So about this Hurricane - 10/7 Dream cancelled, 10/7 Magic Canadian, 10/8 now 10/9 Fantasy 6-night

I have to laugh a little at all the suggestions of bussing people to and fro. This is a CAT 4 storm people. You do not want to be in a bus. You know hurricanes spawn tornadoes right? It's not just rain here. We are talking major catastrophic winds, storm surge, and massive amounts of flooding. Nevermind the fact that the roads probably will be littered with debris. You do NOT go outside in this kind of storm. Disney is not going to bus people all over Florida for a cruise when it could result in loss of life. LOSS OF LIFE. Seriously.

This has nothing to do with being kind, and everything to do with people accepting personal responsibility for their actions.
Unfortunately the DIS supports people by wiping their behind and kissing them telling them everything will be ok and how sorry they are for them, when they are at fault.
Disney is a business and not a charity, and your inability to not look after your own interests and financial investments should not be rewarded with praise and a shoulder to cry on.let alone be accused of attacking someone.
get over yourself Aquadame and be reasonable.

Yes, we are friendly here. Well, we try to be. You can't go back in the past and MAKE someone get trip insurance so why rub it in their face? This frankly is not the place for that sort of behavior. We don't like it, and we certainly don't condone it. You seem to understand that this is that type of community.

As I explained when I warned you for your deleted post, you are more than welcome to your opinion. What is NOT acceptable is calling out specific posters. It is in our guidelines and has absolutely nothing to do my reason or lack thereof. As a mod, I am empowered and expected to make certain that we follow the rules. Here are the pertinent bits in this case:

9. MODERATORS
"The DIS has a wonderful group of Moderators who have volunteered to assist our visitors and monitor the boards. Part of their responsibilities are ensuring that our guidelines are followed which may require that a thread is edited, deleted, closed or moved. If these decisions impact you, we ask that you respect them. Should you have any questions, please direct them to admin@wdwinfo.com. Any discussion about a Moderating decision that takes place on the boards could result in an infraction."
Regarding problems not otherwise directly addressed:

13. INFRACTIONS
The DIS guidelines are an important part in keeping the site family friendly. While the majority of our visitors abide by our rules, there are times when problems develop. In order to handle these issues consistently and fairly, we have developed an infraction system.

As you can see, the infractions have different point values. The majority of offenses will result in a warning via private message accompanied by infraction points which will expire according to schedule. Providing that you do not accumulate more points during that time, no further action should be needed. The more serious violations will result in additional penalties or an immediate banning.

If you do incur an infraction, you will be notified. If you wish to question or appeal this decision, please keep in mind that your correspondence is subject to the same regulations. At any time you may contact the board administration at admin@wdwinfo.com.

There may be times where a situation develops that is not covered in our infraction system. For those cases we reserve the right to take whatever action is needed in order to ensure that our guidelines are followed.

As it says above, if you feel I did something in error, please send your concerns to admin@wdwinfo.com. Any further comment on this here will be deleted as this is the incorrect channel for your complaint.

*If* the Dream spends an extra day at sea and is able to return to Port Canaveral on Saturday, what is the possibility that the 3 Night 10/07 cruise (which we are supposed to be on) turns into a 2 Night 10/08 cruise? Since she needs to visit a foreign port before returning to PC again, are there even any ports that would meet that requirement (that won't be damaged) that are only a day away? With every update that is relatively unchanged, my suspicions that this cruise will be cancelled grow. We live near Tampa, so we don't have to worry about flying in to MCO, but I do hope that a decision is announced soon to help those who are coming from a distance make plans.

Just noticed the Dream is just north of Punta Frances, Cuba and heading west. The Fantasy is just east of George Town.

If a ship is unable to make a foreign port stop due to weather, the PVSA is waived.
No requirement to call at a foreign port

That's good news. So a 2 Night "Cruise to Nowhere" is a possibility? I'd be fine with that, hopefully with some form of partial refund or OBC. I know that cruises don't have to follow the itineraries (after 21 cruises, I've had my share of changed/missed ports), but certainly if you contract for a 3 night cruise they can't reduce it to a 2 night without some compensation?

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. —With forecasts indicating severe weather conditions related to Hurricane Matthew, Port Canaveral CEO John Murray today issued an evacuation order for landside operations. The order affects Jetty Park campers, marinas, and all Port businesses and tenants. The deadline to evacuate is noon Wednesday.

In addition to the land-side evacuation, the U.S. Coast Guard has given notice that the Canaveral harbor will close by tomorrow afternoon. Under the Captain of the Port order, no vessel traffic--including cruise and cargo ships, as well as recreational and commercial fishing boats --will be allowed in harbor until after the storm passes and the order is lifted.

"This is a serious storm and the protection of people and property is our primary concern," said Murray. "We expect high winds and storm surge throughout the port and have urged the Port community to prepare their facilities so business can resume as quickly as possible after the storm."

Port Canaveral has not shut down operations due to severe weather since the 2004 storms when the harbor was closed for 11 days to ship traffic.

This was my first thought. I'm glad someone else brought it up. People act like you can just drive to a different port in hurricane.... right not big deal. I would not put my family in that kind of danger. I've been on the road in Orlando during a bad thunderstorm and witnessed two accidents. The last thing you want to do in bad weather is get in a car. Like I said previously first responders have enough to deal with without idiots out on the road trying to get to a cruise.

Would they, perhaps, keep the 3 night the same, only a day later and make the 4 night on 10/10 become a 3 night leaving 10/11? Is there any precedent for it?

This is the most important sentence in the press release from Port Canaveral, in my opinion. If this storm does hug the coastline as it moves north, with the eye over water (maintaining power) with the winds battering the coast, it could be devastating in terms of damage to property. It's too early to tell, obviously, but it would be easy to envision a scenario in which PC remains closed for some time. I have to believe Castaway Cay will be shut down for quite a while as well, as significant damage there seems almost inevitable at this point. I hope I'm wrong on all counts, obviously, but fear both PC and CC could sustain very significant destruction if this storm maintains its energy.

The latest track shows it shifting farther west. I hope you all get answers in the morning.

I don't think anyone is thinking of busing people DURING the hurricane but the track of Matthew indicates that it will be up about Jacksonville by 8 PM on Friday and further north by Saturday. Depending on what damage there is to the coastline and roads, it could be completely possible to bus folks from Ft. Lauderdale to Orlando and from Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale on Saturday. The real key which none of us knows is what type and how much damage is suffered by the cities from Miami all the way up the coast.

This text was part of the 11:00 pm NHC discussion:
When a hurricane is forecast to take a track roughly parallel to a coastline, as Matthew is forecast to do from Florida through South Carolina, it becomes very difficult to estimate impacts this far in advance. For example, only a small deviation of the track to the left of the NHC forecast could bring the core of a major hurricane onshore, while a small deviation to the right could keep all of the hurricane-force winds offshore. It will likely take another day or so for the potential impacts of Matthew in the United States to clarify.

I'm watching every update, especially when they update the models.

I wonder where they're going to port the Fantasy & Dream to debark the passengers? Its looking like PC is going to take a bad hit. All the cars on the ground and probably 2nd level of the parking structure will be lost. The terminal won't be usable, I'm sure. We live about 30 minutes from Galveston. I could run over to the old Houston terminal tomorrow to see if they've started the demo there yet. It's literally right around the corner from us. I'm just wondering where else they can get the passengers off the ships if PC ends up closed for an extended period.

I was actually going to post about the Magic cruise leaving NY Friday. I live in NJ so I am exicited the magic is so close to home! All the focus has been on the Dream sailing this Friday but it will be interesting to see what itinerary changes are made if any to your cruise. I can't see DCL sailing the Magic down the coast into the hurricane. Talk about rough seas!! I hope all goes well with your cruise on the Magic and you enjoy where ever you may end up!

the magic might go north to canada...royal sent a ship north instead of south this week...

I'm watching every update, especially when they update the models.

note to self - always park on an upper floor at PC.....

Royal Carribean update from yesterday:
Hurricane Matthew Weather Update
October 4, 2016
6:00p.m. (EST)

Royal Caribbean International continues to closely monitor Hurricane Matthew. Due to the storm, PortMiami is planning to close to all marine traffic on Thursday and reopen on Friday. Because of this, Empress of the Seas next sailing will now depart on Friday, October 7, 2016. Boarding on Friday will take place as soon as we receive notification from PortMiami authorities. To compensate for the missed day, Royal Caribbean will provide each stateroom with an onboard credit in the amount of one day based on the cruise fare paid, which will be credited to guests' onboard accounts. As a gesture of goodwill, we will also be providing all sailing guests with a 25% future cruise credit. We encourage guests sailing on Empress of the Seas to monitor this website tomorrow for any additional updates.

If you have not done so already, we strongly suggest guests complete their online check-in as soon as possible, including the section requesting your preferred method of contact while traveling. You can access online check-in atwww.royalcaribbean.com/onlinecheckin.

Royal Caribbean International will continue to closely monitor weather conditions and will provide updates as soon as they become available.

I hope that they have learned from 2004 and have been extra cautious when they re-built everything so this time, damages would be less important.
