So I Saw Chicago

If there was a h#^& on earth, it would include watching Moulan Rouge a dozen times! :jester: ;)

I've seen the movie four times so far and will place my pre-order for the DVD as soon as it's available. I love this movie. The music is great and the dancing is awesome.

I really never gave any thought to the underlying personas of the characters and didn't plan on having a love or hate relationship with them. It's only a movie after all. I left the theater humming the music and wanting to go dance up a storm.

Judging from someone who normally dispises musicals and hates Richard Gere even more, I will sheepishly admit that I really loved this movie! I've seen it 3 times and keep recommending it to others. I was dragged to it by my friend Amy who loves musicals. The very next day I dragged Chris. I bought the soundtrack a couple days later and lo and behold.... Devyn loved it! So I figured I'd take her to see it too. After the movie, she asked if we can buy it! So guess we will be purchasing the DVD too!

I finally saw Chicago last night and loved it. I'm a big dance and Bob Fosse fan so liking that aspect was a given for me. The performances by Renee and Catherine-Zeta surprized me. I never knew they could do song/dance numbers so well.

As for the story itself, it was interesting to me on many levels. The rise and fall of a "star", what some people will do to emulate another, how the innocent and voiceless can be punished unfairly, how people use one another and play games to get what they want, etc.

If it wins Best Picture, I won't be surprized.

I first saw the play in D.C. not long after the OJ Simpson trial ended and the actor playing the lawyer even looked quite a bit like Johnnie Cochran. I've always wondered if that was intentional.

Seeing it at that time might have been more interesting, since we'd just been put through months and months of the Dancing Itos and all the talk-show hosts telling bad jokes about a real murder, and observing the fifteen minutes of extreme fame that came to everyone who had even a peripheral part in OJ's trial, and seeing what they were willing to do to keep that fame.
