So I quit smoking...

Congratulations! I'm not a smoker, never was, never will be, but I have had people in my family smoke. Many died from lung cancer. My grandparents quit smoking about 10 years ago and it's one of the greatest things they ever did. It's so nice being in a smoke free environment. My grandfather now has asthma problems like I do, but I can't imagine how much worse they would be if he was still smoking.

Hi Andrea,
Congratulations! I'm glad you posted this because I quit just over 4 weeks ago myself and am going through the same thing. It was too easy this time. I tried to quit several times in the past and used the patch, Welbutrin, Smoke-Away, etc. Each time it was too hard so this time I thought I would do cold-turkey. It was so much easier once you got past the first two days. But now, it's as if I'm holding my breath just waiting for the hard part to come around. I'm afraid to relax and breathe.
There is so much freedom now! In the past, smoking is what kept me from going to DIS meets in the Chicago area. I always wanted to go but then wouldn't because I didn't want to be the disgusting outsider smoking.
Since you're in Chicago maybe you also heard the radio personality, Rick Zurich (sp?) quit cold turkey too. He said the same thing about it being too easy.
I'm thinking that all of these non-smoking aids make us more dependent on nicotine.
Best of luck to you!
Susan

Congrats to all who have quit smoking! I've never been a smoker, but it always startles me to have my friends in their mid-twenties with gravelly Joan Rivers voices and truly scary coughs just smoking away. You guys are doing right by yourselves and your families!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Congratulations to all who quit. If Brad Pitt can do it, so can you. Great job.

If my mom had quit, maybe she would have lived to see her grandchildren. There are 8 now.

Welcome to the Non-Smokers Club!:bounce: You have made the right decision and congratulations on sticking with it.:D

Congratulations to you and to all who have quit!!! That is great!!!!

If Brad Pitt can do it, so can you
You may not want to use this one anymore, I saw him on Oprah last week (funny as I never watch this normally... normally working ;)) but he said he has already started again

So proud of you Babar, I know it's hard, but it is soooo worth it all around! My dad quit cold turkey at a new year's eve party when he was 40 years old-he had smoked for 24 years-unfiltered Camels! Yuck!! It can be done, and I wish you good luck, and good health! Bravo to all of you who have quit!!!:bounce:

Good for you. I wish you good luck.

:cheer2:

But please don't be a mean ex-smoker...some of us haven't reached the time to quit stage.

I quit cold turkey in 1996. I seemed to cough more for a couple of months. I think I started realizing the benefits about 3 months after I quit.

Congratulations on quitting!

I don't really know you, but I admire your resolve and courage. This is a tough thing to do, but stick with it and you will be better off in the near future. If you feel the need to smoke again, let everyone know on the Board and we'll be there to back you up.

Way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations -- the hardest part is over now!!

It's been almost 15 years since I had my last cigarette. I never set out to quit -- I just decided to see how long I could go without one. It's been a long time now. :teeth:

The one benefit I noticed was when I smoked and got a cold, it always seemed to settle into my chest. It would hurt just to breath. Since I've quit, I have never had a cold like that again.

Good luck!
