~Snowbird Chat 2~

Those are crazy pictures!! The Susquehanna was running high up here but nothing too bad, fortunately. Lots over overflowing banks of creeks and streams.

Thanks for asking about Chase. He is back to his old self. Counting the days until spring and hopefully the end of sickness.

wow Kim!! that's sooo much water!!! we are still in 'low-water' state around here...our lakes and rivers are suuuper low...by sometime like Dec we were 30" below normal!! And we didnt get near the rain this winter like we usually do...I am praying for rain tomorrow....I got up with the time change ok, but I was tired from coughing all night...just took some Nyquil--which I have never taken, so hopefully it won't knock me out too bad in the morning! but, if I wake up to dark and rainy I may have to sleep in!:yay:

Happy Monday, Birdies! :goodvibes
We were gone all last week, so I'm way behind on the happenings here. I missed wishing Sheree a Bon Voyage...I'm sure they're having a fabulous time!

Sorry to hear there's another round of illness. Mindy, I'm glad your little man is doing better. Kim, I hope you're feeling better--how frustrating that they can't find what's wrong!

Kim, I continue to pray for your family and especially your FIL and MIL. Thank you for keeping us posted.

Shelly, when do you leave for your Spring Training trip? Baseball in Florida sounds sooo lovely and relaxing right now!

snykymom, what do you have planned for London? If you get too bored there  you can hop on the Eurostar and be in Brussels in a few hours...I'll meet you there!

Sorry, I know I'm leaving out a bunch more stuff...darn vacation getting in the way of my DIS time. :upsidedow Hope you all have a happy Disney day!

well...I finally got a pin code. It's the dining code available thru Aug. Of course, now that I am riding the fence on not even doing the ddp, and won't be there until Nov!!! UUUGGGGHH! But, at least I know I am on the list--it came in my hubbys name, not mine!!! And he never books anything!!!!

With my oldest son, I was congested from mid pregnancy til delivery. As soon as I delivered him, it was instant relief. I was like that a little with Chase but not nearly as bad.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

This is definately a sinus thing. We had some "warmer" days last week and then the next day is was snowing again. It's been pretty chilly all weekend which just makes my sinuses worse. It's supposed to be in the mid to high 40's the rest of the week, so that's good! Severe sinus problems run in my family.

Meghan- I bet Madison and you are both happy not to have to mess with curling her hair anymore! Hope you're feeling better soon. I had a stuffy nose and nose bleeds with Andrew throughout my entire pregnancy. It was awful but like Mindy said, it was gone the minute he came out. :confused3

I LOVE not having to curl her hair anymore. The past 3 weekends have been nothing but shows for her and it would have been a nightmare if I had to curl her hair. She's dancing all day on St. Patrick's day too and now I don't have to worry about her curls coming out.

I hope this sinus junk goes away by Saturday....my baby shower!!! I definately feel better today than I did yesterday, but I wish I could back to sleep. However, I have a doctor's appointment today for my glucose tolerance test. Was supposed to do it 2 weeks ago, but it didn't go as planned. I was able to eat up until 15 minutes ago, so I technically only have to fast for 2 hours. Well, it turns into 3 hours when you add in the hour you wait after drinking the orange soda...yes, literally orange crush!!!

Kathy, I'm out of here tomorrow!!
I hate the day before you travel.
My mind is just all jumbled up trying to remember everything I have to do.
I have my list ready to go of what needs to be done yet today and tomorrow morning.
We're all checked -in - Flight/car rental/ even our first hotel is checked in.
At this point I just want to go!!!

I'll try to check-in tonight....Lord knows I won't be sleeping at all...

Happy Monday everyone!

Shawna~congrats on being on Disney's radar!! I wish we could get on.

Meghan~Lots of luck with your glucose test. I'm sure you'll fare better than I did with Chase. The three hour test is torture LOL

Red~have a safe trip!!

96 days til Disney. Just booked our before and after stay. We're doing a night at Daytona Beach to rest up after our long drive down before checking in to the Poly. After we check out, we'll hop over to DTD for the night before driving back home. I need to get serious about planning out our days. DH wants to go to Kennedy Space Center mid-week for his non-Disney break. I wish he was a Disney-crazy as the rest of us.

WOW so much going on here!! First of all Kim lots of prayers going out for you! I hope you are doing much better! Was following the updates on FB!!!! Hope you and the girls have a great Spring Break! We are on Spring Break too!! WOOT WOOT!!!

WOW look at those pictures Kim, that is insane!!! Time for Spring to come and for the sun to dry up all the water!!!!!

Meghan good luck with your glucose test and CONGRATS to Madison!! She looks just stunning!!!

Well birdies I bit the big one and started a new PTR for my spring/summer trips!! Jen's PTR!! If you are interested!!!!

Hope you are all have a great Monday!!!!

Meghan good luck with your glucose test and CONGRATS to Madison!! She looks just stunning!!!

Thanks! I did great!!!! It was a much different test than what I had to do with Madison. First of all, I didn't have to drink the disgusting orange stuff...just a can of orange soda. Then, it was just a finger prick!!! :yay: They tested my glucose and iron levels and they were perfect. They were in the range they were supposed to be in. The only bad thing is now my finger hurts.

Jen...I am headed over!!
Meg...glad it's over and it was perfect!
Went to Lowes and got my mulch, my local nursery for a few bags of soil, and took the kiddos to Chick fil A....and the rain came!!!! Not a lot,but everything got a good soaking..of course, I was gone and wanted to stick a few things out to have the pollen washed off, but i will do it with the hose!! Wanted to buy my hydrangeas to plant, but they only had little ones. I might wait, or go ahead and get them-can't decide, but my car was full of mulch bags and there was no room anyway. Now we are doing our :teacher:...we got behind on Friday too--Nana came in and of course, they can't concentrate with her here...so this will b a looooong school day!

Out and about this morning! Now i'm sitting down to relax before I try to clean this messy house. I took a trip to the outlets in Hershey so that I could stock up on some Disney shirts for the boys. I got some for Rylan but no such luck for Chase. They don't sell t-shirts small enough for him there. 2/3 is the smallest and he would just probably fit 24 mo.

Now . . . to search the internet for cute Mickey shirts for Chaser Man.

It's been a long day and I'm glad it's finally done! I had to jump on the DIS to see my ticker...after long days I remind myself that I'm working towards a trip to Disney! :goodvibes

This time change is kicking my tush. I'm exhausted before my day begins but for some reason am not the least bit tired at night. It's definitely effected the kids too. They've been super whiny and tired these past two days which makes me super whiny

Shelly/Red- Have a safe and wonderful trip!

Meghan- I'm hoping for good weather Saturday too. We're having a birthday party for Andrew and Emily. So far it looks like we're supposed to have mild temps and sunshine! :cool2:

Shawna- I can't wait to get dirty planting this spring! Be sure to share pics when you're finished- your gardens are always lovely! :flower3:

Mindy- Good luck finding shirts for your little guy!

Hey ladies!!! I too am feeling the whole Spring Foward backlash! Thankfully its Spring Break week!!

Yes, Shawna please post up some pictures of your garden!!! I would love to see them! I need some good ideas about what plants will grow well here in the soil we have in TX!!

Kim!! You are always so sweet about my plants! If I EVER get to it I will post pics!!had planned to work out in the beds all day today...but, life threw us a little curve. I have been dealing with sinus/allergy junk for a few days again...my throat has been killer...but this morning *gross alert*, I woke up and my left eye is blood red, super swollen and matted shut! Yucky, I know...it didn't stop throbbing and burning till after 6! so..I have been dealing with that and trying to do school. Also, my oldest one informed me that he has been up ALL night with a stomach virus!!!:scared1::sick: Poor baby! He didn't even ask me or dh for help! it was bad too...he had diarrhea and vomiting all night...and when he gets it, he hardly EVER throws up...but he made up for it lst night! he slept til 7 tonight!!
We have a Ortho appt tomorrow for his impressions for braces!!!! We can NOT miss this! I hope he is well and we don't have to cancel or it'll be at least 2-4 weeks before we can get back in!!!!

Jen....best thing for you to do is look around at your area nurseries...most anything they sell will grow in your area. Just drive around and look at good yards, see what you like...don't be afraid to ask people what plants they have if you just reaaaaally fall in love w it and can't figure out what's what. I would think my stuff would work for you-just ask a nursery person if you are in doubt. A shrub that is evergreen and spreads nicely is an Indian Hawthorne. They bloom white or pink and are just great little plants. Very hardy.Google it...I have several in my beds...they don't need babying either...so once you get them in watered and they are established you don't have to do anything to them...Lots of people use Japanese boxwood shrubs, but I didn't do them at this house because EVERYBODY does them!! I am not sure if that's the case in your area! Another good shruby plant is the plum delights...I have some in the back of my beds-they are my taller bushes and sort of the backdrop...they bloom really pretty pink flowers..and the actual leaves are a purplish color-hence the name plum. but....I think I am going to be taking them out and replacing them with Hydrangeas!!! The plum delights have to be pruned or they get wild and leggy...my Granny had hydrangeas and I always looooved them!! they are an old fashioned type plant that people havegotten away from, but they are mking a comeback! I planted a varigated leaf type 2 years ago and I love it! this is when I first planted it...its not a typical shape, and the leaves are varigated, but it blooms those big pretty mophead flowers!!

Something else, for your focal point is a Crepe Myrtle...again, my Granny had a huge one and I always loved it. I have planted them at every house we have lived in! I can't be without them!!! I have one in the front bed, and 3 in my 2 big beds by the pool. There are several diff types and colors...your local nursery will be a big help with this! Be bold and different! Find what you love to look at and it will make tending to it easier and a lot more fun! When you do your beds make sure you build them high enough!!! Get good soil...it's sometimes expensive, but worth it!
And for all of you...I have found the absolute BEST mulch to go on top! It's called Nature Scapes....geez louise!!! I have fallen in love with it!! It comes in Red, Black, and I think Brown. I personall love the Black...it really sets off any type of landscaping or colors you are wanting to notice. chokes out most of your weeds and holds in water without causing root rot.
If you have a sunny area, plant vincas for your small plants...they drop seeds and spread-and they love heat and sun. Pretty good for Texas!!! Also, if you like roses, get some Knock-Out Roses...I am told you can't kill them-mine survived our frosts and hard freezes this year.
If you have shade, put the hydrangeas there-morning sun, afternoon shade. Or for little bedding plants for color, do impatiens. They looove shady spots, or in pots on your porches...they are beautiful!!! Ok...that's all I can think of right now! LOL... I know in the night I will think of something else and think, Y didn't I tell her about this! If I can do my beds and have them thrive anyone can do it!!! the trick is don't overdo anything! I have found they like minimal attention...most things anyway. Things like ferns in hanging baskets are beautiful but they need soooo much water they always die on me. I am tooooo busy to worry about that much watering need for a plant! once you plant a bed, put the sprinkler on it and saturated it....skip a day unless it's scorching hot, then water it again.... I try to plant things when I know rain is on the way...then it's free!!! But after about 2 weeks, I just forget about it until they look dry or droopy...saturated again with a sprinkler....after that amount of time mine are rooted and doing well. Oh!! I know...Mexican heather,,it dies back in winter and comes back in spring...It's a beautiful green leaf with little purple flowers...low to the ground and just great! Also, Abelia. I think I spelled it right...it's a bright green and doesn't flower, but I am in loooove with these!!! Ok...that's all for the Southeast Texas Gardening Hour. LOL

Shawna I took notes, you'd be proud! Thank you for sharing some of your planting tips with me! I will definitely being doing some research and getting started!! I'm already ahead in the Crepe Myrtle dept. we have 3 of them in our yard and I love them!!!!

THANK YOU!!

Hope your son is feeling better today and the allergies leave you alone...bad allergies!!

Meghan- I'm hoping for good weather Saturday too. We're having a birthday party for Andrew and Emily. So far it looks like we're supposed to have mild temps and sunshine! :cool2:

They are predicting 46 degrees for Sunday...that's the day of our big St. Patrick's day parade!! Last year it was overcast, kind of drizzly and cold. Not a lot of fun.

:shamrock: Happy St. Patty's Day Snowbirds! :shamrock:

I'm avoiding laundry and wasting my naptime break on the computer today. :goodvibes Some days you just need to relax. I might even do a little digital scrapping if all goes well!

Shawna- Hope you are all feeling better soon! Love the Southeast Texas gardening hour  Now who is willing to host a Northeast MD living in the woods with tons of shade and no sun gardening hour? I'm so tired of hostas, impatiens and pachysandra. :headache:

Shelly/Red- Enjoy the warm FL sunshine and the first baseball game! :thumbsup2
