I love that! My house is always freezing, year round never above 68. I'm sitting in sweatpants/sweatshirt right now. It also doesn't help that it's only 58 outside, with a high of 64 today. Has anyone else noticed that this has been an odd summer as far as weather?

Hope everyone has a good friday and a great weekend!

Girl, I would love to live where you are!! It's been sooo hot. I know on the weather channels they have talked about how up north it's been really cool this summer. Week before last we had, with heat index, 105, and this week, with heat index, 107!!! Average temps are upper 90s. Scorchers!! I haven't seen the 50s or 60s in I don't remember when!! I don't do sweatshirts but about one week outta the whole year. I am sure ya'll like warmer days where you can thaw out...but down here is just ridiculous.

QOTD - We try to always do rope drop or get there as close to it as possible.

AK - They do an awakening of the animals at the main gate. This year when we went Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald came out and did this adventure bit with a checklist. Mickey was back near the tree of life and the others were kind of where everything splits off just past the bridge. It was okay. I don't think I've ever been to rope drop at Epcot.

OH my gosh, I'm just the opposite! If I could pack my whole extended family up we'd be moving south!!! I hate winter, love spring and summer, and I love the temps of fall (and the clothes), but it makes me sad to see things dying and knowing that SNOW and frigid temps are coming soon! I swear I think I get that seasonal depression. I want to curl up and go to bed the minute I get home from work because it's already dark!

QOTD: we do rope drop at MK-it's amazing! :love:I can't miss it. Although this next trip I want to do CP early so I can see Main Street USA EMPTY! But then I'll miss the opening show! What's a girl to do??? :confused3 Maybe we'll have to do MK two mornings! The other parks, we get there early, around opening, but we don't totally rush. One of us is usually up pretty early, so we'll go get some snacks and fill our mugs while the other gets ready and gets the boys up and ready. If we're up, we get moving as soon as possible, but if we don't wake up TOO early, it's not that big of a deal.

Okay girls....guess what? I am sitting at my table looking out side at a GEOURGOUS sweet gum tree right outside my back fence. AND.....the outer, bottom leaves are turning colors!!!!!There is also a little oak tree to the left of my kitchen that has a few bright reddish leaves on it.

My birthday is next week...and here it is usually the hottest week we have (barring heat waves;) ) and then within 1-2 weeks you can feel the change coming in the air....it's one of my Favorite Things. How exciting!! I am a fall lover!!! We still have some absolutely scorching days here in the fall, but you can just feel the change in the atmosphere----it's not so heavy.
I know ya'll have heard me whine all summer about feeling bad in the summer and what not. Well, I went to the Dr a couple of weeks ago and had a scad of bloodwork done.....we are trying to find out why I keep feeling this way. I thought perhaps I was anemic again, or had some lurking illness. Well, it all came back okay.:yay: I am not harboring some draining ailment. So...he said it is probably all hormone related.
so, I told Mike that for medical reasons, we have to move to a northern border state, or Canada.:rotfl:

Shawna - your yard sounds absolutely gorgeous! Fall is my favourite season too! I love seeing the leaves change colour! :goodvibes I am so glad that your tests came back with no problems - I was definitely praying for that! :thumbsup2 You SHOULD come up to Canada sometime! I think you would really enjoy this country of mine! It is unique and beautiful and definitely NOT TOO HOT!!! :rotfl: Your birthday is next week, eh? That is good to know!

QOTD- We did Rope Drop EVERY SINGLE DAY OF OUR TRIP!!! with one tiny exception - we missed AK RD by about 5 mins! I figure, my kids are up by 7:30am anyways so why not take advantage of the benefit of getting there first thing and getting all the big ticket rides done before the lines grow too big! :)

I would loooove to come see you and your country!! Mike asked me what I want for my bday...maybe he will let us get passports!! They are sooo expensive now!! Especially when you gotta get 5 at a time!! but at least they last for a few years and it's not an annual thing. I have had the forms sitting on my schoolroom desk since the end of May...haven't filled 'em out because I would want to run turn them in!!!

My kids all get up at different times of morning...one is super early, one's early and ones LATE!!! I am gonna light a fire under them next trip..we gotta do rope drop!!! Okay, if we do rope drop at MK..what time should you be there? I am gonna just walk from the contemporary...I know that should allow about 15 minutes...so if the Rope Drop/opening is at 9, what time should I be standing there. I read somewhere people are there an hour before? Is that necessary? Especially at slower times of the year?

Okay, I am gonna make this the QOTD:Do you do rope drop;what time do you arrive at the parks?

Never. My d likes her sleep too much!! :rotfl:Last trip, I woke her at about 8:30 to get to DHS (we arrived after rope drop), and it took until the third time through TSM for her to grudgingly acknowledge that I had been correct! :lmao:

My DD is is Croc Dock too! this week - she is loving it! :)

My girls are doing Crocodile Dock next week! They are so excited to do Day Camp at our church next week! I was asked to volunteer but I am being a teeny bit selfish and taking the week for myself! ;) 40 hrs of kid free time! :cool1: I already have a list a mile long of things I want to do and accomplish! :goodvibes

We are home from our last day of VBS. It was a long, tiring, but very fun week. Madison had a blast and I can't get the songs out of my head (we bought the cd)! Our church really goes all out. The main santuary got turned into the bayou and they did an awesome opening each day. The hallway get all decorated with lots of cool stuff and they have a black light to light it all up. It's incredible!

Can I ask a silly question? What's "Crocodile Dock"? I know it's some sort of vacation Bible study, but what do you do there to make the kids want to come? I know that around here, it's a struggle to get kids to Hebrew School, so I'm just curious. (And maybe I can steal a few ideas to present to our synagogue!)

Each year, we do a new theme for VBS. There is a website called Group.com that we get our VBS stuff from. Every day, the kids go to 4 different rooms/areas: Bible, Craft, Snack and Games (that's where I volunteer). The craft usually goes along with what they're learning in the Bible room. With games, we try to use the theme, but we just want them to have fun and burn off some steam. Fridays are always water balloons (we have this awesome slingshot that we use to sling the balloons out into the field). The kids also go into the main auditorium in the morning, in the middle of the day and the end of the day. They sing really awesome songs and have a blast. Also, at dismissal each day, they get some sort of coupon (free bowling, putt putt, pizza, etc). We had over 400 kids come ot VBS this week. They're not just our church kids either. They invite their friends, the parents see flyers in the paper, etc.

Crocodile Dock is the theme for our VBS week, too. Our VBS week is the 26-30. If you'll recall from the previous chat, we just started attending this church in February. We couldn't be more thrilled or feel more at home. The children's pastor is just wonderful and I honestly think he lives for VBS week each year!! I know for us they're doing the whole cajun/swamp theme. He's turning the sanctuary into a swamp! He'd love to have a real alligator, but I don't think that's going to work out for him. :rotfl2: Unfortunately I'll be out of town on business that week, but DH is volunteering - I believe his words were "put me anywhere but with the babies." :lmao:

Awesome! Your kids are going to have so much fun. We had a woman bring in real possums to show the kids!

I personally think it really is the weather here. As soon as summer ends....I feel soooo much better. When I was a kid, one of my grandmothers would get her husband to travel all summer....she couldn't take the heat either. They would go to Colorado, then travel up to Canada....she always said it was cause she was 'heavy' that she couldn't take the heat....her house was like a meat locker. Really..we would have blankets and quilts in the summertime!!!! But, now, I don't think it was her weight at all....I could definitely lose 10#s,but i am not overweight and I just am miserable here from June into Sept.

so, I told Mike that for medical reasons, we have to move to a northern border state, or Canada.:rotfl:

Come move to Buffalo! :rotfl:

Whoa! I'm already behind... oh well.

I'm back from my Graduation Trip, which was lovely. My DH is now officially an on-property and Dining Plan snob.
I don't think he enjoys Disneying with my family either, which was probably a huge contributing factor to his snobbery.:rolleyes1

We went resort hopping quite a bit, and DH has decided he wants to stay in the Wilderness Lodge next. We'll have to wait and see before planning our next trip though.

I am planning on a TR, but it might have to wait until I finish the one from January.
Overall, it was better than I thought it would be, and my huge stresser, the bus from the airport, went very smoothly both ways. (though ME is definitely a step up:thumbsup2) It dropped us off and picked us up directly in front of our hotel on Hotel Plaza Blvd, because that's where the LYNX bus stop was.

We just picked up our Disney documents from AAA! That means we are under a month now! We have just a few more details to think about...

Has anyone done the Animal Kingdom picnic thing yet? Our AAA agent said that it is included in the Quick Service Dining Plan. We'll have to look into that.

How about the new Wishes Dessert Party? It got great reviews on the DIS podcast and sounds like a good price. I'm not sure if we will need any more food, though, as we are on the free dining plan!

Touringplans.com has the crowds predicted at 5's for the first couple of days! I hope that is true; it sounds wonderful.

Welcome back!! I'm glad that your trip went smoother than you thought it would. We stayed at the WL on our last trip and loved it!! The only thing that I didn't like about it was Roaring Forks, which wasn't a big deal b/c we only went there once in our trip. I just thought it was really small and had a bad lay-out. Then John was really freaked out by the ducks landing in the pool. He liked getting to see them and all the other critters we saw, he just didn't want them in the pool with him.:lmao:

sarah~ Saving up for Europe would be awesome!! :yay: But, I am just a gifty-girl!!!! I HAVE to do it!!! I know some people don't care one way or another, but I like doing it... my hunny does too. Of course, if I knew in a little less than a year, I was goin' to be Across the Pond....a great card with a sweet love note inside would do the trick!!!!:lovestruc

Your backyard sounds so pretty!! We live in a sub-division so are yard is small. I feel the same way about the Texas summers. As soon as it starts getting hot, I would love to just pack up and head off to Estes Park, CO until the weather start cooling off.

:rotfl:

That weather sounds amazing right now. The only thing that I hate about living here are the summers. I just hate the heat. Luckily today it's only supposed to get up to 97. Hopefully the really hot days are behind us. I hadn't noticed anything different. However since the boys aren't in school, we stay in most days and I rarely pay attention to the weather since we aren't planning on being out in it.

QotD: I think we did several rope drops. I know for sure we did a rope drop on our last trip for AK and DHS. Now that I think of it we may have done them for every park but EPCOT. I'm not sure right now. Since Wednesday morning I've only gotten maybe 8 hours of sleep, so my brain just isn't working right. Well I'm off to double check all the carpets in the "flood zone" again. While I was running an errand yesterday morning John flooded part of the house. Our cat only drinks fresh water from the sink, so he went to give him some water. The cat ran out of the bathroom right after he turned the water on. Instead of turning off the water and running after him, he left the water running for hours.

Never. My d likes her sleep too much!! :rotfl:Last trip, I woke her at about 8:30 to get to DHS (we arrived after rope drop), and it took until the third time through TSM for her to grudgingly acknowledge that I had been correct! :lmao:

I couldn't get my Dad to stop arguing with me this trip. It was like he was trying to find something I was wrong about.:confused3

QOTD: I like to vary rope drop and late days. It's just too hard to get up that early every day, even with a midday break. However, I prefer rope drop days, because I always feel like I get much more done. Last week we did 3 rope drop days and 2 sleep-in days. I didn't like our sleep-in days at all, because by the time we got to the parks it was already miserably hot. They also happened to be the 2 days that it didn't rain as much, which meant fewer clouds to block the sun.
In January we didn't run into that problem, because it was never that hot, but Monday was terrible.

My kids all get up at different times of morning...one is super early, one's early and ones LATE!!! I am gonna light a fire under them next trip..we gotta do rope drop!!! I think if you are walking from the Contemporary to MK you should plan to leave your room by 8:30am at the latest. I walked the path just for kicks one day and it honestly took me about 10 minutes to get from the turnstiles at MK to the lobby at CR. You really don't need to be there SO early unless you want to see the opening show! :)

Congrats on getting your documents!! I hope you all have a magical time. I thought the AK picnic thing looked really cool. I would love to try it.

Well today we are celebrating my mom's (well technically mother in law's birthday). She just wanted a bunch of ice cream, brownies, and chocolate covered bananas. You ladies have a great weekend. Hopefully we won't all go into a diabetic coma.

Come move to Buffalo! :rotfl:
girl, I would LOOOOOVE to!! Glad your VBS was so much fun!!

Actually.....we are in a subdivision too!! With a smallish yard...not tiny, but not too big..we have a pool and some really different palm trees... they are called fox tails. I loooove them...nobody else really has that kind around here, but the trees I see changing are actually in the yard behind us, and one beside us... I get to see their beauty, and not rake their leaves! Ha!!

I know girl...same here....why do we stay here? I know it's gonna be hot this week and next week, but maybe the end is near!!!!

Poor you!! Mike did that last week too!! He put a pair of shoes to clean in the laundry room sink and turned the water on full blast. then he came out back to talk to me and the kids...he totally forgot it... thank the Lord I came in and heard water running or he would have flooded the whole house. It would have ruined our wood floors!!!!! It was quite a mess... I felt sorry for him so I didn't say anything,,,we just started mopping!:sad2:

It's summer in texas....aka the rain forest, so no, you won't go into a coma...its the only way we can survive right now...enjoy it!!!!!Sounds like a good birthday present to me!!!

huh? I'm confused. I was just joking about all the sugar putting us into a diabetic coma. :lmao:
We had a great day at the in laws, although it started off rough. David set the alarm, but forgot to turn it on, so we over slept. When we got there my brother in law was finishing up making the cheeseburgers. After we ate lunch, my mother in law brought out all the sweet. We had a cookie cake, a selection of cheesecakes, chocolate cover bananas, and Nestle Drumsticks that had vanilla, chocolate, and vanilla with caramel ice creams in them. Then for dinner, my DH and father in law made steak, chicken, and bake potatoes on the grill. The boys ended up spending the night. Tomorrow is Harry Potter!! I can't wait to see it!! This is the first movie we missed the midnight show for.

Okay, this may be a stupid question but - are they not showing Wishes every night at MK??? I was looking at the October park hours/daily schedules and it only shows Spectro & Wishes 4 nights a week. . . Spectro doesn't surprise me, I knew they cut that back, as well as Fantasmic. But Wishes? For October is shows Spectro & Wishes on Sun, Wed, Fri, and Sat. But neither on Mon, Tues, or Thurs. . . :confused3

In January I am pretty sure Wishes was shown every night, but Spectro & Fantasmic were only 2 nights a week. . .

Are those Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays possibly Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party nights? On those nights there is no regular Wishes.

I was looking into the picnic thing at AK for our next trip too. It looks like a lot of food for a counter service credit. If you try it be sure to share how it was! I'm hoping the Wishes Dessert party is extended into Jan. Did you see the pictures of all those desserts- they look heavenly- YUM!!!

Hope everyone has had an enjoyable weekend. I saw Harry Potter yesterday:wizard:. It was good but lots was missing from the book. Guess that's what I get for being a book worm. I never like movies of books I've read. The books are always better. :headache:

Okay back to Disney talk...you'll never believe it but DH and I are questioning using the pin code I got yesterday for free dining into December. :scared:

Please tell me your thoughts...Dec 5-13 vs. Jan 23-30???
I'd rather go the last week in Jan but free dining is tempting. And if no discounts are released for Jan then our trip is off. But I'm worried I'll book Dec and a better deal will come out for Jan. Ugh!!! I just wish Disney would let me know they're offering for Jan. I'm sure it's going to be something with the economy dragging and it being the slow season and all. Plus DS would only miss 4 days of school if we go the last week in Jan. and I could keep the trip as the kids Christmas surprise present. Then again I've always wanted to see Disney decorated for Christmas. Don't get me wrong I'm so happy to be finally getting codes but darn it they are tempting and make me go back and forth all the time.

I totally agree with you about the whole book/Movie thing! I think the only onle book that was made into a movie that was actually better than the actual book was Disney's "Holes". :confused3

If you are most concerned about the financial aspect of a Disney trip I would say that doing Free Dining at a value in December would be your best deal! :thumbsup2 We got the PIN too and we can't use it as DH has church commitments through the month of December! Our annual Dinner Theatre is held the first 2 weekends in December and he is very involved in that!

The bottom line is what is best for your family in all areas, budget and experience wise! I would love to see Disney at Christmas! We can hope for a great deal for January (it will most likely be the 4/3 again in some variation!) but for our family Free Dining is the best deal! It is a hard choice! Good Luck! :goodvibes

I'm going to have to crunch the numbers I think. We usually eat pretty cheap and don't do too many TS so I'm not sure if free dining will be the best savings for us. I just wish I knew if the 4/3 was a definite so I'd know what numbers to crunch:headache:.
