I agree. It would be interesting to hear from folks with family business on what job they give to the relative who has to be given a job, but can't be trusted with anything important.
We had a family business that was just sold in August and my husband worked there for 14 which seemed like 1000 years. I think 1 year working with family is like 7 dog years years so he actually worked there for 98 years. Anyway, he won't watch It's a Wonderful Life because of Billy. He gets on his nerves. We had many "sacred cows" that he could fire but should have been.
That was my first thougth too. It was back in the Dana Carvey days. It was the "alternate ending" where they realize what happened to the money and they all storm over and take turns beating the stuffing out of old Potter. It really would have been better if Potter got his in the end.
Gee, and I thought I had a monopoly on that one. DW is one of those "why'd he do something stupid like that?" people, and the script is always the response.
Because he was too busy spending his money on building a home for his wife & family as well as keeping half the town in homes of their own. We saw what happened when George wasn't around to do those selfless things. Bedford Falls turned into a collection of gin joints, strip clubs and a place where people were cold and cruel to one another.
I think that last response would answer many questions...like...why would a bank be taking money to deposit in a bank? Is their vault broken? Ahh, yes...willing suspension of disbelief. Ya gotta love it!
No one but Clarence, Joseph, and Mr. Potter (and maybe his wheel-chair pusher) knew what happened to the money in the movie. It wasn't revealed to George or any other character.
