For no reason at all, other than for the hell of it??? Because it's a beautiful day, or you're feeling particularly lazy?

Right now it's in the 70's going into the 90's NO humidity and not a cloud in the sky. I made it to work, but man it's a toughy today :p

I'm a Mom of 4, with the 2 older ones out for summer vacation right now............I can NEVER play hookie from work!!!!!

I never call in sick just for the heck of it, but I'll often decide on Monday that I want to take Friday off and put in a leave slip.

When I was younger I called in sick all of the time, but then I married a man who has never, ever called in sick (in 25 years of working) and he guilted me into being honest. Jerk. ;)

I can't - the kids keep finding me! :)

At my last job I never called in sick. It lead to burn out after 8 years! I quit! ;)

Never. That said, I have taken two vacations this year already. ;)

Does coming in late and leaving early count?

With my company shutting down, we really only have to be here for when the stock market is open, and even that is iffy. I have just taken the day off many times and just called in to say "I'm working from home";)

Makes the few days I have left easy to deal with. :)

never. I'm a self-employed contractor. If I choose not to work, I don't get paid.

I think about it all the time, but I don't actually do it. I take enough sick time as it is for *really* being sick, I can't afford the sick time just because I don't want to go to work.

In 10 years of working, only once...and that was because I had no vacation time that year(I had to use my whopping 2 weeks for other purposes).
Ive known DH for 9 1/2 years and he has never called in...sick or not.

I did a few times before DH and DD came along and before I had much vacation/personal days. Now I'm working 3 days a week and one of those I telework so I'd feel too guilty being out w/o a good reason. Besides with DD in daycare I need to save unplanned absenses as sick days for her.

Every chance I get. I can come up with some pretty creative excuses.

summer not usually - will take sick time for real doctors apt with & w/out DS - and may add on an extra hr

Rest of the yr seems I cant work more than (3) five day wks w/out needing a mental health day

Never. At least, not yet. Of course, I've used up my 40 hours already this week and don't feel guilty about leaving at 2:30, though!

We're only allowed to call off 6 times within a one year period before we start getting reprimanded. When you reach the 9th time you are fired. Six times may seem like a lot, but EVERYTHING counts. I went off to have surgery for a work related injury and that counted as one. Going off to have a baby counts as one....everything. Right now I am at 4 I think and I don't have any drop off until October. No more calling off for me. What really sucks is we are working so short that most of the days people are putting in for vacation are being denied. All of us are so burned out it's not even funny.

I have NEVER in 20 years of working have I ever taken a "Mental Health" day. I have worked at my present company for 12 years and have only missed 2 days for sick time and that includes having 2 kids (maternity leave is not sick time). My kids and I never get sick and my DH is on his own if he gets sick.

I haven't called in, sick or not, since I started working professionally. Some days would be a total disaster if I did. Others would just make it really stressful for the other doctor and the nurses, and would probably upset a lot of clients.

Oh, wait. One time I actually got a lunch break, and my car wouldn't start when I was returning to work. My boss decided to just go in and see the rest of my patients for the day.

I call in sick about 2 days a year just to have fun, but I make up for it I always come in when im sick, dont want to waste my sick days when im sick
