I'm starting to believe that the New England area is the only place where school still starts after Labor Day LOL!!! We (teachers) reported back on Monday and the students will be here this coming Monday!!!

Jen, you are right...the New Englanders are totally diff for school than we are!! Our teachers started last Monday also. Our kids start Monday. Some private and christian schools start on diff days this week.

...and Michigan! We're post-Labor Day out here, too.

Though, my bro teaches in Western MA, and he has to report back next Monday so I think classes start later that week or the following week, which is definitely pre-Labor Day.

I do not know why Disney doesn't just go ahead and do the 180 days for the parks!!!! I neeeeeed that so I can do my ADRs!!!!! I mean, if they already decided to do it, why don't they at least do December!!!! I am sure they know what it's gonna be!!! I like to have my days scheduled so I can figure on where I will be for ADRs!!! This is Madness.

I wouldn't even count on them being out at 90 days for December. The November hours for MK, Epcot, and DHS didn't come out until August 5th and AK didn't come out until August 11th.

But you can pretty much go from the month prior and guess. That's what I had to do. I had them mostly figured out, with only a few surprises in hours/show nights. There was only one thing I had to rearrange my schedule for, and it was a good thing - the Osborne Lights are to start on November 10th!! :cool1:

Hi Kim!! Glad to see you back!!! do you ever take Benadryl or Tylenol pm for your insomnia> you gotta get some sleep girl!!!!! That is hilarious about your kid wantin to sue ya'll!!! Ha!!!!!

Actually I hadn't thought about it. Most of my not sleeping is due to heart burn and acid reflux probably stress related. When I'm over at the inlaws next feeding their mini-farm, I'll see if they have some and try it before I buy some. I'm sure they do as they usually keep a small pharmacy at her house b/c they stay so sick all the time. The DH's parents are in TN on vacation and so I get to feed their about 1/2 dozen chickens, 5 ducks (2 of which are sitting on eggs), 2 geese, and 2 goats (which know how to get out of the pen, but they think they have fixed it to where they can't get out).

I will have so much less stress once the DH finds another job and he is done with his 2nd masters degree. He got his weeks mixed up with school and he thought he had a week more to complete this paper he needed to do for this class. Yesterday I got to help him type a minimum of an 18 page paper. I thought the I.T. paper I typed for him were boring, but this MBA stuff is so much worse. I promise he does all the writing. I just type much faster. Also he has dyslexia, and there are words that he has trouble with still that spell check won't pick up b/c it's technically spelled right just the wrong form. Like using there or their, which or witch. It's just easier for me to type it and have me self correct instead of having to proof read it after he's done.

I wonder if the Osborne Lights always start that early. That is one of the reasons I wanted to move our trip next year from November to December. Well that and the chance that we could go the week of Christmas and Edward James Olmos being the celeb narrator for the Candlelight Processional.

Apparently last year the Osborne Lights started the day after Thanksgiving. When I originally made my Nov 7-15 reservation the CM told me that we would miss the Osborne lights by a few weeks. Being that we would miss it I didn't ask the dates. Then when the November hours came out on the Disney website it states that they start on November 10th. The DIS has them listed as starting on the 28th (which goes along with what the CM told me when I booked). All Ears says the 10th. And the Mickey's Moms panel says it is the 28th and the Disney site must have a "glitch".

So I am hoping that the Disney website has it right! :wizard:

Both the U and grad schools here start the Tuesday after Labor Day. It seems SO late compared to the rest of you. On the plus side, we get to eke out another week or so of summer. And we don't have to deal with students, faculty or college football games for just a bit longer!

i'm at the 30 day mark until my Disney trip!!:yay::dance3::cool1: Still trying to figure out how to Mickey-up my knee brace and if my friend will be seen in public with me, if I do it!

I haven't gotten a solid night sleep since I decided on my surgery. My boss said I probably wouldn't until I end up loaded with narcotics and the night in the hospital. Thats not encouraging - I've still got nearly 2 months to go!

The first night was a "what have I done?" type of obsession. Other early a.m. worries have included "how will I shower?" and "will I be able to wear pants?" What kept me up last night was "I don't want to spend $200 on cross-stitch supplies to keep me busy during my recovery. How can I cut down the cost? Do I need the Magnifica beads? Will that make things affordable?" As you can see, some of my worries are more important than others but I'm afraid I'll be a zombie if I keep this up.

Oh... and my coworker, the one in the next office space over, the one who has more health issues than even me....? She's out for the forseeable future, until the fever breaks and she's recovered from the swine flu. :headache: The rest of our coworkers are totally flipped out, so I'm spending a LOT of time reminding them that they're healthy as horses, they'll probably be fine, and to wash their hands. Just call me Mother Hen! ;)
Sarah, have you considered just renting an ECV for your latest trip? It might be the best thing for your knee - walk when you can and ride when you can't. And good luck with the surgery!

In much of Eastern Massachusetts, at least, school has started the Wednesday before Labor Day for quite some time now. About 6 or 7 years ago, a lot of districts were caught without enough snow days, and had to figure out how to get their 180 days in before July 1, since the state wouldn't allow any exceptions to the 180 day requirement. :faint: And it had to be before July 1, since that's when the next fiscal year started.

So, in an attempt not to be caught flat-footed, schools moved their starting date up. (Of course, then the kids get Friday off too, so a fat lot of good that did!) This year, with Labor Day so late, they better pray that there are very few snow days!

I just checked the DIS again and it now says - November 10th too!!! :woohoo::cool1:

everything I have read says it's Nov 10th. Shelly!! How did you get sooooo many posts? Have I not realized this before? Maybe we asked before and I forgot. Oh well!! It's a lazy day here...it's raining and the temp is dropping, so that's good...not a ton of humidity.Still hot of course,...just not so unbearable!

Is there a tropical storm? Someone said something about it. It just monsooned here and the temp is dropping, too.

I sure hope it's November 10th!! :cool1:

Not sure how I got so many posts! Guess I just talk a lot! :rotfl: I had a lot of posts doing the Snowbird thread last year. And I am on a May thread, we all went in May 2007 and then some of us in May 2008. We chat every single day, sometimes we go through like 8-10 pages a day! Then there's TR's and dining report's I've done. . . you get the picture!

The temp is dropping here a bit too. It has been in the low 90's since about Friday. It has rained a bit and now it's in the upper 80's.

Oh I wish the temperature would drop here but its still really humid and really warm!! Of course we had the remains of TS Claudette come through the other day but I think we have seen the last of the rain from her...now we're just keeping our eyes peeled on Ana to make sure she really did break up over Puerto Rico! Bill we're not worried about he's heading back to the Atlantic but Central Florida might get some rain from him!

Very hot and humid here in upstate NY today.... but I do hear the rumbles of thunder outside....

Our high school kids start school the Wed. after Labor Day... teachers on Tuesday.... that is IF the school is ready to be opened..... our school is under going a major rennovation project which the contracts assured us would be done in time for school.... I can't see how they are possible going to be done... so there is an emergency school board meeting this week about it... I have a feeling if they have to open late they will take away our February break which is when we are planning on going to Disney....rrrrrr...

My in laws are on vacation in TN and they said it has been raining since they got there. However it has kept it cool, and they would rather have a rainy vacation than a hot one.

Okay, this was crazy. I know you all know I get weather headaches...well, today, all of a sudden I got this bad headache..took some meds and went to lay down..the kids put in a movie...well, woke up later and it was POURING!!! i had told Mike last night it looked funny outside..like when a hurricane/tornado comes. Well, when I was asleep...a tornado hit a wal-mart and Kohls about 8 miles north of here. shortly after that, my head ache eased up A LOT!!!! Isn't that weird..... well, the weather guys on tv were saying that the tornado and that storm never even hit the radar:scared1: It was pretty wild too....turned over cars all over the parking lots.Ripped part of the roof off of Kohls and our mall!!!

My kids and I were trying to talk Mike into taking a 4 day weekend this week and taking us to Tenn!!!!! He wanted to do Graceland and I want to show the kids the ducks!!!!!!

My in laws took the boys to TN last year and they went to Graceland. They didn't go on the tour, b/c they thought the boys would be bored. They just took pics in front of the gates. John loved just being there b/c he has the same birthday as Elvis and swears they were best friends when he was in heaven before he was born. The in laws are in Gatlinburg. I talked to them earlier and they are having a blast. They said there is just so much to do there.

Kim~ How funny! Your kids are hilarious!! Is that the same kid that's tryin' to sue you? Glad they are having fun....heard Gatlinburg is awesome! I just wanted to go to Memphis....get outta Texas!!!!!!!
did you take anything for sleep tonight? I actually started to feel some sinus pressure earlier and went ahead and took my allergy pill.....I already feel so much better...I take them at night because they make me so sleepy.....but, I forget to do it until around breakfast the next day!!! Ha!!! then the cycle starts all over again!!! i am nuts.

Yikes!! I've been that close to a tornado once. Never again, please. (It was within my first three months in Michigan, too) However, I get those sinus pressure headaches ALL the time when the weather changes. A few of my coworkers get migraines, as well. Glad you're feeling better!! :wizard:

There's one problem: my pride. There's always the part of me that goes "I can do it, I don't need it, save it for the people who do, I'll be fiiiiiine." You can imagine how well that goes! I've always been like that, too. Hopefully, I'll get over it when I finally have surgery!

I considered renting one in advance but it seems like such a hassle with the buses and stuff. I think I might just try each day at the parks, as needed, and see if there's one available.

I find it completely CRAZY that everyone starts school differently. My brother and his wife teach in separate (public) school districts, and they start at different times! His wife's 180 days is June 25. I'm not sure when his is - probably MUCH earlier. My mom's 180 is June 17.

Of course, in MA, they also typically have the week in February and the week in April, which isn't terribly standard. Ann Arbor has similar, but I don't think anyone else in the county takes two weeks off!

good morning ladies!!:goodvibes
As usual,...after terrible weather, it's just beautiful here today!! I am sure it'll be super hot this afternoon, but right now is pretty. I am sitting here looking at my backyard. Mike and the kids put up our bird feeders this weekend and I saw a mom and dad red bird and a pair of blue birds. I guess they are blue jays...the male is the biggest blue bird I have EVER seen. His body is as big as my fist! i thought he was gonna knock my bird house over! Ha!!!!
Well, I am so glad Disney is moving that adr stuff back...but i wish they would just go ahead and do it. I need it!!!! My park hours won't come out til probably after my ADR day:eek: so...here I agonize. I am the super planner for our family. If I plan a day and it bombs....I am gonna be heartsick. We all work so hard on this stuff and then disappointment sets in if it isn't a perfect day. Well, at least we will be at Disney and if the park we are in is not what we expected, we got those little Park Hoppers!!Just jump over and do something else I guess!!! Can ya'll tell the wait is getting to me?
I hope ya'll are having a great day...just wanted to jump up here and say howdy to every one!! :wave2:
