and her parents/"handlers" for this whole Vanity Fair fiasco. What was she thinking? What were they thinking? At best, it's a case of extremely poor judgment. What is the rationale for a 15-year-old posing this way under any circumstances? The "artsy" defense just doesn't cut it with me, sorry.

I am sure I could get flamed for this opinion, but I'm just so disappointed on many levels. With a 15 year old daughter of my own who has grown up idolizing Miley/Hannah like millions of others, it saddens me that Miley and her parents/handlers are going to choose this unfortunate route. (Could they at least wait until she's 18 for this kind of stuff?)

Is it just one lapse in judgment and I'm being far too quick to condemn? Perhaps. But again, I'm trying to think of a scenario where I would agree to have my 15-year old pose without a top--even in the name of "art." Surely Miley and company didn't need the money.

Here's hoping I'm way out of line and that I'm rushing to judgment that I shouldn't.

It's the usual Hollywood nonsense. They want a lot of noteriety which equals $$$$$$$$$$ It's as simple as that..:sad2:

I'm proud of Miley...She should do whatever she darned well pleases as long as HER parents are OK with it. Enough of this hero buildup, hero tear down crappola by people with no stake in her life. Live and learn Miley.

True enough--it's THEIR choice; but I stand by my opinion that it is a very POOR CHOICE for ANY 15 YEAR OLD--famous or not famous!

Please. . . .there are bathing suits that cover less. They knew exactly what they were doing.
The shoot probably took 3-4 days and I am sure she and her parents had final approval on any photo taken and published. I am sure they saw it before publishing occurred. It is just nother way to generate publicity and keep her in the media spotlight.
It is just like the politicians who apologize for indiscretions . . . .they only apologize because they got caught.
Vanessa Hodgens(?) did way worse and they kept her . . . . .

but I stand by my opinion that it is a very POOR CHOICE for ANY 15 YEAR OLD
art is subjective . . . . . . .

Beth Kseniak, a spokeswoman for both Vanity Fair magazine and Ms. Leibovitz said, “Miley’s parents and/or minders were on the set all day. Since the photo was taken digitally, they saw it on the shoot and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley.”

I think that girls have done much worse that AREN'T famous.
The only reason they're giving her attention is because she IS famous.
Vanessa Hudgens did much worse, along with plenty other Disney and Nickelodeon stars.
Give me a break, Miley looks beautiful in that picture, and no one has the right to put her down for it in my opinion.

Publicity is publicity, with all the good the bad and the ugly. :scared: While we may not always agree with it, or maybe we do, that catch is it gets attention and that is what they were looking for.

I think we're getting a little too rough on Miley. Lets face it, she's 15. Get mad at her father maybe, but she's just a kid.

I have no problem with Miley doing the photos. She's not Hannah Montana, and she's not Disney property. She can do whatever she and/or her family wants. Disney is pissed because the Hannah Montana craze has reached it's peak and will soon start to fade.

Can anyone remember the last Disney channel female craze and how that ended?

Hopefully Miley's future will be more promising.

Believe me, I would like to have any reason to let her off the hook on this one, but I just can't. I do agree the parents should exercise better judgment, but I think even at 15 Miley should have, too.

I know I'm in the minority these days, but apparently personal modesty is a value to very few people. And the unfortunate thing is, millions of young impressionable girls will see Miley this way and assume "if Miley does it, it's good for me, too." (And apparently lots of parents don't see much wrong with it either.) Add to this the other things that have surfaced on the Internet in recent months with Miley and the all too predictable story line is beginning to unfold--boy do I hope I'm wrong!

Is all of this an unfair burden on Miley? Perhaps. But remember, a large portion of what she and her father and Disney have marketed and profited quite handsomely from is her wholesome image.

But I guess the sign of the times is that stuff like this doesn't bother many people any more. So it appears this won't really be a big deal to many people--except a very, very small number of people... maybe just one or two other fathers of 15-year-old daughters...who aren't buying the whole "it's just art" thing.

Wanna be mad? Be mad at Disney.

There can be no doubt that Disney approved this ill-concieved marketing ploy. Disney exercises extremely tight control around their "stars" and since was not some 'personal photo' leaked on the internet.. this was an Annie Leibovitz photoshoot for Vanity Fair. Disney WAS involved at some level. No matter how "shocked" they are in other media outlets today.

There can be no doubt .. no doubt .. that many levels of publicists, marketing managers, PR people and Miley's agents and management team ... ALL thought this was a great idea.

Probably some crass ploy to allow her to 'grow up' a little bit in the public eye and let's face it - it succeeded in one respect - everyone is talking about her.

This was in the NYTIMES, on Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, TMZ, The Today Show, and probably even the View today.. oh and it's probably sold more issues of VF than anything else in the last 18 months... if it doesn't make the covers of People, US, the National Enquirer and whatever else by next week - *I* will be "shocked".

What was that .. the only bad press.. is no press?

Or maybe they wanted to let the media focus on a "legitimate" version of her showing off instead of the leaked photos

I agree. I saw the headline this morning on CNN "Sex enters 'Hannah Montana's' world" and was thrown off guard. The headline was VERY misleading. I thought that either Disney was going to do one of those "a very special" Hannah Montana episodes where they deal with a sex talk (which IMO would not be necessary) or new pics surfaced. Turns out it was just another opinion piece about the same story that had already been released. Let it go already. The media really sickens me with this stuff. There is no need to make a 15 year old look provacative, one. And two, the media does not need to keep adding to the flame. Her parents should have put the kabash on the whole thing before the pics were even taken.

As full disclosure, I'ver seen the complained of pics, and while I probably wouldn't let my daughter do the same (I certainly can't afford Annie Leibovitz:rotfl2: ), I am not Miley's parents. That's for them to decide. I've seen many more serious parenting issues in my time than having a portrait session with a world class photgrapher. Personally, I think it's pretty minor compared to the whole Brooke Shields/Pretty Baby stuff, oh so many years ago, but that's just me showing my age.

To everyone who feels this is exploitive, why blame Miley/her parents/handlers only? Do you not think Vanity Fair or Annie Leibovitz (who has been doing lots of work for Disney of late) are part of the exploitation? Seems they have the most to gain publicity wise in this scenario and no one has said boo about their respective roles. Why is that?

I have a daughter who is 4. Not 15. But you can bet I would be a little mad at my 15 year if she did this. But I would also realize that as a 15 year old, you can sometimes do dopey things. Just look at Vanessa Hudgens. She did a dumb thing, too. But the reality is they are just kids who are in a weird world (hollywood). Its no big deal

I think my issue with the fiasco is not the pictures (not what I'd want for my nieces, but it's her choice), but it's the failure to take responsibility. Since the parents were involved all along, they had to have agreed with it. However, now that there's public outcry against the pictures, we're hearing "it's not what we thought it would be or we would have said no" (paraphrased).

To me, that's back-pedaling. I would much prefer to see the parents and Miley say, 'hey, we made a mistake in doing this'.

Just my 2 cents...

It's not as big as people TRY to make it out to be. If you find that reliving you must find a backless dress porn, because that's all it shows.

Why should Miley or anyone in her position be held responceable for being a role model for everyone who watches her show? Normal 15 year olds are out having sex then get abortions or have it then leave the baby to die. This is a girl with her showing her back, HUGE difference. I doubt your daughter idolizes Hannah Montanna as much as you think she does, I know when I was 15 I liked people in Hollywood, but I knew that they were basically characters.

She is living life and making mistakes on the way. Did you not do the same? YOu never made a mistake as a teenager? I know I have, mine just weren't on TV. And dont say your's werent as bad because if you were in Hollywood they would blow up a picture of a zit on your face are say your a dirty person.

I am not a an of her's, but I do give her credit for trying to life a life as a normal teenager. I have friends that do worse in a bathing suit. She should have stood by what she did though, the pictures obviously weren't taken because she was sexy in it. They are artistic in a way because they spark discussion and are abstract with the coloring effects. It saddens me that some people cant see beond the headlines for what the situation truly is. Miley described it quite well in her interview.

Btw, the picture of her with her dad was an amazing picture of her and it connects the 2 pictures in an artcstic way.

The problem is not what's "showing" (or not showing); it's the seductiveness of the entire image. She's wrapped in a bedsheet with a sultry look on her face for cryin' out loud. While it may be a beautiful, artistic photo, it simply is not appropriate for a 15yo girl.
