So glad we didn't let Hurricane Wilma keep us from going!

Just back from a week at WDW. Were a little hesitant because we were due to arrive two days before Hurricane Wilma. So, so, so glad we went. We only lost about half a day to the storm (mostly 40 to 50 mph winds and rain on Monday morning; otherwise, no direct impact from the storm). They closed the parks on Monday morning, reopened Epcot and MK on Monday at 2:00.

The unexpected bonus: the storm cooled the weather off considerably, and we had gorgeous weather the rest of the week! Low to mid 70's and no humidity. (Compare that to the sweltering 85 degrees and horrible humidity on the day before the storm - yikes!)

We were there at the same time and I agree with you, the weather was wonderful. However, we did not get to go swimming and that was a bummer :0(

Same here. The MK was open until 12 Midnight and the crowds were non-existent most of the day. We had a blast. Monday evening was a bit cool; especially being stuck at the top of BTMRR at Midnight with DW and DD5, but we survived after an evacuation from the top of hill number 2.

I will trade Wilma-like weather (without the damage to the south) if it means I can have days like those after Wilma. :cool1:

Our last trip was in Aug. 2003. There was something about the heat radiating from the ground in the evening that made Sunday 10/23 worse than I remember Aug. 2003 being. The cool weather was very refreshing!

More people must have headed over to Epcot than I expected. While the crowds weren't bad, there was a short wait for most attractions (50 minutes for Soarin') mid-afternoon.

I'll stop posting after this ;)

The BoardWalk pool was more than warm -- almost hot. The kids had a great time in the pool. I thought they were kidding me at first, but sure enough, it had to be upper 80's maybe 90.

We just got back yesterday (boo-hoo), and we flew down last Sunday afternoon - pouring buckets. Monday was rainy and so windy. Driving over to the VWL was spooky - no one on the roads - just hubby and myself, and Disney Security trucks...very strange. We were on the 4th floor amongst the pine trees, and they were whipping around like crazy. People who were stranded because the airport was closed for the day were very well entertained by the great staff at the WL. Kids were dancing, coloring, playing games, crafts. Parents seemed to be having fun, in spite of missed flights, cancellations, etc. By nightime, everyone seemed to have headed out.

Weather the rest of the week was fabulous - sunny, and nice and cool for MNSSHP. Great week!!

I couldn't agree more! I'm glad I didn't change my plans because Wilma...only a half of day of rain lost because of the storm and gorgeous weather afterwards! The only thing we missed was not being able to go swimming, but we were so busy with everything else that we didn't really even miss that. Despite the crowds, it was a great week!

I seem to be having a problem posting a trip report :confused3

Yea, Im glad we went even with the hurricane. The weather was a bit cold at night. I ended up getting really sick on Wed. and left EPCOT early to go back and rest.
The next day I had to see a doctor it was so bad. The Doctor was near the AK about 3 miles from POP resort. They picked me up and even took me to Wallgreens for my presription.

I have strep throat.. badd, very bad... :sad1:

I am glad I did not cancel or postpone, since the trip turned out fine, even in spite of Wilma. And it would have cost me some $$$ to postpone to other dates. Though the rains associated with Wilma knocked out part of Saturday and Sunday evening, as well as much of Monday until early afternoon. The humidity before the hurricane was almost unbearable - felt so wet and sticky all the time! But after Wilma visited, then it was great - even cold, which was actually very pleasant! :teeth:

My only complaint was there were no unusual characters anywhere! MK and MGM only seemed to have Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale over and over each day. No face characters at MGM at all. I guess the hurricane/rain/humidity made far less characters out. Maybe just a bad character week, I guess! Worst character hunting trip I ever taken (except for MNSSHP which was good!).

Glad you all had a wonderful time inspite of Wilma.

I remember last year before Frances hit. We were in our 2 bedroom condo on a Friday morning. We were supposed to check into another condo the next day, but with the hurricane coming, they said they wouldn't let us check in. (We were able to switch the week to this next trip Dec. 3rd)

Anyway, so we had to leave Orlando that evening. (we were driving) We went to the park on Friday............felt like we had the park to ourselves, except for the parade and fireworks. It was great! One of our best days at MK.

It's horrible that that had to be followed by the Hurricane. :guilty: I guess that's the price you pay for being a semi-tropical state. Paradise has it's downers. :guilty:

We were at mnsshp on sunday night and although it rained much of the night, the late parade ran and the fire works were running. and the rain had most of the crowd going home early, and the candy was in abundance. awesome. we got to epcot right at 1 the next day and rode soarin three times without getting off. and then road test track twice right in a row. they made us get off. it was a great day actually.

I agree, the weather was amazing! It really helped carry off the theme of the Halloween party at MK, and the F & W Fest at Epcot was great!

We just got back too. The only negatives we experienced were "non Disney". We drove to Boggy Creek to do an airboat ride on Wednesday and the the water was REALLY high. We decided to go anyway, but knew we didn't have a chance to see any alligators (they all were avoiding the cool temp after the hurricane by sitting underwater)

Also, we drove to Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge (by Kennedy Space Center) and the bridge into the refuge from the south end was closed due to boats hitting it during the hurricane and causing structural damage.

But the cooler temps and uncrowded parks were great. By Friday it seemed like the crowds were really picking up (for Halloween weekend) so we were glad we were heading home on Saturday.

All in all, it was a great trip! :teeth:

Me too! We arrived the Fri. before and ended up extending our stay one day (is that a bad thing??? :confused3  ) since we were due to fly home that Mon. The only down side for us was the thunderstorms that drove us out of MNSSHP Sun. night. We hit a bunch of rides early and got our pic before the storm hit, but missed the parade and fireworks... it was too nasty. :sad2:
