After wanting one for a very long time, and then hearing the Podcast crew talk about them, I finally went and did it. My Sprint contract expired, I needed a new phone, so did my wife, so we headed on down to the ATT store, she picked up a Treo Centro, and me, an iPhone 3G 16GB. :goodvibes

All I can say is MAN I AM LOVING THIS THING!!!!!!!! It also now bring our home into 100% Apple\Mac compliance, as just about everything we own electronics wise is now made by Apple, LOL.

Back to the phone. :) I've actually had it a bit over a week now, and I simply cannot believe the usability of this thing. I had a Palm Treo 700 previously, and it looks and acts like something out of the 70's compared to this. I really feel as though I am carrying a portable computer around with me rather than just a phone. Loving it!

Quick question as I have been doing some research, but have found most are 50/50 on it. I need a new BT headset as well, and my old Jabra is dead. Been looking at the Apple brand one, but am not sure about the quality of it, or the fact that it does not have an ear hook. Anyone have any experience with it, or recommend something else for use with the iPhone? I've also been looking at the Jawbone but man, that's even pricier than the Apple unit!

Congratulations on the new iPhone. Welcome to the club!!

As far as the BT headphone goes, I stuck with the same one I had with my old phone. Its a Motorola 700 and works just fine.

Yeah, I was hoping I could use my old one, but it's needed replacement for quite a while now. (Was close to 5 years old and kind of been through the ringer).

I'm assuming from what I have read that any should work fine, but kind of liked the non invasive look of the Apple one. I just don't care for the price tag, and am a bit concerned about not having an ear hook after having one for so long.

Anywho, thanks for the response!

This is me green with envy-- :maleficen -- but I do have a birthday coming up next month on the 21st, and it better be in my rather large birthday stocking!!

Welcome to the iPhone Club... You will have so much fun with it,

I hate the Centro before the iPhone, your wife will switch soon. The Centro was one bad phone, I really hated it..

<----LOVES his iPhone

I tried the Jawbone.....REALLY hated it!

I have the Plantonics Voyager 520 and I love it. It works well and is comfortable.

It lists for $89.00 but I paid $59.00 in Best Buy.

I was told that the Apple headset fits just like the Apple Ear buds. If you can keep one of them in your ear comfortably, then the Apple might work. I felt I needed the ear loop to keep mine in place.

Music to my ears! As an Apple employee, I thank you :)

Actually, I had NOTHING to do with iPhone, except to capture data about its sales and activations. I had never used any phone but the cheap, get it for free kind. I was sure I was never going to do mail, use the internet, etc. But, since I was given a phone I had to try it. Took me 2 days to fall in love with it and wonder how I ever did without it.

I love the fact that I can get urgent mail wherever I am, if I want to. Comes in handy during weeks like this week when I am having to monitor updates from my team on a system that is having issues. Now I can lay in bed and check on things at 2 a.m. instead of trudging out to the computer room. Sad to be so happy about this, isn't it ?!?!

I also love the apps. I have found two great nutritional apps that really make it easy for me to look up carb values for my son (T1 Diabetes) when we are out. No more carrying around books...it is wonderful! You need it, most likely there is an app for it, amazing!

Hope you find lots more things to love about your iPhone.

Welcome to the iPhone world! I am an AT&T rep, so I see people fall in love on a daily basis :)

About the bluetooth, every single one of the Apple headsets I've sold have been returned. For the money, there are much better bluetooths. I would recommend a Motorola. The new MotoPure H15's are fabulous. Plantronics has a new model, the Discovery 925, that is getting some rave reviews from my coworkers. The Jawbone does okay too, but I think unless you drive a jeep wranglers with no windows or a convertible and need killer noise cancellation, I like the others better.

Hope the input helps, and enjoy the new phone

Make sure you update the software to 2.2, i did yesterday and today i could download the podcast straight to the phone from the phone's itunes app :)

Thanks for that! I've read very good, and very bad things about the Jawbone, and for the price, I would like to think it would even serve me coffee in the morning. :)

Someone else I know recommended the Plantronics. I'll have to check them out. I'm someone who CAN'T keep ear buds in to well, so an ear hook is probably the way I should go again. (Big head, small ears that can't seem to hold them in place, LOL).

Yep, I noticed the other day during sync it prompted to download\install 2.2. Went smoothly, and I understand has added some stability and functionality as well.

So far, the only thing I kind of wish they would add is the ability to sync notes, and edit them on the comp. Used to be able to do that with my Treo, and it was handy, as I use them for everything from grocery to gift lists.

Other than that, I'm loving this device even more today, than I did when I posted yesterday, hehe. :thumbsup2

:goodvibes I TRIED to talk her into one the day we went to the store for the phones. She loves what the iPhone can do, but doesn't care for the size, or the keyboard. She likes the Centro as it's very small, and does what she needs.

I figure I have a few weeks to hook her yet, as we are within the 30 day return\exchange window for ATT. ;) To be honest, I didn't care for the keyboard on the iPhone the first few days either. But after using it for maybe a week, it has become second nature, and I think I can even type faster on it than on my old Treo.

Oh, did I mention how much I love the ability to visit REAL web sites on the iPHone and actually have them load, and be useable, as opposed to the WAP sites I could only ever use on other phones? Awesome, simply awesome. :goodvibes

Would you mind sharing which apps these are....I've been looking for a good one.

Once you go MAC you never go back!

As an Apple store employee myself, I completely understand your excitement! It really is a small computer.

Did you get the Apple Care protection with the phone? I see the benefit of having it every day at the store.

Enjoy!

I'm getting a iphone for christmas and what to keep my number. But dropping verizon before my contract ends. So do i activate the iphone first, then cancel verizon?

Yes, picked up the Apple care. As you can't get the "insurance" for replacement on it, I figured it was a good idea!

DON'T cancel Verizon before you activate your iPhone if you want to transfer\port your old number!

If you want to keep\transfer your existing number, it must be active on your providers system for it to happen. Basically, when you get the new phone, ATT will handle the number transfer, and once that's done, it will automatically cancel your account with Verizon.

This is how it worked when going from Sprint to ATT, so I'm assuming it is the same for Verizon.

Buy the Iphone, let them know you want to transfer your number and they will do the rest. When your Iphone is active and working you can contact Verizon to cancel contract.

Hey Cyberbox, what exactly would be covered by the extended warranty? Before the year is up, I'd consider adding it for the 2nd year. But, what does it cover? Does it cover battery replacement (which I hear is $80 for OOP)?

I know it doesn't cover dropping or water damage, which are my two BIG concerns! I wish AT&T offered phone insurance.
