So I went to Aldi

We have EASILY shaved $100 off our bi-weekly grocery budget by shopping Aldi first and then going to Walmart for things I can't get at Aldi or some of the things I prefer "name brand". The one thing I think ALWAYS figures out cheaper at Walmart is paper products (paper towels, toilet paper..). Aldi snack items (mini muffins, crackers, "Little Debbie" type snacks) are DEFINITELY cheaper and VERY yummy! ;)

Wow! I am in PA and had no idea that milk was so much cheaper in other states!!

I am surprised how much the prices vary at different Aldi.

I find I save the most at Aldi on the basic items; milk, eggs, sugar, cheese etc.

You also really have to find what your family will eat and not eat and often suggestions from others does not really seem to indicate what your family might like. For example DGS will not eat the gummies or the sharks:confused3

We like the can fruit but not veggies, pop-tarts we love and cereal is ok.The fresh pizza is pretty good and we love the bacon and sausage and they are much cheaper then other places.

I thought your milk at $3.39 was cheap! I have been paying between $3.89 and $4.49 lately. It's been in this range at all the stores I've shopped at in my area for well over a year. One of the brands of milk I have seen over $6/gallon. :scared1:

Milk at Wegman's is $2.10.. It used to be $2.05

You know I absolutely  Wegman's. BUT...in the winter I am just to lazy to cart my butt down there (about 20 minutes past my home) when I pass Acme on the way from work, and there's no way I'm going anywhere near there on a Saturday.

(i know, I know, I know..maybe I should)

Milk is 1.49 at the 2 Aldi locations in Lexington, KY.
Eggs have bounced around in price, but 1.29 was the last I saw.

I'm not the biggest Aldi fan since coupons and doubling make most items cheaper elsewhere, but the milk draws me in and I usually pick up a few other things while there.

Wow! Milk is $2.89 a gallon in Bowling Green, Ky. I can't believe it's that cheap in Lexington! Lucky you:thumbsup2 I went Tuesday night and eggs were even $1.19 a dozen. It is still cheaper than our groceries here though, so I bought. I always save money buying there. I love it that their granola bars are HFCS free now. I don't even think Kroger has switched that yet. I'm going to start shopping at Aldi again regularly. It always saves me money!

I love Wegmans as well. It's worth the effort for me

Like some of the other posters on here have stated our prices here in Texas are so much cheaper than other areas! Wow $4-6$ for milk is nuts!:scared1:
We are originally from NE Indiana and the prices there were also very close to the prices at Aldi's here. Aldi's is great for certain things. As you shop there more you will learn what you like and don't like from there:thumbsup2

We used to shop Aldi a quite a bit, but it seems like the price gaps between there and the Wal-Mart across the street has really closed in the last several months.. went shopping today and just skipped over Aldi..

I'm so jealous of those prices. $3.39 for skim milk and $1.49 usually for eggs. When the eggs go on sale for 99cents, I'll buy 6 dozen.

I've tried Aldi, but won't go back. Too many inconsistencies in quality, plus, the gas to get there (it's not close to anywhere I go). I split my shopping between the Wonder bakery outlet, Walmart and Price Chopper. I try to shop sales and use some coupons, but still spend WAY too much on food. Mostly, that's from overeating, not overpaying.

I have an Aldi's on the way home from work in albany, ny and get milk for $1.89, eggs $1.29, salad bags 99 cents, container of 10 biscuits 38 cents, bananas 39 cents a pound, block cheese 1.79, huge container of coffee for $4, bread 79 cents, ice cream $1.79 - these are the things I consistently get.

I love their produce prices at the Aldi near me. I get 4lbs of Navel oranges for $1.29 usually sometimes less- which is great since my dh coaches dd10's soccer team and I provide cut oranges for halftime at all the games. Butter and dairy are really good prices as are many of the different frozen items I've tried. The salsa is a great deal-I love to toss it and a couple of chicken breasts in the crockpot for work lunches. The humus is very good. I also really like the Winking Owl Merlot- great price for a decent, drinkable wine $2.99 and I like the Reisling too-but its more semi dry than sweet. Baking items are really good too, but I find that their snack items are not as good as l'il debbies & chips seem more salty than Lays. But crackers and the tortillas are good. I get better prices from matching coupons to Bogo sales for many staple items at my house and I'm not too keen on the meat (although the bacon wrapped filet was a great deal for my dog's bday steak-lol!). Each time I go I pick up something new to try. Its not out of my way-right next to walmart so I have no problem stopping there too. I usually only spend about $10-15 but will come a way with 2-3 bags of items-most of which is fresh produce.

Ok clearly something is going on with milk because I just got my local flyer for Shoprite and the "sale" milk of the week is at $3.59!!!! That's 60 cents more than the sale price of last week! What happened did the cows freeze? I am stocking up on milk today for next week.

I remember the first time I went to Aldi's after one of my friends kept raving about it several years ago; I walked out empty-handed. I didn't see any of the my favorite brands. But, thankfully, I gave it another try. Like others have said, you get used to what your family likes from there, and now I end up buying most of our grocery items there, except for meat and some produce. Probably our favorite thing from Aldis is their microwave popcorn.

At our Shop Rite you get a much better price if you buy 2 gallons. I forget what it is because it is just DH and I and we won't use all that milk before it goes bad.

I keep on giving our local Aldi's a try. It really would be the most convenient place for me to shop, but I am rarely happy with what I purchase there.

I will say that at Christmas time I purchased some of my baking supplies there. Vanilla extract especially, was much cheaper than other grocery stores.

I don't really like Aldi a lot. Ours have one cashier and LONG lines. It's hit or miss. A lot of the produce is not good and I only buy hormone free milk and I'm not sure the brand Aldi has here is, it is not cheaper than anywhere else around here either. I like the veggie chips $1.69 instead of $3.99 at our reg grocery. I get bagged spinach and salad there when I go which isn't often.

i just moved in dec. and before that i had an aldis around the corner. i went in with my mum once b/c we needed a few veggies for dinner and she didnt want to wait in a long line or have to drive a bit farther to the other food store. i thought when the cashier gave her the total she forgot something.:lmao: seriously i was like omg, we got all this stuff for just like $10! i used to stop in if i needed a lot of peppers (fajitas) or just celery or something random. the produce prices were great but selection could be limited. i never ate anything packaged b/c i have to eat GF, but when i was a kid my friends mom always bought these cookies there and i remember they were fantastic.

I forgot to mention the ambience...... I was with DH near checkout. There was a large man in line- bent over his cart. And yes he let a loud one rip. We were like a foot away from him. It was so loud and obvious that all I could muster was :rotfl2: DH now calls it the Fart Mart.
