..."MOMMEEEE COME 'EAR!!!"

I run up to her room like "What's wrong, what HAPPENED?!?!"

She is under her blanket shaking like a leaf. She pokes her little face out and says "the MONSTER."

I'm like "WHAT monster? What HAppened?"

She says "the ghost...he was standing by my toys...lookin' at me...but but he had no eyes.....they was all goin!"

.......kids says the darndest things (>insert nervous chuckle here<)....

Hey! Maybe it was Big Foot! I hear he's been spotted. :)

In all seriousness though, she could very well have seen something. That's frightening for a little one.

i would take this very seriously. i am a big believer in ghosts.

*hugs* I hate when my kids talk like that. Scares the crap out of me. Give her some icecream and try to make her forget about "the monster"

Could have been a dream, maybe shadows, maybe something there. I would downplay it with her, don't bring it up unless she does. (and hope it doesn't happen again).

visit here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1825653 there are a few posting here who have kids that have seen 'something'.

I believe in ghosts. but.......To make you feel better though...;) Maybe she had a bad dream or a waking nightmare...My brother used to get them when we were younger. They are between sleep and awake and the dream kinda "comes to life" Once he thought a train was coming in his room. For the record, my brother out grew them and grew up perfectly healthy. :)

My grandson had some problems like this. He was afraid of everything and wouldn't sleep in his room alone, either his dad or I had to stay with him all night.
I bought a small spray bottle and mixed some water with a tiny bit of food coloring just so he wouldn't think it was plain water, then I put in a drip (smaller than a drop) of perfume for smell. I let him spray his room every night before going to bed to chase away the monsters that might be in the room.
He has slept all night since then without a problem because he can smell the monster spray if he wakes up and knows it is still doing the job.

Awww, that's a good idea!

Her and I talked, joked and laughed about it a little, and she feels better now...but it's still in the back of my mind. My grandmother always told me that children and pets can see things that us adults don't.

Both of my kids had terrible nightmares at that age. I bought my DS a dreamcatcher when I was in Arizona, explained about the bad dreams getting stuck on the web and drying up in the morning, and the good dreams escaping through the hole. First night in the room for each of the kids...no more nightmares. Darnest thing.

my 3 yr old DD sees her grandpa, she talks to him all the time. It really freaks the bejeepers out of my mom. But I kinda find it comforting. I am sorry your DD got frightened. I like the idea of the spray bottle. HUGS to her.

Does she sleep in this room?

we did...!!

I used to see things in the closet. Really. I would stare and stare and stare until I thought I saw the door move ever so slightly. Never thought it was a monster, more likelyh a burgler or a murderer. Scared the crap out of myself every night right on through HS. I don't know why we never thought of using a soft nightlight:sad2:

find out where she seen that at, a 4 year old imagination wont come up with that on there own

Did she think it was a dream?

Another good option is to go out and buy her a new stuffed animal or special doll that is a "Guardian". Who will keep watch for her and protect her.

Its good to read this, and the other stories. My step-dad, Jim passed away about a month ago. The other day, DH and I were looking at something in our computer room, and all of a sudden we hear our 4-year-old daughter say "Hi Buppa Jim!" We look at each other, and then at her, and she is just staring at something in the kitchen. We asked her if she really saw him, and what he was wearing, and she said "a white hat, and white shirt." It was really creepy. We didn't have the greatest relationship with him, but he really loved her. I truly believe that he was here to check up on her.

OP...sorry your DD was scared! She'll be fine tonight, seems like kids don't give that kind of stuff a second thought once its over.

my 4 year old talks about talking to grandma great (who died in Feb) all the time.

Poor kid. He SOBBED when they closed the casket. I thought he'd still be too young to 'get it'. Not so. Luckily the 'talking to grandma great' makes him happy, not scared. So whether or not he imagines it or whatever, it's not disturbing him in any way. And we never see it. He'll come in and casually say something about it.

I'm not sure that agree with some of the suggestions here. I wouldn't play to her fears. While she may have been frightened, if there was something present, it doesn't mean it was a bad thing. I think I would just comfort her and ask her about it, listen to her, and not act like it's a big deal around her. Certainly don't treat it like the boogeyman or she might get more scared.

My DH says the same thing, that children see and hear things that we don't.
I agree with the "Monster Spray", works wonders. I use Frebreeze brand though.
