~Snowbird Chat 2~

Kim- So sorry to hear the news about Jason's dad. Many prayers and hugs go out to your family.

Kim, prayers and hugs to your family. :grouphug:
We are with you in spirit during this very difficult time.

Thanks for all the prayers everyone. I truly appreciate them. He passed peacefully last night a little after 7pm. Jason, his mom, his two brothers and sister stayed by his side through it all. It wasn't until they all stepped away last night that he let go. That's how he was though- always more concerned about everyone else rather than himself. Throughout all of his battle with cancer he tried protecting them from being hurt. We are blessed to have had him in our lives and to have made so many memories with him.

Good morning Snowbirds. Please send some prayers our way if you can. Our 14 1/2 year old dog is not doing so well. The kids are very upset, they've never known life without him. :sad1:

Shelly, I'm keeping you in my prayers. It's so difficult to lose a member of the family- furry or otherwise.

Hi Snowbirdies!!!

I'm baaaaack!! Brought home a lovely little cold with me and DH has some pain in his stomach and may be headed to the Dr. tomorrow. Other than that, we had a wonderful, busy trip!! The Dream is amazing and the spring break crowds were out in full force!! We saw lots of cars from Texas, Ontario and MN!

I hope that all of you who are ailing feel better soon. I read back through the posts - those of you who asked for prayers - you got them!

I plan on doing a TR, but it will be a few days until I get started. I'll let you all know of course.
Did about 3 loads of:laundy: today, so that's taken care of.
Happy Spring all! We actually had a lot of snow melt while we were gone, so we can actually see some of our yard!! I'm sure our winter's not over, and we will get more snow and of course, spring flooding, but at least it's not frigid cold anymore!
So glad you're home. I hope you and dh are feeling better soon.

I am so sorry for your loss, Kim.

We got the call a little past midnight for Jason's dad. They've unhooked all the monitors and machines and it's just a matter of time now. I'm glad we went to see him yesterday while he was still conscious. It was good for Jason to see him one last time and talk with him. We are thankful that he isn't in pain. It's been a long and stressful night. This is so much harder than I ever imagined it could be. Jason is still at the hospital with his family. I got Andrew off to school and I'm trying to keep a happy face for Em. We decided to keep things as normal as possible for them. Please keep us in your prayers today. We could really use them.

Oh Shelly! I am soooo sorry!! We will be praying for your family and your dog!!

Prayers for your family and your dog, Shelly.

Thanks so much for your prayers everyone. :grouphug: Things got worse on Sunday and we unfortunately had to make that very tough decicion to let him go to Heaven. It has been a very rough time for us. This is probably the worst thing we have gone through as a family. Of course DH & I have experienced bad things and loss in our lives at our age, but the kids really haven't. He has always been here. I was 23 when I got him, so it was before I was even married to DH. I've pretty much had him my entire adult life and it is so weird to not see him walking around the house and not hear his toenails on the hard kitchen floor. :sad1: I am still a mess. The kids are doing fairly well today. They have their video games and other things to keep them distracted. But they have their moments. We didn't have school yesterday, we were still on spring break. I let them stay home today, but I think they will probably go tomorrow. We can definitely still use your prayers.

I am so sorry Kim. I'm glad it was peaceful and they got to spend that time with him. I will be praying for your family during this difficult time.

Welcome back Sheree. I can't wait to hear all about your trip. I could definitely use a distraction from real life right now.

Kim - So glad that he went peacefully and the family had chance to be with him. You're in my prayers.

Shelly - Oh, my, I'm so sorry. It must feel like losing a child to have had your dog for so long! Prayers for you too!

I'm wishing I was still in WDW - the weather here stinks. Rain and getting colder this week! I have been unpacking the "stuff" and trying to find a place for it all to go! Looking at the pictures I bought on the cruise and got from the BBB and the Princess dinner - Oh, it just helps make me feel warm and fuzzy!

I think I'll try to get my pictures sorted/uploaded and start a TR soon - probably over the weekend. I'll post a link once I get going.

Oh Shelly...I am sorry....we will continue to pray for your family. I know it's got to be weird without him...It made me wonder what it'll be like when we lose our dog! She was a stray,so we don't know for sure how old she is...vet assumed she was around 2 yo when we got her...she had a litter when she was found...we have had her for over 4 years,so hopefully we have a long time left with her....my older son is very, very attached to her...

Thanks Sheree. It is a huge loss for our family. Our house feels empty. I'm sure time will lessen the hurt, but right now it sure doesn't feel that way. :sad2:

Thanks Shawna. You never think about things like this when you get a pet. We have been trying to prepare ourselves and the kids over the past couple of years, just knowing his age. But there really is no preparing for it. I hope you have many more years with your doggy. I know what you mean, my oldest was very close with ours.

Shelly, hugs and prayers to your family as well. :grouphug:
Pets truly are members of the family.

Kim - so sorry for your family's loss. I hope time and your memories comfort you.

Shelley - sorry for your loss as well. I remember reading Rabbi Marc Geller's commentary that one should be grateful for grief, for it proves that we are able to love and receive love. Who would ever choose the alternative to grief, which is never to know the love of a pet?

On a happier note - I'm back from London, and had a great time! Went to the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, British Museum, Victoria & Albert Museum, Big Ben, Picadilly, Covent Garden, West End - and we never really felt rushed or over-scheduled!

Can't wait to go back and see what I've missed!

what an awesome quote!! I love that thought, it is so very true!! Give us all the nitty gritty details about London!! I am dying to get over there!!!! Also, what would you think about it as a family trip...I want to take the kids so bad!

Kim - Praying for peace during this time.

Shelly - Praying for you guys too.

I'm back now from my trip to FL. Came home to snow/rain/sleet/thunder/lightning...yep all at once basically. Thank you mother nature for saving that for me. Thank you.

Shelly- I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. We had to put one of our cats to sleep in December 09 and she was only 4 years old (she was using the entire house as a litter box and losing weight). We couldn't bear to tell Madison (it was Christmas Eve), so she thinks that we sent her somewhere to get better and someone else would take her home. I know, I know....we shouldn't have made up a story like that, but she's the most sensitive little thing. Losing a pet is truly like losing a member of the family. You guys are in my prayers.

Shelley-I am so sorry that you had to put your dog down :( It's so hard to lose a treasured member of your family.

Not a very lovely day here in PA. It's rainy and cold. We actually had a layer of sleet on the deck when I got up. I am waiting for some warmer weather so I can get outside and get moving. I still have about 17 lbs to go and it's not going to happen just doing Zumba in my family room.

I think it would be a phenomenal family trip! There's modern fun stuff (video games/arcade at the Trocadero in Piccadilly) and of course all the history. We went to two museums, the British Museum and the Victoria & Albert Museum, and both had activities & scavenger hunts for the kids. The British Museum is a lot of archaeology - the Rosetta Stone is there, with Egyptology and mummies, Eastern & Islamic art, etc. And if you can get them to read a little about the Tower of London - what kid couldn't get excited about that prison? If you go to the Tower, make sure you take the tour with the Yeoman Warders (otherwise known as "Beefeaters"); they are a riot! Poets' Corner in Westminster is amazing; Lewis Carroll is either buried there or has a memorial there - I can't remember which. Charles Dickens, Chaucer, Robert Browning, Laurence Olivier. There's a memorial to Newton, Darwin's there, as is Elizabeth I and Mary I (in the same crypt! :scared1:). And if you watch the Royal Wedding, you'll be able to show your kids where it happened. The history is just amazing, even just the off-hand, "This is the third building on this site. It was built in 1427" type thing. And of course kids will adore the fact that the cars go on the wrong side of the road!

We used Rick Steves' guide to London, which was excellent. I'm sure there are guidebooks geared towards kids as well. Certainly worth it, and a bit easier than the rest of Europe since language is not an issue.
