So Cosby....

Since the question was asked, apparently they have a parole board that decides issues of supervised release. Since it's 3 to 10 years, I guess there's a process for a hearing after the minimum sentence. I'm pretty sure that after the maximum sentence there's no choice but to release.

https://www.pbpp.pa.gov/Information/Documents/Publications/FACT SHEET Understanding Parole.pdf
When is an inmate granted parole?
Parole is not guaranteed. At the minimum sentence date, the offender is eligible for parole consideration. The Parole Board interviews offenders 3-4 months prior to this date. Although the parole process, including the interview, is begun prior to the minimum sentence date, an offender cannot be released on parole prior to this date.

Unfortunately, coming forward is an exhausting process and a threat to one's reputation and life. Even with everything we've addressed this past year with the #MeToo movement, we are currently watching two women being attacked for finally reporting their assaults. The speeches of some of Cosby's victims should really be required reading for those who refuse to get it.

Off topic but I do chuckle at the irony that the movement to shed light on sexual assault is "pound me too".

Carry on.

He's been sentenced to 3 to 10 years but I've no idea what that means in actual time served for PA.
I appreciate many of the good times he gave us as a nation but do not forget or condone his criminal acts; one doesn't wash the other for entertainers anymore than other members of society.
I hope his long-suffering wife who has paved her way in society without his help kicked his "stank butt" before he was carted off to jail and I hope the same is true for others in different fields who will never make it to jail.

Treating other humans as trash is just wrong.
Also boasting about it on tape and then defending other bullies and possible offenders when you should shut your ignorant narcissistic mouth and reflect on your self serving lifestyle.
BUT
you wont because it's allllll about you and less about others although ya do a mean job of mumbling platitudes.
Pfft.

His wife isn't suffering, she knew along what went on. she should be ashamed.

I don't feel sorry for Cosby... i feel sorry for his victims... they are the only ones who deserve any sympathy.

However, i do feel sorry for us.. the public who admired this man so much for his gift and kindness only to realize he was just a wolf in sheep clothing.

Very similar to how i felt when OJs true colors came to light.

Sorry in advance. I couldnt resist.

Wonder if he'll get a taste of his own medicine in prison :rolleyes1

I think the punishment that gets to him is the complete trashing of his image and the fact that he cannot live a luxurious lifestyle where he is above so many people. He has a reputation for being unbelievably nasty to people he came in contact with in day to day life. He came to Detroit several years ago as part of an effort to encourage parents to enroll their children in Detroit Public Schools and to be involved with their education. There was a lot of talk at the time from so many people who simply crossed paths with him that he was just viciously nasty to any and everyone simply for breathing in his vicinity and treated anyone who had to actually do anything with or for him like complete dirt.

I'd be surprised if he survives a year in prison - 3 years might as well be a life sentence for him.

The only celebrity that came out better after going to prison was Martha Stewart.

He wont be with general population anyway. But hes getting older so yeah hes not going to last long. Good riddens. Thats one thing prisoners dont tolerate is "pedophiles".

I imagine a man who lived a pretty posh lifestyle will be plenty punished in prison. I don't necessarily mean in the way I joked about above, but being locked up in general.

That's how I feel too. I don't feel pity for him. I do feel sorry for his victims.

But I also feel sorry for myself. A lot of good childhood memories revolve around him.
-- from when he did Picture Pages on Captain Kangaroo and my mom sent away for the Picture Pages so we could do them along with him.
-- when I was in elementary school, one of my teachers had a bunch of his comedy albums. If we had some work time in class and we had been good that day, she'd let us listen while we worked. Oh, how I loved "Chicken Heart" and "Noah's Ark."
-- I was in 6th grade when "The Cosby Show" debuted. My main teacher (same one that had the albums) didn't give us any homework so we could all watch it that night. And my family watched it every week for many years. It was Must See TV at our house.
-- when I was in high school we took a road trip out west. My mom bought a few "surprises" to pass the time in the car. One was a cassette of "Bill Cosby: Himself." At one point, my mom made us turn it off because my Dad was laughing so much she didn't think he could safely drive. ;-) We would often quote parts of it to each other for many, many years after that. "Eggs. Eggs are in chocolate cake. That's nutrition!"

So many good memories that he's a part of -- and now they all feel tainted. Because he was a creep then, and a creep now, but we just didn't know it.

Age, some level of vision impairment, continued ability to retain high powered lawyers and high profile would land him in a medical placement behind bars here. Cushy as far as incarceration goes. My guess is the creep will try to work everybody with a pitiful me act -- then be unable to restrain his nastiness when it comes to lashing out at the lesser beings there to "wait on him" until the staff gets accustomed to his true nature and simply treat him like everyone else.

I asked my husband who was a Deputy Sheriff for Philadelphia what the procedure will be. My husband worked courtrooms but mostly transported prisoners who were sentenced so he is familiar with Pennsylvania's procedure.

Cosby goes to an intake facility for at least 30 days and then to Camp Hill, which is another prison facility, for assessment and placement. Due to his age and health Cosby will in all likelihood be sent to SCI Laurel Highlands which is what my husband calls the geriatric prison. The facility houses older inmates with health issues. He may or may not be placed in protective custody or administrative segregation. The one allows slightly more freedom than the other but both would be for his protection. That is up to Cosby, his legal team and the prison administrators. Laurel Highland is on the opposite side of the state so his wife will be inconvenienced when she visits him, can't say that it bothers me a whole lot

He will do the minimum 3 years but as long as he behaves himself he'll be out in 3 years and on probation for the remainder of his sentence. My husband says he thinks he will probably do the minimum and his celebrity status will make him looked up to by the inmates. The C/O's will just see another inmate.

This has been big news in Philadelphia as he is from here and still lives in our suburbs. There was a report on the local news that he owes his legal team a lot of money but he can work to pay it off while in prison. He owes over $200,000 but he will earn between $.10 an hour to about $.45 an hour. He may need to work a lot of hours.

That doesn't make that much sense that it's being reported he'll owe them money. He's still got a net worth in the hundreds of millions of dollars. He may be on the hook for several civil cases, but I don't think his money is tied up in liens yet.

This. DH and I still catch ourselves quoting his old comedy routine. So sad for everyone, except him.

My mom's cousin worked on The Cosby Show when it was being produced. She had nothing but wonderful things to say about him at the time.

I grew up watching Fat Albert. I'll occasionally still mutter "Hey Hey Hey!" without thinking of the Cosby reference. But all my memories of Cosby seem tainted now - especially all those Jello pudding commercials.
