Our trip is 12/18-12/28, but since most folks here stress the massive crowds....don't sugarcoat it...we plan on MK FOR THE EVE OF THE 18, all day 19, split MGM AND EPCOT on the 20 and then back to MK on the 21 or 22. I figure we can maneuver AK,MGM and Epcot fairly well during the remaining days...and will be locationally good to go at WL for the first 3 or 4 nights and then to the Dolphin for that prime locale! Do you think we stand a chance of getting on the rides at MK? We HAve gone during the July 4th week in '01 (did AK during the day of the 4th, fireworks @ MK) and did not feel like the crowds were that bad at all, tho we went expecting utter chaos. So maybe that's what we should do again?Expect massive utter chaos????

Although I have never been at that time, most of what I have read on these boards say the crowds don't start getting really bad until the 24th. We are going to be arriving on the 22nd and hope to get MK and Epoct done before the massive crowds arrive.

Plan on arriving early, using Fastpass, and you'll be ok. Make sure you check park hours, parks may open at 8am for everyone during Dec 24 to the 31.

Those are our days, and have been every trip. It's not a nightmare, believe me, or we wouldn't be spending this kind of money on the same time frame.

Arrive at park opening and be willing to plan ahead (PSs, etc) and you will be fine.

The only time it hit me, what others so often hear about -- the true insanity of wall to wall people -- happened only once to us, at MK on CHRISTMAS DAY at 10:30 in the morning. We'd already had Toontown to ourselves (riding my kids' fav: Goffy's Barnstormer something like six times with no wait) and came out to have breakfast at CRT. From the Carousel to the entrance to the restaurant was sardine city, because right there, where people break off into different directions, were four characters, with four long lines of people jamming up the works. That's it. The only time I can honestly say I experienced a madhouse.

And even then, we got a picture with Uncle Scrooge before we checked in at CRT!;)

Don't sweat it, go with the flow, and enjoy Christmas at Disney World!

DemonLlama - it was good to see your post. We have been wondering about the crowds during that time also. We will be at VWL from Dec 18-25 also.

Do you know anything about the crowds at Universal at this time? We have a couple days left of our passes that we want to use while we are there.

I went Dec 18-21, 1999 and the crowds were sooo nice! Walk-ons everywhere! People were just starting to check-in for Xmas, but you wouldn't know crowd-wise.

Two years before that ('97) I went 12/26-29 and it was horrendous. This was before fast pass so ride lines were well over an hour. We got to MK early and stayed all day. I was with a fun group, so we had a great time in lines.

Since you are going so early, do as much as you can in the beginning and taper off as you go. I've been on New Years and didn't even go into the parks. There's so much to do elsewhere...why fight crowds?
