Santa comes to my house early this year - later today, in fact!

And this time, Santa will look like the UPS driver, who will deliver my new personal ECV!

Still a TravelScoot - but a brand, shiny new one! I'm going to name him "Maximus", after the Palace Horse that befriends Rapunzel in "Tangled"!

Angus, my "old" TravelScoot (named for Princess Merida's faithful horse, Angus) was purchased used from CraigsList a bit less than a year ago; it was the "original" model that did not have reverse, so I had to "Fred Flinstone" every time I needed to back up! LOL I'm sure it was quite a sight! When my husband saw how much happier and independent I was, he decided to surprise me with the new version that has reverse, and different brakes.

At the same time, our (now oh-so-grown up 21 year old) daughter decided we needed to "break in" my new scooter with a trip to WDW! So, she booked another "Girly Special" (no boys allowed, this means you Daddy!) for the end of September, so we will catch the start of Food & Wine, AND Mickey's Not So Scary! Plus, for the first time since 1972, I will celebrate my birthday in the Magic Kingdom!

I am SO excited! I was - for the first time in my life - actually and really and truly speechless!

Then I started crying... LOL Happy tears, I promise!

So. I probably shouldn't be so excited about this scooter, right? After all - it is just a tool that allows me to do what I want to do, when I want to do it. Nothing more, really.

Except that in these last few months, what started off as a simple tool has become so much more. My spirits have lifted, and my depression has vanished. My independence has returned, and with it, the old me. I am happy again, because I know that I can go where I want, when I want.

Welcome Max. I can't wait for our adventures together to start!

Hooray for Max! What a sweet daughter to suggest a birthday trip. Happy planning! party:

I just got to have my birthday at disney and after waiting 15 years it was the best one I know you will have the time of your life as you do every time you go to disney

Do not underestimate the importance of mobility and independence. You have every right to celebrate! I hope your trip is fantastic; I think I see some Arribas Bros. tiaras in your future. :)

Your post made me want to cry! My precious daughter has cerebral palsy and is in a WC. I know how important being independent is to her and the ability to get around on her own. I am so happy that you have yours back. Truly wishing you a magical time at WDW on your birthday (and always)!:bday:
