I told DH when we were going & asked if he had any requests. He wanted to stay at CR in the tower, facing MK & go to the waterparks. I told him we needed to pay down cc so I could book the trip & when I would be booking the trip.

Otherwise, I have planned the entire trip: meals, park days. When we get there, DH will only want to know what time & where for meals, then I'll let him decide the rest of the schedule.

This is how we work every vacation. I do all the the work & he enjoys looking at the organized notebook to decide what he wants to do and when!

I talked to a CM and they did say that as long as it was 45 days prior to the reservation I could cancel and re-book in September with no fees or loss of deposits. I would also be eligible for any promotions that were availble during the new dates. They wouldn't be able to guarantee the resort though.

Right! So you see, you could book for this promo...and then possibly next month, we'll get the free dining/promo for aug/sept/oct.

You won't have to wait that long to get them ya know...just a thought!!

Book it! My DH is the same way! He thinks im nuts! I am going in december and I am already trying to figure out my ADRs so when the time comes I can pick out exactly what we want! He says to me the other day "hunny you plan whatever you want and I will just enjoy the trip when I get there!" I just basically ask him if there are any places he would def like to eat, other than that he is happy with all the prep I do! I just hate feeling like I am conrolling the vaca but he is so laid back he doesnt care where we stay and where we eat he just wants to have a good time with me! No complaints from this lady!!!!plus you can change it at anytime so if another deal comes out like pp have said unles it is within 45 days of your trip u wont incur any charges!

To OP:
I do all our planning and love it (I am a man). To get my wife interested I know better than to put a spreadsheet in front of her. Instead, I show her pictures, menus or videos. I email her pictures from time to time...prior to the 6 month timeframe. Each set of pictures is a simple choice...Poly or WL? Boma or Ohana... By the time we get to 6 months, she has helped plan it without having to sit down and look over the boring (financial) details.

If your household budget can spare the deposit, I would definitely persuade DH to let you book what you want now before the offer expires. Give DH the "drop dead" date that you would have to cancel or change by or lose the deposit. I'd explain that it doesn't lock you into anything you can't get out of, but it does allow you to make dining reservations, ensure where you want to stay during a busy time, etc. I'd give him the "worst case" budget with the current offer, then tell him you'll be trying to beat it in the meantime. Maybe you'll get a PIN for an even better deal, or they'll offer the free dining you want.

I used this very method to gently persuade DH that putting down a deposit on a family cruise a full year in advance was a good idea. I reminded him we need two cabins near each other for the kids (difficult to get good locations), and I told him we have until this August to get our whole deposit back. I gave him the "full price" and how it breaks down for quarterly "deposits" into our savings account to fund. I have been watch the price drops and have saved almost $600 in the last month as the cruise price has dropped, so now he's really happy!

P.S. I agree with the PPs that a detailed spreadsheet may overwhelm him and cause him to put off decisions. Give him your favorite/best/cheapest option. If he doesn't like it, figure out what date/resort/option he would change and work with that.
