So do we need a car if we are using ME & a grocery delivery service?

Hello,

I could use advice on whether we can get along okay without a car for our trip to the Beach Club Villas next month. Here is my plan:

Since we arrive into MCO at about 10pm, we were going to get our luggage and drag it to the Magical Express bus, just so we won't have to wait up to 3 hours to get our bags (or has that time improved?!).

Also, since we arrive so late, the only way to go shopping for food is to use a grocery service that delivers to the resort earlier in the day. I guess they will store our groceries until we arrive.

We may need more groceries during our stay. Do you think taking a taxi roundtrip to Goodings or Publix would cost a lot? I could probably get it done in one trip.

We move to Villas at Wilderness Lodge on the 5th day...we were going to leave all of our stuff with the bellman and have it delivered. Then, we'd take a bus to the VWL, or is there not a bus that goes there? Would we have to transfer somewhere? Is it doable, or should we have a car?

Alternatively, we could rent a car for a short period in the middle, or rent a car from the airport upon arrival. I have like 6 reservations for cars floating around out there in cyberspace...with pickups at MCO or the Dolphin, and dropoffs at the Dolphin or the Car Care Center.

One thing I know for SURE, we will be taking Magical Express back to MCO for our trip home. No schlepping bags for us that day!

Help, we leave in less than a month ! If I need to order food, I have to do it soon.

We are not renting a car...and I am looking forward to that!
We are using ME.
I intend to order some groceries, we are staying in a moderate and I dont want to cook anyway.. I get to be on vacation!

from what I have read it seems to be economical to order your groceries, other thought would to use a car company that will stop for groceries. But getting in so late, who wants to do that. For that matter who wants to stop for groceries at all if they can be there waiting for you?

Have a great vacation!

Good :thumbsup2 , I think I'll try it car-less...time to get my groceries ordered now!

Thanks again!

Hi. I realize you may have all ready ordered your groceries, but an alternate view on your situation. I love having a car at Disney. I hate the buses. I haven't used ME yet. But I have used Mears a few years ago. And the bus goes to different resorts to drop others off. You may be lucky since you are at a deluxe you may get dropped off earlier en route. We were 1 1/2 hours on the bus just driving around Disney property at 11 pm.

Not sure how much a taxi is. But figure the price of the taxi for the second grocery visit plus the cost of the original delivery and then deduct that off the cost of your rental car. For me I would probably just do a grocery run the 1st day in the early afternoon. After a visit to a park in the morning.

You would have to take a bus from BCV to a park or the ticket and transportation center to get to VWL. And even though I've never had a problem with bellservices transferring my bags. I prefer to just put them in my car when checking out of one hotel and after going to a park in the morning, go to my new hotel and check in with my bags. Obviously if you have anything that needs refrigeration bell services can help you better with that. Although they didn't put my groceries in the fridge one time and my yogurt was left at room temp.

I'm sure you can probably work your trip just fine without a car. But for me, I enjoy having a car and being in control of wherever I want to go.

Good luck and have fun!

I used ME on my last trip and LOVED IT! I am renting a car this trip (Staying at Saratoga Springs) and I wish I could just get on the ME at 8pm at night instead of schleping to the rental car. Why not just keep one of your car reservations and cancel at the last minute. If you are only renting the car to get groceries, cancel. If it want it for a few days, don't cancel. Keep the option open. I did get tired of using the bus at the end of my last trip because it was incovenient from getting from one resort to another. Otherwise, the buses were great.

DME is run very differently than Mears. There are limits to # of resorts served per bus, waiting time at airport before leaving for resorts, etc. Disney runs the show, so it's a MUCH better show.
