Ok had every intention of booking all seperate this trip in the hope of saving money. going just before Easter 2016 2 families consisting of 2 adults 2 children both ages 11 and 9 so my ideas where
costs per family
10 nights in a villa pool heating approx £1,000
flights gatwick approx £3,000
4 nights universal hotel RPR approx £800
car hire complicated need a car for the first 10 days each family then no car whilst staying at universal dont want to pay parking then 1 car to drive down to Port Canaveral to meet DCL ship then 1 car when we disembark to drive to airport approx £500
Total £5,300 per family
Realistic do you think?
Ok then got some quotes as getting cold feet Florida4less came in at £5,498 per family villa at Windsor Palms looks ok not as nice as some we have seen on line but had a bad experince years ago with a villa so a little nervous about security when booking alone. These are direct flights are we likely to save loads by flying indirect also flying with a child with Autism albeit not severe.
Sorry for all the questions really not sure what to do would love some ideas suggestions from fellow Disers

I paid £900 for 2 weeks in a villa with pool heating in December (3 bed, nothing spectacular, but we were happy with it , so the villa budget seems ok.

Look out for Quidco that do good discounts for Hertz and other car rentals.

EDIT: just noticed 2 kids per family, so 3 bed obviously not enough, but still if you are putting in 1k per family, that seems plenty.

Hey Jake - I understand your confusion and possible cold feet

But be encouraged the work in planning and costing everything out is well worth it.

Just do the maths - we've done similar trips both booking everything separately and booking as a package - sometimes one is better than the other. Just got to get the spreadsheets working for you - look for the deals and do the maths very carefully.

Oh, and in my case, ask a million questions on here.

This year's trip is the first time it has actually been cheaper to book the package - always been better booking separate before - just keep checking

Good luck

do you have you dcl costs on top of that quote ?
will it be in the easter school holidays ?

Hi Bex yes the DCL costs are on top I think what Im worried about is not going for the package which to be honest seems reasonable then going and doing it all myself then it being more expensive. Do people think my original budget/ideas seem fair? I think I just want fellow disers to say yes thats a good price book it or yes you will be able to do it cheaper than my original budget/ideas. Just thinking that if my original budget is about right then for an extra £200 per family its worth less hassle to go with the package. OMG now I'm waffling........please someone just tell me what to do :guilty::guilty:
Oh yes its the Saturday before the Easter Hols 19/03/16 until 2/04/16 thats when we join the cruise

All of our early trips were booked as packages as I didn't know any different. For the last ten years I've done everything DIY and have saved lots of cash although I always compare to a standard package. You do have to carefully weigh up exactly what you want and compare like for like and shop around especially for your cruise price.

Reading you plan a few things stick out

( A ) Why are you staying in a U. Hotel for 4 nights?

You have a villa for 10 nights .... and the price is fine so I ask why pack up and transport yourselves

a few miles down the road for 4 nights .

Stay the extra 4 days in your villa........ this leads to

( B ) Car Hire ..... Hire the car for the full time of your holiday including the cruise time.

Your Cost of parking in Port Canaveral ( CoCoa Beach ) is minimal

And there is Free Transport ( I think ) from Car park to ship & Back

Less Hassle All round For ALL Family Members

Going Indirect can work out cheaper but can be more stressful and sometimes there are long

stopover times .

Have you looked at flying from UK to Dublin & Aer Lingus direct to Orlando.

Dublin is an easy airport for transferring distances & then you will

clear Immigration & Customs Before you board the flight to Orlando ( or any other airport in USA )

so No Hassle when landing on USA soil. as you arrive as a domestic passenger.

..........................

Collect Hired car on site And HAND it back ( only ONCE ) after Cruise

Unpack ONCE at Villa then PACK for Cruise & Re Pack after Cruise .

Personally I would have the separate nights at the Universal hotel so you have front of line passes, early park entry and the ability to be from park to room in 10 minutes. That's to me would be far more relaxing than driving to and from a villa for four days. As for the price. You just have to do the math between a package and DIY and compare.

There is a method in my madness the week before Easter when the parks are not so mad busy we will do Disney then will do Universal with the fast passes when the parks are at there worse over the Easter weekend will shop and do water parks and have rest days
