Wouldn't that mean that they are trying to protect profits from the cruise?
Worrying about inbound passengers is what they should be worrying about. Not making people drive into the hurricane weather should NOT take this long
My flight and hotel cancelled too. Southwest sent me a rebooking link but it's only good for a 14 day travel window, is that the norm for a flight cancelled due to weather? It's almost impossible for me to change my work schedule.
If they don't cancel or offer cancellation they aren't really making people drive into the hurricane weather. It is up to the individual to decide if that risk is worth it and then take it up with their insurance company to recover the lost cost if Disney doesn't cancel and is able to sail.
Very interesting... I wonder if they also had been told Disney would be making a statement at 1 and went ahead with publishing that.
Do you really think there is ANY feasible way to salvage a 3-day cruise leaving from a port that will be closed for certain on the day the cruise leaves and is currently forecast to take a possible direct hit by a major hurricane that very day? Do people really believe that there is any way the dream is sailing this weekend? It's time to tell people the cruise is cancelled. I can't believe people are still defending DCL on that point.I think they are trying to figure out where they are even putting the ship right now. Let's say, hypothetically they are going to take it to Texas instead of Florida, then they could offer a refund or the option to do the cruise from Texas. I think they are just still trying to figure out the most basic question of where will the ship be Friday.
I don't see that about protecting profits, as they will offer a cancellation option no matter what. But some people have planned time off and may want an option to meet the ship wherever it is if possible.
And, like I said in my response, all those booked on the 10/7 cruise are almost certainly going to be offered the option to receive a refund. That may be the only option offered, but that Disney is still delaying makes me think they are trying to find another option as well.
Edited to add: they aren't making anyone drive into Hurricane weather. NO ONE should be heading to Florida right now, and they shouldn't need Disney to be telling them that. Patience...
The "weather update" link on the DCL website is stuck in a loop, it will not refresh, well at least for me. So either there is to much traffic, or perhaps it is getting updated.
Just an FYI...

Thanks! Just never had to deal with this before. At least we are lucky it's o my our vacation plans destroyed, not our homes. I am in Houston, hurricanes are no joke.FYI, you can just cancel with Southwest and just be issued a credit that is good for a year from your original booking date. That is if you don't want to travel within their 14 day period. The within 14 days thing allows you to change without any increase in fare

You can see the storm looping up the Florida coast, then of to sea and looping back to Miami for a second pass along the Florida coast.
That means the same storm twice within a few days.
This was my same thought. Canada is pretty shut down on Thanksgiving Day with the exception of gas stations, some chain restaurants and possibly a drug store. I wonder if the people of Sydney would choose to open their stores, activities if a cruise ship showed up unexpectedly, avoiding Matthew?Canadian Thanksgiving is that Monday so nothing will be open....I was just in Sydney on the WBTA 2 weeks ago and it is a very small town and we were there on a Sunday and not much open. On Thanksgiving there will be nothing open.
MJ
Thanks. I've never heard of this happening....and I hope for everyone's sake it doesn't happen this time either!!

Heading to FLA is one thing - I LIVE in the cone area of South Florida. I want to get OUT of Florida. I wish Disney would crap or get off the toilet. This waiting game is absolutely no good for ANYONE.
Hurricane Jeanne did the same thing in 2004.
And crossed in almost exactly the same spot as Charlie and Francis did in the same year (you could draw the X right over our house) TS Fay crossed the state four times in 2008, and closed PC for several days due to silting in the channel.Hurricane Jeanne did the same thing in 2004.
