So....how was your summer?

Mine went by way too fast too!

May and June we took trips to Disney, staying at the Yacht Club the first time and CBR the second time. Both were just fantastic, dream come true trips! In July my new Golden Doodle puppy came home... and she has been a handful! Absolutely a wonderful dog, though, and I love her already. I spent a lot of time working, volunteering and catching up with friends who were home from university over the summer. The weather was pretty chilly so no beach trips or anything. :sad1:

Well, considering the temps are still in the 90's, summer isn't over yet!:) It has cooled down from the 100+ temps, though.

We spent June and most of July in Maine. At the end of May, I drove from Arizona to Maine. Younger daughter and I spent a few days cleaning the house, grocery shopping and getting the house ready for the rest of the family arriving later that week. It rained almost every day during June and the beginning of July. Thankfully, the sun managed to come out mid-July, and we spent a few wonderful days at the beach. We had a houseful of relatives and friends most of June and July, and it was chaotic, but lots of fun. It was like a train station, always someone coming or going. We spent time at the beach, shopping the outlets, cooking out, and visiting our favorite restaurants and places in Maine.

Toward the end of July, my husband and I drove back to Arizona and started packing up one house and moving into another. Mid-August, we moved our younger daughter into her new off-campus apartment, and helped move our older daughter and son-in-law into their new house. Yeah, no more moving for awhile. Tired of boxes and bins and disorder!

We celebrated two birthdays in August- younger daughter turned 19, and a week later, our grandson turned one!:cake:

We are all settling into our new places and just enjoying the rest of the summer. There are cook-outs and walks around the lake, and swimming at the pool. My husband and I are planning our itinerary for a trip to Las Vegas next month, and I'm spending time planning our trip to Disney World in February. We are taking our daughter, her husband, and our grandson. Our son and younger daughter will fly out and spend some time with us, also. I am SO excited, because it will be our grandson's first trip to Disney!:)

I really enjoyed reading the responses on this thread.

As for me and my family, this was the first summer I can remember that we didn't go away as a family for summer vacation.

My 17 y.o. son went to Orlando with some friends to vists another friend for 11 days, and went to Universal. My older son went on a road trip to WDW with his girlfriend and another couple for 2 weeks. My DH went for a week to an upstate NY resort to play league tennis. I stayed home with my puppy, but had a good summer, even with all the rain.

Hmm..

June - my surgery #5 this year was June 10, the same surgeon operated on ds19 on June 30, ds17 failed his driving test

July - tests, drs. visits and surgery #6 for me on July 10th

August - More drs. visits, starting physical therapy etc. Dh and ds17 went to california. It was combined with dh business trip.

Ds21 traveled the most, he went to Great Adventure NJ, Dorney Park in Penn. and the creed concert in Ct.

I am thankful to God to be alive and my cancer is in remission right now so that is the best part of the summer for me.

Summer? I can't believe it's over, it seems like it just started!

Ours was nothing too major. We left for WDW on May 22, immediately after the last bell rang on the last day of school. We had 8 great days with the mouse then stopped at Ameila Island for two days on our way home. It was beautiful out there!

We bought a pool pass when we got home, and I think the day after that is when it started raining. When it finally quit raining all the time, it was cool......temps in the 70's most of July!

We went on a day hiking trip in early August and had a great time! Planning to camp at the same place next year......

Now, school has started and it looks like I'll be looking for a new job soon.

Had DH's sister call us up in June asking if she could have our 3 boys for a week. Heck yeah!

DH booked a surprise cruise during that week, first time we have ever gone off by ourselves in 21 years!

And yes, I answered every child that said "Mom..." :rotfl2:

Lots and lots of outings and short trips:cool1: Had the weather cooperated even a little bit, I would say this summer was the best in memory but alas, we spent alot of time chasing the sun:sad2:

You asked, so here goes: Started our summer break at Hampton Beach for four days in the rain, stopping at Canobie Lake Park on the way home. It continued to rain the next 10 days of my vacation...

Short trip to Nantucket, loads of fun, great beach weather!

Went to several concerts ~ Paul McCartney was the best:banana: Britney Spears was good and a show at the CC Melody Tent that was awful:laughing:

Threw my parents a 50s inspired dinner party complete with drive-in movie showing a DVD of their 50 years together and a soda fountain/penny candy stand for 80 guests (lots of work, lots of fun).

Shuttled over to Monomoy Island for a day at the isolated beach, glad we went when we did, 5 great whites were spotted there a few days ago:scared1: Also spent a couple of days body surfing at a local beach with good surf for the kids...

Two weekend camping trips, good weather for both, food, friends and family, all good:)

Three trips to Provincetown, one with the tweens, one for shopping and dinner, and one girls weekend, fun fun:banana:

DD and I went to Newport, RI for four nights and stayed in a haunted B&B:scared1: Took a sunset cruise, rented scoot coups, went through the mansions, did a little of the cliff walk....

Took DD and a friend to the Barnstable County Fair for the first time in years. They loved the cotton candy, slushies, and carnie fun:rolleyes:, me not so much.

DD spent two weeks (the first week of July and this week now) with her Dad doing all the summer fun things that kids like to do: Water Country, gocarts, trampolines, movies.

Went to Boston for Wheel of Fortune taping one afternoon last week and then to the Patriots v. Giants preseason game ~ We WON:cheer2:

We did lots more but I'm still kicking myself for not doing our annual WDW trip this week! I did get DD a kitten two weeks ago, so I've been staying home with him trying to adjust to being a kitten grandma:laughing: He's loads of fun to watch but gets into everything and it's all I can do to keep him safe from himself:eek:

So, that's our summer in a nutshell, we were very busy all the time.

We had a busy, busy summer. The kids had basketball camps in June. We spent a week in DC end of June/early July. Did our annual 4th of July party with DH's family, went on our annual camping trip with friends from our old town, kids started marching band and have been going hard at that ever since mid-July. School starts on Tuesday so we are officially done with summer.

We did get in a lot of golf, so that is always good. Now the schedule gets even busier with school and activities.

Honestly, my summer was pretty bad. I didn't go away at all, and my grandma died, then I thought I was going to lose my job, then my dog died. But the fall is looking to be much better, so I'm just going to keep my mind focused on that, as I have a Disney trip to look foward too.

My summer had some of the best things happen and also some challenges.

We moved back home to family from S. Florida in June. That was great, however, DH works in Boston and only comes home Friday - Sunday so we spend the week apart as a family. It's very difficult. DS and I are staying with my parents while we house hunted and while it was great, it was also trying at times.

We had some financial set-backs but we are still doing fine so that's good.

We are pregnant with child #2 which is exciting.

We are in the process of buying our first house which is the most stressful experience I have had. We are still working through the financial part but all should be good.

DH got a GREAT NEW JOB that he starts shortly after our schedule close date. He is very exciting ... it's great for us as a family so that's exciting.

We didn't really do anything else ... spent most of our weekends house hunting and our weeks just trying to get by. Hopefully next summer will be better.

What a nice idea for a thread :)

We had a very nice summer, no big trips because we are doing Disney in Sept but we did manage:

Field Museum in Chicago for the Pirates exhibit
Shedd Aquarium in Chicago
Museum of Science and Industry for the Harry Potter exhibit

3 really great parties at our house.

Had my favorite SIL and her kids here for a week, great visit.

Our youngest did a week of camp each month of vacation. She loved it!

Local museum a few times, local Ren faire, movies, lots of swimming and hanging out in the pool, and lots of reading.

we picked cherries, blueberries and blackberries. And then baked lots of yumminess

Also went to Mackinaw for a week.

It was nice!

What summer? I think we went straight from spring to fall around here.

Us too -- barely used to pool & didn't go on our boat very much. Not a very nice summer. This week we'll only hit 60's -- time to close the pool this year!

DH and I bought property up north last fall, so we have thoroughly enjoyed spending as much time as possible up there over the summer. Family and friends joined us sometimes, and sometimes it was just the two of us. It's so beautiful, peaceful and quiet up there. I hate to think about autumn coming so fast, and putting an end to our mini-vacations. :(
