~Snowbird Chat 2~

I know I haven't been on here for a while, but I've been keeping up!

I know what you all mean about time flying - my d has been a college graduate for more than a year now! :scared1: Luckily, she's also gainfully employed, and almost self-supporting. In this economy, it's about all one can ask! :rolleyes1

I got back a while ago from my cruise to Bermuda on Norwegian Dawn. Even though I was in an interior cabin, a single adult, I got three towel animals!

And the cruise was great, too!

Hey there snykymom!! Nice to see you here again! Glad you had a good cruise!
Who are you sailing with to Alaska (which cruise line I mean)? We're doing a Disney cruise to Alaska in August 2013. I'd be interested to hear your experiences!

Good job to your daughter! :thumbsup2 It's almost sad how many college grads can't find work.

Looks like we might be doing our second Alaskan cruise next summer!:banana:

(My husband says that means we have to cancel our January cruise. I don't see a problem with two in one year, do you? :confused3)

We went in 2008. In fact, as soon as we got back from that cruise, we started planning our January 2009 Disney World trip!

(We did NOT go to the cities for a baseball game today. We looked at the temps and went "nope. A/C in the living room it is!")

Ummm.. I don't see anything wrong with two cruises in one year. :lmao: Trying to talk DH into another one next year...he wants to do something else on land.... I reminded him that it was fine with me, but he chooses to do something besides Disney or a cruise, I didn't want to hear him complain about the cost of every little thing - something that gets masked at Disney or on a ship. :)

Anyone have big plans for the the 4th? After a busy weekend of DS's soccer tournament on Saturday (he played 5 games in 90-100 degree weather), we're looking forward to a day of nothing. All fireworks (personal and most professional displays) have been banned around here due to the drought conditions, so it should be nice and quiet (just the way I like it! :thumbsup2).

I suspect I'll have a hard time finding a warm weather/tropical vacation for the same price as a cruise. I'm not going to worry about it until my in-laws have committed to an Alaskan cruise next year (if they don't, we're going to go in 2014, so I wouldn't be cancelling anything I already have set up! ;)).

We're flying on the 4th! We're visiting my husband's parents at the moment, so we'll be flying home that day, landing (knock wood!) around dinner time. Most fireworks at home are on the night of the 3rd, so we're missing them, no matter what. I always turn on the Boston Pops, though - it's not really the 4th without 'em, for me!

Our weather actually hasn't been too bad lately. Crazy humid. The rain has begun, but that actually cools things off a bit. I have no desire to be outside in the heat most days, but it's not terrible.

We're still in limbo, and I don't expect to be released this week, because they have Wednesday and Thursday off and Friday is a "Family Day" which basically means nobody works, even though they're expected to report.
I'm really excited, because they moved our church building closer! No more riding a train for 30 minutes and walking another 15 in the rain. I guess there are finally enough families here for them to justify it. Of course, it's right before we leave...

I went ahead and booked a couple ADRs the other day. IF we don't end up in Hawaii, DH has agreed to take me to WDW in either December (his birthday) or January (our anniversary). I booked two ADRs for his birthday (Jan ADRs aren't open yet) - Lunch at Sci Fi Dine In (one of his favorites) and dinner at Flying Fish (he loves sea food). I figured they'd be appropriate, because I expect he'll want to go to his favorite park (DHS) on his birthday. We have a Free Dining pin sitting in the inbox right now, so we'll probably use that, unless something better comes out. DH loves the Dining Plan, and it wouldn't be a terrible deal for us if it's free. I may opt to upgrade to the Deluxe though. The two places next on our list are Wilderness Lodge and Port Orleans, but we'll see where we can get the best deal.

We're cruising Princess, southbound from Whittier (Anchorage's port) to Vancouver. They seemed to have the best itinerary for glaciers - we go both to Glacier Bay and Hubbard Glacier. I wanted to see things that you can't see from land.

Without kids, it didn't make sense to do Disney to Alaska; it's more about the scenery than the ship there. I may check out Disney for a Caribbean cruise, though.

I don't see a problem with 2 cruises in a year; after all, I'm doing 2 cruises in three months!

I don't see a problem at all!

If there are any other Canadians on here, Happy Belated Canada Day! Didn't do much here - went to dinner with some friends and then watched different firework shows from my apartment window.

Hi all, just checking in. I've been stalking but haven't posted much! We had hoped to go to Disney in August, but due to scheduling, I'm sticking to my original Snowbirds roots and we're going back in January! 11-19th to be exact. AND, it happens to be marathon weekend, so I'm signing up for my first 1/2!!! My MIL is going so Andy and I can run (ok, run/walk-mostly walk) together. IM SO EXCITED!! Now, where to stay, where to eat...

Girl..you are almost to your ADR day!! You have to do BOG for sure!! I may miss it on our trip--they haven't said certain dates yet, just holiday 2012....the menu looks great!

Hi friends! Stopping in to say 'hello'.

I am so jealous of all the cruise talk. I am dying for an adults only trip and I love to cruise.

My grandmother has been talking about a big family Disney trip next summer, but I'm not sure how I feel about it. We would be going in July, G wouldn't be along to help and I'll have Belle, a two year old and an 8 month old.

Oh, and PS- We've got another little princess: coming in September. She was a suprise!!!:goodvibes

Hey!! Glad you came over for a short visit! LOL!! I have to say,in all honesty, I have been in July and I would NEVER do it again! Especially with 3 kids that little,...I personally can't take heat all day like that. I think you would be super drained- I know you would have family along to help, but I just don't think y'all would get as much out of it as you would in a cooler time. But, that's just my unsolicited 2 cents worth!
Plus the crowds are nuts and you would be maneuvering that stroller with 2 or 3 of them in there:scared1: might make you crazy!!
I know you are super busy,...but we still miss you on here!!

Well Hello there!!
Congratulations on your surprise! You will have your hands full!
We did July once too, and while it was a fun trip, (we also went to Cocoa Beach for a week), I do not want to go back in summer. It is draining and since we live in a cold climate, it's much nicer to go in winter!!

Hope things are going well for you!

Hi Soleil!

Congrats on your little surprise! :cloud9:

Hey Soliel!! Congrats on your little surprise! We did Disney in June last year and it was pretty hot but not obscene. It's been a while since I've been in July.

Let the planning begin!

Yay!!! I plan on running the Disney Princess 1/2 marathon in February. Registration opens up a week from today!!!! :scared1: My mom ran it last year (did the Galloway run/walk program) and I can't wait to run it together!

My agency is trying to put together a group rate for Marathon weekend. I hope to hang up a flyer at my local running store to generate some more business. Its' been a little slow around here lately!
