and it was the WORST meal i think i've ever had in my entire life.

a total waste of 2TS.

the plate presentation was beautiful though.

the pork i got was so salty. it was totally unedible.

DBG had the filet with mac and cheese. the filet he asked for mid rare. it came out bleeding. it was rare. like throw a steak on the grill and instantly flip it over wait 3 seconds and put it on a plate bleeding. the noodles on the mac and cheese were so over cooked... they were almost pasty. i could have donated them to the kindercare for glue.

i went on and on about how the filet and mac and cheese was supposed to be amazing.. i had DBF looking forward to it.

the corn chowder was good. i did enjoy that.

i didn't even want to think about asking them to correct our food. im a server and i always give the benefit of the doubt. but our server was practically non exsistant that i didn't even want to think about how long it would take to get our food fixed.

however, the brulee was AMAZING! and the portion was HUMUNGOUS! it was like a triple serving. is it supposed to be for two people? or was i just being a pig?

Oh no!!

We've got an ADR there for Dec. 20.....hope it's a good night there!!

we ate there last year i had chicken something,,,next day i barfed for 3 hours,,,was soaking wet from sweating,,wife was fine she had other stuff,,donnt think i will eat there anytime soon,,

So sorry you were disappointed!

THIS is exactly why I urge people to take others' reviews with a grain of salt. Everyone has SUCH different experiences, that to pass a restaurant up or strain to book a restaurant based on other people can bite ya in the toosh!

Again, sorry you didn't have a good experience.

That's too bad. I have been to Jiko so many times I can't count and have never had a bad meal.
I certainly would have sent the meals back immediatley. Even if the server wasn't being attentive, I would have flagged someone else down. How disappointing.

None of the resturant's are worth the 2 credits to me, the dinner shows are.

We didn't care for it either the one time we went. As soon as we walked in there was a very strong smell of fish, bad fish or seafood. And I looooove fish/seafood. Two of our party got the salad or field greens (sorry haven't looked at the menu in a while so forgot) and it was practically dry with no dressing. They asked for more and she just brought a tiny bit to share that just got lost in the salad. My chowder was pretty good. Two of us had the filet and while it was good it just wasn't all that great. I think the other two ordered chicken and they weren't impressed either.

I'm going with a coworker in October and made an ADR to try it again, but then changed my mind and just booked Boma. I might try it again some day but I'm not anxious to do it at this time.

I agree with byoung, I don't think any of the signatures are worth 2 TS. We'll be on the DP but will pay OOP for CG & Narcossee.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the new chef. Jiko was the best meal we ever had at Disney, but I just wonder if it's going to be the same with a new chef.

This was our experience too and we could not send the food back as we could never find our waiter. I am giving it another try in December as friends want to go there, but this time if the waiter disappears and something is wrong with my food, I will go to the front desk and ask for a manager.

I do know that the Disney reads these boards, hopefully the chef from Jiko sees this comment...I am sorry that you did not have a good meal there....I take all comments from posters with a grain of salt and always make my own decisions on a restaurant. People love the Flying Fish, we will never go back there as we had the worse experience there...

That's too bad. I have been to Jiko so many times I can't count and have never had a bad meal.

This is my reaction as well. I love Jiko and go there on every trip to WDW. I went in April and the meal was very good. I'm sorry you had a bad experience.

Sorry about your bad experience at Jiko. We have been going every year since it opened and have never had anything but excellent food & service. We will be eating there again in December so let's hope it is as good as always.

Sorry you had a bad experience. I like getting ideas from people about different places to eat, but I have found what some people love, I do not. It depends on what you like. Especially if you have high expectations, then the let down is even worse. We had that experience with Spoodles, I heard nothing but rave reviews on it, so I had to book it. We did not like the food at all. It is best to try it for yourself, you don't know how you will feel about it until you do. I have read reviews where the restuarant was disliked by many, have gone and loved it. It just depends. I am truly sorry you did not like it.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. We have eaten there several times and have never had a bad meal. I usually get the filet and it comes out perfect! I love the flat bread that comes with the kalamata olives. It is yummy.

I think they just changed chefs. I'm not sure but I think the chef from Le Cellier was moving to Jiko but I still don't get it since Le Cellier gets awesome reviews.

Sorry you had a bad time OP.

Maybe he needs some time to get acclimated to that type of cooking.

I would never say that a restaurant was bad after one bad meal there. If that were the case, I doubt we'd be eating at any of the Disney restaurants!! They all have off nights or the occasional bad meal. I thinks its important, in such a circumstance, to let management know so that they can be aware when it happens and put in a greater effort to ensure against it in the future.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience there. We have had 5 excellent meals there and only one case of lackluster service. It just goes to show you that any restaurant can have an off night.

so, i kinda feel bad expressing my view point of my bad experience at Jiko.

like i had said in my original post, me being a server, i always try to give the benefit of the doubt.

however, i believe that there are times, especially when there are dishes that are so popular that the restaurant serves perhaps hundreds of these dishes a night, that for the food to be that horrible, there definetly was something wrong here.

maybe it does have to do with there being a new chef. but the one from le cellier? but um, if DBF gets the filet... lol.

oh well, there is a saying that goes with being a server. one bad experience doesn't just turn off those who had that experience. because i can tell two people about my experience and then they can tell two people.... so its important everytime to give it your best.

not saying this is always the case. i have off nights.
we will not be eating at Jiko again however. while maybe in the future i would give it another chance, DBF is the type that remembers what happened and will be forever turned off.

As a server wouldn't you want your guests to be happy and return? Its too bad you didn't send the meals back and get them prepared correctly or exchanged. Sorry it didn't work out for you, but glad you had a Big Finish. :thumbsup2

We enjoyed Boma and are likely to return. I am considering treating my mother to Jiko using one of my credits. I'm sure I can find a CS option that will be just fine for me that meal.

None of the resturant's are worth the 2 credits to me, the dinner shows are.

We used 2TS at Narcoossee's in August and had the best meal and meal experience of our trip. Easily worth the 2TS credits and I didn't even order everything I was entitled to on the plan. I had an appetizer and surf and turf but didn't order a salad or dessert as I could have on the plan. That meal would have cost me more than 2 days DP fee OOP! So it was as if I got 2CS and 2 snacks for free. I ordered what I wanted to eat, not to max the plan, and still got enough value for 2TS. Even paying tip in 2008 would mean I just got one TS and snack for free.

For me not one of the dinner show menus suits my diet so they would not offer enough value. I don't eat hamburgers, ribs or chicken and wouldn't want to spend 2TS to have buckets of it passed under my nose. There are those who would just love that meal, but no way would I spend $45-60 for those meals, show or not. I've already paid for park tickets and there are plenty of great shows at the parks.

Disney offers variety and 2TS choices are part of that mix. I would encourage those on the DP to go to places you want, order what you want and make the most of your experience. I don't have a long "remember when" history as it relates to the dining plan, but based on my limited experience with the plan it really added a wonderful dimension to our vacation and our 2TS meal allowed us some special experiences and memories.
