So about this Hurricane - 10/7 Dream cancelled, 10/7 Magic Canadian, 10/8 now 10/9 Fantasy 6-night

this is starting to get interesting! Some tracks show it moving up the east coast very slowly. Even if Port Canaveral is spared, its going to effect people travelling in well into next week!

Arent there NYC cruises sailing south at the same time?

We are on a 4 night Dream on the 17th, hoping this thing is far gone by then.

We are on this one as well and have fingers crossed there is some good calm after this big storm.

Thinking so much about those sailing sooner this month though. I know you will have a wonderful time regardless and Disney will take great care of everyone. Enjoy your trip and try not to worry too much. On the way back from our Alaskan cruise 6 years ago (not DCL) we encountered some very rough weather and I needed to take something and nap part of the day. But after it was fine, and honestly kind of neat being on such a big ship in the middle of a storm at sea. Talk about waves! Sending good thoughts and pixie dust to anyone who might be worried... it will be OK! :)

We are on the Bahamian cruise that leaves Friday from NYC. Looks like it will be an adventure! Who knows where we will go!

140 mph winds sustained with a slow moving storm will bring a lot of damage to the bahamas. Seas will be huge within 100 miles of the eye.

We are on the 3 night leaving this Friday. Looking at the current track, which I know can change, I honestly have no idea how the Dream is going to get back to port Friday morning and then be able to leave again that night. This is my 22nd Disney cruise, so I've experienced changes in ports/not being able to dock at CC/late sailaways, but what would DCL do if they are able to get the Dream back to port (which probably wouldn't even happen on time the way it looks) and then can't leave again that night? Certainly you can't have a "cruise" docked at the port? I wouldn't mind a 3 night "cruise to nowhere" but I want to be cruising. This hurricane just looks to be inching closer and closer to FL every update. Not sure what to expect, but we will make the most of it. That's the risk of cruising during hurricane season! :/

Just got off the phone with Shoreside Concirge to make a payment and told that the Dream today is going to Cozumel instead of the Bahamas and it may affect the one leaving out of NY.

It is possible that if the ship can't even leave Port Canaveral, the entire cruise may be cancelled. Probably the only situation where a refund may be offered.

Still too early to know what will go on in Florida by Thursday or Friday.

HMMM, I wonder if the Dream is able to port in Tampa? This is going to be an "interesting" week looks to be pretty stressful for lots of folks.

Yes it does. We normally take a cruise every year in September and are always worried about the impacts of hurricanes.

This is from DCL's website:

  • Tropical Weather Update
    October 3, 2016

Disney Cruise Line is monitoring the weather conditions and predicted path of Hurricane Matthew closely.

The October 3, 2016, Disney Dream sailing will now sail to the western Caribbean and feature a stop in Cozumel, Mexico. The revised itinerary is below:
    • October 3 – Port Canaveral
    • October 4 – Day at Sea
    • October 5 – Cozumel, Mexico
    • October 6 – Day at Sea
    • October 7 – Port Canaveral Florida
While it’s still too early to tell if any future itineraries will need to be adjusted due to Hurricane Matthew, we are always prepared to visit alternate ports or spend days at sea to ensure the safety and comfort of our Guests. We will continue to provide updates as they are available.
Sayhello

Given all this going on this week, I'm going to have to remember to watch the Dream sail off on the webcam today. It sort of has that air about it like you're watching the voyage of the damned sail out to sea.

We are on the 3 night this Fri as well. I spoke with Shoreside Concierge this morning and they had no additional info on the sailing. I agree that it is going to be difficult for the ship to get back into port on Fri.

I don't think that the Dream/Fantasy can make the turn coming up the bay into the channel in Tampa and I'm not sure about it fitting under the Skyway Bridge as well. Key West is a no and Miami/Fort Lauderdale will be dealing with high seas, too. It will be interesting to see what ends up happening.

I was thinking more like those folks may just have to get rerouted to Tampa or Miami to get off the ship on time. It will be the cruise on 10/7 that will be the tough one

Right now they're zooming in on the Majesty of the Seas at Port Canaveral ready to sail out. I can't help but think - all those poor people sailing right into a hurricane. And no offense to Royal Caribbean, but that ship looks like it would sink in a hurricane.

Looks there will be no cruise as they have declaired a state of emergency for the entire state of Florida and the excutive order was just signed
IALEAH, Fla. —Gov. Rick Scott on Monday visited the City of Hialeah Emergency Operations Center to meet with emergency management officials as the state prepares for Hurricane Matthew, a life-threatening Category 4 storm.

Scott signed Executive Order 16-230 declaring a state of emergency for every Florida county due to the severity and magnitude of Hurricane Matthew.

Scott said, "Hurricane Matthew is a life-threatening Category 4 hurricane and we must all take it seriously. If Hurricane Matthew directly impacts Florida, there could be massive destruction which we haven't seen since Hurricane Andrew devastated Miami-Dade County in 1992. That is why we cannot delay and must prepare for direct impact now. Today, I signed an Executive Order declaring a state of emergency in every Florida county to ensure we have resources for evacuations, sheltering and other logistical needs across our state. We are preparing for the worst, but hoping for the best and we will not take any chances to ensure our state is prepared.

No cruise? The Dream is sailing out into the ocean right at this moment.

This was just signed into effect so it would not effect those who are on board the boat now since they are in the water and this pertains to land.

I'm not being rude or aggressive (I promise!), but please don't say things like this. Many people come to the DIS for answers when they are worried as it's a very good source. The state of emergency is in relation to preparedness but upon reading multiple sources on this, I don't see anywhere that says that cruise ships are not allowed boarding within the state of FL. I did read that the Coast Guard is requesting ships get in and out very quickly. I could be wrong as this situation is changing very rapidly and you could be right, but I would suggest to please not say a cruise is cancelled until Disney has had the opportunity to formally communicate to its guests.
