is not dvr.. hmm our big screen is HD ready.. would i want to pay extra for this thru my cable?
thank you for your help

YES

THE PICTURE IS much much muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch CLEARER! Also, gives you DTS 5.1 sound. If you have speakers around your room...the background noises come from the back of the room..etc. Real cool!:thumbsup2

Mine only ended up costing about $10 extra per month, but I did have to purchase a new DVR and get a second dish.

Call you cable provider. They may be running some sort of special.

And yes, it is very worth it. :thumbsup2

YES!!! The picture is unbelievable! Totally worth it. We pay $10.00/month for HD.

I totally don't see a difference. My husband will flip from the HDTV channel to the regular channel yelling at me because I can't see the difference.

It's not worth the extra money to me. I'm not into that stuff, though.

For me it is a very very very BIG difference, so much so that more and more we're dropping shows that aren't broadcast in HD, because it is just that much more worthwhile watching shows that are.

You're not buy any chance wearing those cute little black glasses when you're watching TV are you? I'm just sayin'... ;)

Actually, I wear those glasses everywhere I go. I stole them from It's Tough To Be A Bug and I think I look cool in them.

I'm still waiting for 3-D vision though.

Yes, It is worth it. Our cable company provides HD at the same price as regular. Watching Planet Earth on Discovery HD is freaking amazing.

Totally worth it! Especially if you like to watch sports or nature shows. Unbelievable!

It's totally worth it IMO since so many TV shows are being filmed with the widesreeen ratio in mind. It's quickly becoming exactly like widescreen movies. If you watch the version that has been cut down to full screen you miss a geat deal of the picture.

In the beginning TV directors would center the action knowing most people would never see the content on the sides of the frame, but that is quickly changing.

The sound difference is amazing as well assuming you have a 5.1 or better sound system to get the full effect.

I agree-I'm doing the same thing. Once you start watching HD, you never want to go back to regular. The good news is that more and more channels are being broadcast in HD, the bad news is cable and satellite companies are in bidding wars to get exclusive rights to channels. Our cable company has exclusive HD rights with MSG and Fox Sports, so if I want to see local sports in HD I need cable. Directv has exclusive rights to NFL Sunday ticket and outside the market HD, so if I want that I have to have Directv.

Basic HD is included with the digitial package with my cable provider. We do pay around $7 per month for additional HD channels and then $10 per month for HD-DVR. HD is so much better than analog and digitial pictures as well as the sound.

Planet Earth is a nature show on the Discovery Channel. It is also shown on Discovery's HD Channel. It takes a look at all of the environments on the Planet and the Wildlife associated with it. It was filmed with HD in mind using new techniques. The scenes are amazing and breathtaking.

I'm pretty sure we have that channel. Maybe I'll check it out and my mind will be changed about HDTV. :)

I resisted for the longest time, but I must say, once you have it you'll never go back! SUCH a big difference. I even went out and got a HD DVD player (an added benefit of this machine is that it makes even your non-HD DVD's look so much better also). I love it!

I don't think it is worth paying extra for unless you watch alot of sports or nature shows. I guess it is pretty cool to see every blade of grass at Fenway rather than a green field. That's pretty much the difference.

Too funny I saw this thread! I just ordered our HD service less than an hour ago. We have satellite right now, and it was just way too pricey. Switching over to cable (so I can also pay the bundle price with my Internet!) and getting the HD DVR along with it. DH is like a kid in a candy store. It will be installed Friday! :cool1:
