 oz. roasted turkey deli meat 2.49
1 box original flavor round crackers 1.39
1 bag oyster crackers .99
1 can rotelle type tomatoes .49
2 8 oz. cans tomatoe sauce .25 each
2 cans black beans .55 each
2 cans red kidney beans .55 each
10 flour tortillas .99
1 bag salt and vinegar pototo chips 1.29 (very good!)
2 bags baked barbeque chips (great!) 1.99 each
1 bag chips with ridges 1.29
1 bag corn chips .99
200 coffee filters .99
1 gal. skim milk 2.89
1/2 gal. vanilla soy milk 2.39
1 carton low-fat sour cream .99
1 star bucks type coffee drink .99
1 box baked ravioli 2.29
1 jar spaghetti sauce 1.19
1 12 pk. double roll T.P. 4.69
1 dishwasher detergent 2.29
1 16 oz. frozen corn .65
1 box of 6 pkgs. of sausage biscuits 2.99
1 12 ct. box poptarts 1.79
1 frozen chimichanga .69
1 bag lettuce greens .99
1 lb. bag baby carrots .49
2 lbs. carrots .99

I think that's it, but you get the idea. It's alot for the money! The only thing I have ever bought there that I did not like was there shells and cheese box. It was yuck! But other than that I have been very happy with the quality. You have to watch the produce being out too long, but I find that to be the case at my Krogers and Walmart too, so no biggie.

I shop weekly at our Aldi's and here are some of our prices:

milk $0.99
eggs $0.49
Kettle chips $1.99
swiss rolls/brownies/"little debbie type items" $0.99
bag of 8-10 baseball size granny smith apples $1.49
apple juice juice pouches 10 in box $1.79
most condiments are $0.99

Dh went to Aldi yesterday, and this is what he paid for eggs and milk. We are in Texas too!

We've been iced in so baking more this last week, and breakfast.

My Bff just told me that Aldi has the best cake mix! She said her cake came out really moist! Next trip!

Christmas I purchased the baking chips, almond bark, candy canes and a tub of pretzel sticks and made chocolate covered pretzel sticks for our office party. They were a huge hit and I was very impressed with the quality of the chocolate.

There are a few things I was not happy with, but they gty and took them back no problem, so that has encouraged me to try new things.

The apples and oranges are good and most of the produce is the same brands I see in the grocery store. We shop Aldi and finish up across the street at Tom Thumb for meat and Coke and our name brand items we like.

Ours just opened, so it is clean well stocked and the lines are not long.

The Oatmeal is outstanding and for $1.89 for over 2 pounds a huge deal.

I read that the milk is actually Borden brand packaged for Aldi.
