So about this Hurricane - 10/7 Dream cancelled, 10/7 Magic Canadian, 10/8 now 10/9 Fantasy 6-night

I know you just really want to complain but seriously Delta is allowing people to change their travel dates without fees not cancel, most hotels allow you to cancel within 24 hours for whatever reason, you just don't have the same contract agreement with Disney. None of the other cruise lines are letting people cancel except Carnival and then ONLY if their itinerary changes. If Disney cancels you get your money back, if they don't then you have to make the decision whether you're canceling per your contract and then without insurance you bear the costs. That's just how a contract works.

They may still cancel but harping over and over that you hate the contract you signed gets old.
Relax.

You're wrong.

Delta gave me the option of a change or 100% refund. I took the refund and already have the email receipt.

My Swan reservation required 48-hours cancellation, they allowed me to cancel today less than 24 hours.

I know you hate me, but your assumptions are factually incorrect.

Do you want to know what gets old on here? The condescending comments. If you don't like the complaining from someone who likely paid thousands for their vacation, and are frustrated at being in limbo and having NO IDEA what is going on, then skip over these posts.

Fair enough, and I do have empathy for these folks but people should at least spread accurate information and airlines are not allowing people to cancel yet (change to a date within the next week to 10 days yes, cancel no) and other cruise lines aren't either (carnivel only allows it if your itenary was changed).

Do you fly for Delta? Maybe that's why they gave you a deal others arent getting?

And just MAYBE your assumptions are wrong again!

I fly for SWA.

I bought tix full price on DL because I couldn't risk standby and the most convenient options.

I didn't even have to ask Delta for a refund. They offered it up. Waiving the change fee would have been fine with me and totally fair (yeah I agreed to that pesky contract of carriage).

Please keep the incorrect assumptions coming. Do you do this with every thread on this board?

I'm scheduled on the Oct 7th Dream. Concierge level. I live in Charleston. We're under mandatory evacuation here. Port Canaveral is under mandatory evacuation. Disney needs to stop playing games. The Dream isn't leaving Friday. It probably won't be back in port until Saturday. They need to call it a day and give us a (much needed) break.

i just posted this on DCL's facebook page (as in haven't they noticed that PC is being evacuated and why haven't they said anything about the friday sailing)..
they really do have their heads up their proverbials....

I know that folks are anxious and nerves are short, but this thread is an important source of information and personal attacks are just going to get the thread closed.

Please refrain from the attacks for the sake of everyone else who is relying on this thread.

IMO, while Disney has definitely dragged their *** on this as opposed to being on the front-end of the issue doing the right thing, this is a first-world problem.

I hope we all might agree on a prayer for the less fortunate TRUE victims of Matthew, that they be safe during this treacherous hurricane.

Be interesting if the hurricane dies down instead and speeds up and is out of the area by mid day friday. Probably not going to happen but that has happened before.

We are on the October 7th Disney Magic out of NYC and I am 99% sure that we will hit some rough weather on the way down South (wherever we may wind up is anybody's guess). I doubt we will get to Nassau or Castaway Cay. Many years ago when another hurricane hit CC the island was closed for a few weeks for repairs. Looks like it will get a direct hit tomorrow so not hopeful we will get there early next week.

As far as Jet Blue, my friend who is going on the cruise with us is from Orlando, flying to NY to take the Magic. She was due to fly on Thursday afternoon and just let me know she was able to change her flight to Wed afternoon with no fee (this morning when she checked they were not waiving fees yet) so at least she can get out of Florida before the storm hits there (if it does). I honestly would not care if we had 8 sea days but I know many would not be happy with that. We will wait and see.

MJ

I was actually going to post about the Magic cruise leaving NY Friday. I live in NJ so I am exicited the magic is so close to home! All the focus has been on the Dream sailing this Friday but it will be interesting to see what itinerary changes are made if any to your cruise. I can't see DCL sailing the Magic down the coast into the hurricane. Talk about rough seas!! I hope all goes well with your cruise on the Magic and you enjoy where ever you may end up!

Southwest:

Additionally, based on the forecasted weather conditions for Ft. Lauderdale (FLL), West Palm Beach (PBI), Orlando (MCO), Tampa (TPA), Ft. Myers (RSW), and Jacksonville (JAX) in Florida, and Charleston, South Carolina (CHS), our scheduled service on Tuesday-Saturday, October 4-October 8, may also be disrupted (flights may be delayed, diverted, and/or cancelled).

Customers who are holding reservations on the dates indicated above for these two destinations, and want to alter their travel plans may rebook in the original class of service or travel standby (within 14 days of their original date of travel between the original city-pairs and in accordance with our our accommodation procedures) without paying any additional charge.

Friend's son and his fiance work on the new Carnival ship. The fiance just posted this on Facebook:

Hurricane Update! We are cutting our current cruise short and dropping off all guests tomorrow at 6am in Port Canaveral, Florida. Then crew only will be setting sail for Key West Florida for evacuation until further notice. Text and message us via Telegram for more updates.

Naturally my friend is quite worried about her son's first hurricane.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing.

The Fantasy has left Cayman and is headed in the direction of Jamaica. I wonder where they plan to go after that. I assume Castaway Cay is still evacuated.

Was just texting a friend in CFL near WDW. Wal Mart shelves empty. He got the last case of a Powerade. 3 gas stations out of gas. The rush is on.

I'm not sure what's reasonable to expect to DCL to do until watches and warnings go up. A cruise ship isn't like an aircraft - it has more options in severe weather. Disney is operating from the standpoint of being wholly committed to getting a cruise out if at all possible. Looking at the current timing and current track, I suspect docking in Miami or Port Everglades isn't out of the question. While each new forecast puts Matthew closer to the Florida coast, timing and path can still change dramatically over the next day or two.

This is one of those times when you probably have to make a decision that is best for you and your family. I believe most trip insurance policies make provision for when a hurricane watch or warning is in effect for your home area or your destination. You can likely activate that provision in the next 24 hours if things don't change.

It sucks, and I would be having the same anxiety. I hope it turns out OK for you.

Dirk

Dirk,
We were supposed to sail out on the Dream yesterday and cancelled because one in our party is in a wheelchair and we weren't comfortable with what could happen, where we'd end up coming back into port. We were informed there is no refund and the insurance claim would definitely be denied. We might possibly have 75% applied to a future cruise but it's not definite. So disheartening.

Hope you get at least 75% back! Doesn't hurt to lodge a claim with the insurance anyways. If you paid with a credit card see if they have some insurance too.

Supposed to be on the Dream Oct 7 for our first cruise. This was supposed to be a pre-deployment treat for my 10 year old so we could do Halloween before I leave in a few weeks. I guess I'll have to wait till I get back to experience DCL. Hope they announce soon so we can stop thinking about it.
