Actually, the original plant is in Athens, TN. There is another plant in Braselton, GA. It used to be that you could only get Mayfield ice cream in north GA, but when the second plant opened, they could start distributing the milk.

I spent 1977-1986 in Watts Bar Dam, TN, and the Mayfields would visit my parent's restaurant. My mother was friends with Goldie Mayfield, the wife of the T.B. Mayfield, the founder of the dairy. She was an amazing woman and an amazing artist.

The ice cream has changed a little since Dean Foods bought Mayfield, but it's still better than a lot of the milk and ice cream products out there.

And now you know probably a lot more than you wanted to about Mayfield!

Snow in Athens, TN is a rare occurance. When white stuff starts falling out of the sky, they freak out! Even the forecast of snow sends people rushing to the store for milk, water, bread and the like. I think the Mayfields must have been traveling north when they tried out Snow Cream! LOL
