I really hate winter anyway. But it's arrived especially early here. Usually in Virginia, in December the high's are in the 50's. In January, they shift to the 40's. Ack....it's been in the 40's here for days now, and it snowed last night. Sorry to be so grouchy, but I try to enjoy the slighter warmer days of December and get outdoors, before holing up for the winter!

LOL, we have been saying the same thing in FL...been chilly as of late...One day it was 80 degrees, then it rained, and that night it hit 40!!:scared1::cold:

This morning, it was a nice 60 something, then an hour later it rained, and now they calling for 30's!!:cold:

It's ok for December though...get me in the :santa:mood

bone-chillingly cold here in NE alabama too. highs today in the mid-upper 30's, down in the high teens to low 20s tonight. to top it off, the wind is absolutely HOWLING. DD is marching in the city's Christmas parade tomorrow night, and let's just say i'm NOT looking forward to going, even with DH's wool thermal underwear to keep me warm. i know these temperatures don't seem very cold to those who live up north, but this is january weather around here, not early december.

Man the wind does make it so cold!!! I feel for you. No wind here, just cold. I've never invested in snow boots, snow pants etc, because it usually doesn't stay really cold for long. Kind of the same way people in really Northern cities often don't have central a/c in the summer, then get dogged by a heat wave.

i know what you mean. we really don't have much in the way of heavy winter clothing either, because we generally don't need it, but DH's job requires some outside work, so (luckily for me) he's got some good, wool, thermal undies, and i'm going to borrow them tomorrow night, lol. still wishing i had a toboggan or some sort of hat. all we own is baseball caps, lol.

But you know here in the big VA. has crazy weather, the other day it was nice enough for me to wear shorts, then later that night got into the 40's. I had to drive in the mix last night to go to Hampton and back to Newport News.

And I will admit until this winter, we didn't have snow boots, shovel, icemelt, because we hardly ever get snow. of course now that we have them, we probably won't get snow again for a couple years-just the way i like it.

This is true, but unlike the summer, we can throw on a hodge podge of clothes and blankets and stay somewhat warm till its over...in the summer, you can only take off so much before it becomes a problem..:rotfl:

lol! I know it's different for us up in the cold northeast, but I can't help buy laugh! It was 32 here this morning and I thought it was a great day for a run lol. Talk to me when it gets below 10 degrees....then it will be cold haha

Agree. You just have to open a thread that is titled "so cold" just because you know it will be some southerner talking about how cold it is at 40-50 overnight while you look over at the thermometer and see 22 F at peak high temperature time.

My brother stationed in Texas one year called me and complained about how they went camping but had to cut short because it got too cold. When asked he said it got down to 45 and they had to pack up because it was cold. It was a high of -18 that day for us.

Another time I went to the airport to pick him up coming home on leave. He walked off the airplane and when he saw me, he said, "Oops..." I asked, what do you mean oops? He looked down at his sandles, no socks, shorts, and tank top, looked out the window at the 20+ inches of snow and said that was all he had to wear. I told him he's going to be cold.

and of course, when you open one of these threads, there will also be a northerner intimating that we southerners have no idea what cold really means. of course we know it's MUCH colder in the northern U.S., contrary to popular opinion, we're not stupid, but when it gets down in the teens here at night, especially in early december, that's really cold TO US. how i WISH it were going to be 40-50 degrees overnight tonight...it's going to be about 17 degrees F.

hence the haha and lol in my post...as well as the " I know it's different for us up in the cold northeast";)

And northerners cannot handle southern heat in the summer, even at a temperature that southerners think is comfortable.

It was 103-105 and supposedly recordbreaking heat in early June when we were in Disney World this past summer. You people are CRAZY!!! LOL

Though all I heard for 6 months or so as I researched Disneyworld here on the forum was the horrible humidity even starting in May, yet there was hardly any humidity compare to what it is like here in western PA in August. It was sure hot down there, but I noticed it humid in the early mornings (photo walks around the resort) but maybe it was the ridiculous heat at midday that caused to not feel the humidity any more.

Where can one move to that will only fluctuate between 65 in the winter and 80 in the summer? That's where I want to be! :goodvibes

Go thing but the kids nice heavy jacket that may wear twice this winter. It would not surprise me at all if they call school off to this week because of t he cold. Than it again it don't take much shut down the city.

That was record setting heat this summer. Here TN I think broke a record everyday because of the 100 degree temperatures. Trust I about this summer because the heat. Heat exhuation is not be play with. Learned that hard water. Water is not enough in that kind of heat. You need something to replace the salt you is losing. Powerade was drink be had. Learned that from my doctor.

First school closing from the cold and snow.

Eyewitness News has confirmed Grundy County schools will close Monday due to snow and cold temperatures.

Got check the news to see weather are not go work tomorrow or not.

so you guys are cold huh? :beach:

LOL!! They're not the only ones. It's not supposed to get above the freezing mark here in Mid-Michigan all week. I'm sure MN and WI are probably colder than us, though!

we saw snow flurries yesterday morning here in NE alabama! not enough to stick, just a few flurries, but still...snow is a rarity here, thank goodness. it was about 18 degrees last night, and is going to be just as cold tonight, while i'm standing outside for 3-4 hours at the city Christmas parade waiting to see DD in our HS band. NOT looking forward to that. temps expected to be in the 30s for highs all week until about thursday, when it should get in the high 40s. yippee! a heatwave!

Double cold fronts moving into FL for the next two weeks, temp was 32 this morning, lower in other parts of the state....high today supposed to be around 50's with wind..UGH..even colder tonight..frost warnings...for FL! IN DEC!..gonna be a rough winter here I think...but I am holding out, heat is STILL off!!
