~Snowbird Chat 2~

The wearing shoes in the house for us depends on the time of year. During winter the shoes come off and usually slippers go on. If the shoes aren't wet I'll wear them around the house. Summer is usually spent in sandals. When I get home from work in summer my shoes/socks are off and I'm barefoot.

Kim...hope Nat is better!! I am suffering with insomnia from my dang meds! And the other one is making me HOT...like burning up all day...and I can't get sun exposure with it..great... I will be the one to break out in hives!
Shoes...no, we don't wear them in here..unless somedays I feel reaaaaally tired and have lots to do, I will wear my sneakers (running/walking shoes) for some extra energy...we take ours off at the door...sandals,flip flops, sneakers go outside on a shelf. nice church shoes go in the closet! I do wear house shoes, or socks if i feel chilly, but we are pretty much barefoot inside!

I wear shoes in the house, and I think many New Englanders do, too. If it's messy out, then the shoes come off, but otherwise, they're on. We rarely take them off in dry weather, and even more rarely in other people's houses.

The same thing held true when growing up in NJ, and in NYC, everyone wears shoes.

It's not just on TV; maybe it's because many TV shows are et in or produced in NY?

I have kind of a weird question for you all - whenever we watch TV shows we always notice that many if not all the characters wear their shoes in and around the house! I am wondering is that just a TV thing or do people actually wear their outdoor shoes into and around the house?? We don't but then again we have such differing weather all year round it would be practically impossible to keep the floors clean! ;)

In the winter, shoes are a big no-no to wear throughout the house. We generally take our shoes off in the house, unless we're wearing flip flops or crocs (for Maddie). Tony and Maddie take their socks off the minute they come into the house (even in the winter). My feet are always cold, so it's sock and slippers for me most of the year. I also hate the feeling of bare feet on carpet, so I usually put socks on in the summer. I'm one of those weird people who wear socks to bed too.

Now THAT is an interesting idea!!! I never thought of that! Thanks for all the answers my friends!!! Very interesting indeed!!! :)

You know, my husband is from Minnesota. I'm from MA. I grew up with shoes on ALL the time. He grew up with SHOES OFF the minute you walk inside the door. I guess I hadn't thought about it as a cultural thing, depending on where in the country you're from!

We had our house appraised yesterday, as we're looking at refinancing under one of the government programs. I was rather disappointed to learn that our house has dropped over SIXTY THOUSAND DOLLARS since we purchased it. Ouch. Of course we're underwater... so now we need to figure out what the fees are and if it's worth it to refinance. If we'd been at a break-even point, it would be a total no-brainer, but now we have to stop and think. The new rates are much MUCH lower.

Still. Ow! And bummer! Makes me debate why I want to make my house look pretty. It certainly isn't worth it except for my own sense of well-being!

But more importantly, my family and I finished nailing down our ADRs tihs week! Final payment for our July trip is due in just over a month - hooray! It's nice to think about excessively hot and humid weather when it's cold and grey out. Yesterday, we had enough daylight to have shadows. Haha.

Hope everyone who celebrates had a wonderful Easter!

Now for my milestone - I learned to use an orbital sander! My first power tool, and I still have all my fingers & toes! And so do my DH and my cats! :rotfl: We're painting the dining room, so I spackled & then sanded. I also painted the ceiling. My arms & shoulders are really sore, but it'll be great when I can finally slap some paint on those walls!

Hope everyone had a nice relaxing holiday :)

We don't wear shoes in our house because I can't stand dirty floors. Growing up, we wore shoes in the house all of the time. My parents still walk around with their shoes on.

Hope everyone had a good weekend/Easter. Saturday I worked til 1 then spent the afternoon with my Goddaughter and her family celebrating a couple birthdays and Easter. Then today, after finally having a holiday off, we spent the afternoon with some great friends. I used to babysit for their kids, the oldest of whom is a senior and will be graduating in June.

After having a terrible morning at work on Saturday, it was great to be around people that I truly consider family.

Have a wonderful week everyone. Here's hoping Spring is actually on the way...:wizard:

Hello Snowbirds. Long time no "see". I hope everyone is doing well and had a wonderful Easter weekend. We are still on Easter break today and go back to school tomorrow.

Our weather has been pretty crappy. Lots of rain and still cold for the most part. It's warmer today - around 70 and actually not raining!! But it is supposed to rain & be chilly the rest of the week. :sad2: I am so ready for summer!

Does anyone have a WDW trip coming up soon? We are closing in on 4 months already! I may start a PTR within the next month or so.

As for the shoes in the house -- No Way!! We never wear shoes in the house. It's really gross when you think about it - all the places you walk and things you might step on outside and in public places! :scared1:

Have a great week everyone.

Beautiful weather here today! It's a nice change after days upon days upon days of rain. You'd think we lived in Seattle!

Our trip (which is back on again) is just 53 days away!! I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! Went in the hunt for sunblock today but can't find the brand that I want for my pastey white children. I'll have to order it online!

Can't remember if I showed these to you all. I had them made upfor the boys for or trip.

Hi everyone! Maddie went back to school today, so we're back into the routine. The weather was so miserable last week while she was off, but we had the most perfect day on Saturday. It was warm & sunny so we went for a walk to the playground, had chicken on the grill and then went for ice cream after dinner. It was great! :goodvibes

It was a bit chillier yesterday, but still very pleasant. We had a wonderful church service and then went over to my sister and BIL's house for dinner...ham, fettuccini alfredo, potatos au gratin, rolls, salad...everything was so yummy! Then, we all settled in to watch the Buffalo Sabres game. It was very stressful to watch and now we have to play Game 7 tomorrow night in Philly. Yikes!!!

The weather wasn't too bad earlier today...mid 50's I think, but it started raining a few hours ago. I'm so sick of the rain!!! The temps are supposed to get into the 70's this week, but with lots more rain. I'm not much of a gardener (I despise it actually) but everytime I go outside and see my garden, it gives me a headache. The weeds are already about an inch or so tall and there is nothing I can do about it. There is no way I can be down on my hands and knees while 35 weeks pregnant. Besides, the weather doesn't want to cooperate.

hello ladies!! Hope your Easter holidays were wonderful!!
Our school is officially over for this year!!! :yay: So....now I have to start deciding what we will do for next year!! I kinda know, just need to see when to order what...sometimes they do early bird specials for ordering before June, when the conventions are all firing up! I have to plan a summer reading program for them too...usually a little bribery in there too! LOL...at least when they were little-we did the library thing, then just kept it going at home. Our weather is soooo windy,...we have actually been praying for rain--Gov.Perry issued a thing out Friday asking for people of all faiths to pray for rain for a 3 day period...heard that a storm is coming about 3 hours north of us, so maybe we will get some?!! We are in a severe need- had lots and lots of wildfires...we usually don't get all that here...
Shelly,..yep, get that PTR going girl!!! Which longhouse are you requesting at the Poly..or are you gonna just take what you get? We have stayed at the one that starts with an 'A', forgot what it's called,--had the monorail go right past our room...it was cool-there were palm trees between us and the track...loved that sound! Then we were at the Tokelau the 2nd time---not the best view, but the rooms were larger....and pretty central to the TTC monorail, or over to MK...
Got a 'female' question for ya'll...any of you every used/tried natural hormones, supplements, or progesterone? If you do and dn't want to post here, PM me...i am looking into some natural supplementing...just curious if you had any experience! Not anything bad or wrong with me, just some new info I came upon and I am looking into it! Anything that makes all that easier is up for research by me!! LOL
I am near the end of my antibiotic for that lingering sinus infection! I did feel so much better by the 3rd day!! I just hope this time the round of meds really kills it!!
some friends of ours are meeting us out for dinner tonight and take the kids to see Rio...hope it's cute...heard mixed reviews about it. We did see HOP and just loved it!
Mindy...loved your t shirts!! And that baby is getting big!!!! Congrats on being under 2 months out for your trip!! I know you are excited!! Recap your plans for us...I have totally forgotten what you're doing! My trip is far enough away, I need to read all of everyone else's plans!

I'd be happy to recap for you all!!

We are arriving at WDW on June 18. Staying 6 nights at the Poly. I requested Tokelau building or Rarotonga as a second. ADRs include Hoop Dee Doo, Ohana, Whispering Canyon, 50s Prime Time, Chef Mickey's and Rainforest Cafe DTD. Very excited for Rylan's first rides on Space Mountain, E:E and Spalsh Mountain (it's always been closed on previous visits). I'm also excited for Chase to ride It's a Small World. He has been watching it on YouTube. It's about as long as he'll tolerate any sort of TV.

You will love that building...it's pretty central and the rooms are bigger. Yippee for the HDDR and the 50s PT!! Two of our favorite things to do! Have you checked on Its a Small world lately? They changed the direction of the entrance /exit while they are working on the extension...at least I think that's the plan! And you will get to see the top of Beast's castle!!! I read that you get a good view if you are on Dumbo!! I know you are all excited and can't wait!! As for sunblock...have you heard of Bullfrog? It's a good kids lotion...and it comes in a heavier gel.... I love the little sticks they make now that are portable and you can hit the backs of their ears, necks and little cheeks!

It's been more than a year since our last cruise my rough IASW. Chase was only 10 weeks. Hard to believe. I will keep my eyes peeled for Fantasyland Expansion.

We love HDDR. It's always our first night tradition. Ry loves it, even thPugh he eats nothing on the menu LOL Never been to 50s PT but we are looking forward to trying it.

I've heard of Bullfrog but haven't seen it in the stores. I was looking for either California Baby or Blue Lizard. Target didn't appear to have the first and our Wegmans was out of Blue Lizard. I'll check again later in the week.

Happy belated Easter and Passover to everyone!

We enjoyed a nice Easter weekend camping. Rain or not it was a very needed weekend. Jason finished 2 weeks of training on the 2nd shift which was torture for all of us. It was also the first time we've relaxed since Jason's dad passed away. Things are starting to get back to normal and it feels nice.

I've been avoiding the DIS since I don't know when our next trip will be. Yet I find myself pricing out trips for the fall from all angles- free dining, room discount, etc. just in case Disney releases some discounts that will make it happen. The kids are really putting the pressure on Jason. :stir: Emily picked our Disney scrapbooks as our bedtime stories last night and they went on and on talking about how much fun we had and how much they want to go back. Little by little they will wear him down.

Mindy- Love the shirts!!!!

Shawna- Congrats on being done for the school year!

Oh and on the shoes in the house topic- NO shoes in the house! I even have my daycare families trained. It's amazing how much stuff you track in on shoes- everything from pesticides to public toilet germs. :crazy2: I'm a germaphobe.

Kim~ you have sooo much planned already! Good for you!! I smiled when I read the 50s Prime Time...gosh we love that place! I am glad you have so much time in the afternoons spent resting/swimming...it does get sooooo hot! Just remember that the humidity is a factor, totally apart from just the heat itself! You don't even have to be in the direct heat for it to sap your energy! And make sure you have lots of water and limit the carbonation....totally drains you!! But, I am sure you knew that,...just wanted to remind you as any good friend from the south should do! :rotfl:
How cool that you are incorporating other places!!! Don't know if you will have time, but if so, you should try to make it to at least one plantation home tour....I know you loved staying at Port Orleans,so a real one would give the girls an idea what they base it off of!!! AND you get to see Sheree & Shelly!! This is going to be an awesome trip!!!! I hope that Nat gets to swim until she's sick of it! LOL!!! and having your car will make getting to DTD so much faster!! That's the worst/longest bus ride we EVER have...especially coming back-not sure why....
I know you are all sick of snow & winter up North!! Can't believe y'all are still getting it coming down!!! We, on the other hand are in a drought!! Praise the Lord tho!! It did rain yesterday morning!!! It was a blessing...even though we need tons more!!! Driving over our rivers and creeks, you can see way more of the sides than ever before...some are even at a dangerously low level....So, if y'all think about it, pray for us to get more rain!!! April Showers did not deliver this year....but we will take it on into May if we can get it!!

Kim - your trip sounds great, & so does your secret! And this time, I have a secret, too!

First, the not-secret part: After hemming and hawing, DH has decided to come to Bermuda with us to celebrate our daughter's college graduation! :woohoo: (Getting this guy to take a vacation is more difficult than herding cats )

Now, he's also trying to decide if he can come to Disney with me in October, since a week or so later he has a business trip. He doesn't like the parks, so I've told him that he can do whatever he wants, including multiple rounds of golf, or even work in the hotel if he feels the need - the only thing he can't do is make appointments for that week! He claims the resort doesn't matter. But since he'll probably spend a lot more time in the room, and we have ADRs all three of their restaurants, I've reserved a Deluxe Suite Savannah View at AKL! :yay::yay: I'm so excited - if he comes he can sit out on the balcony & watch the animals while he works! (I'll bring an extra long surge protector & network cord so he can be plugged in!) And even if he doesn't come, since I've spent so much time at the parks in the past couple of years and don't need to do commando, I'll also spend some time at the resort! I just can't let him know how much I'm spending! :lmao:

Oh, the machinations we all go through!
