~Snowbird Chat 2~

Hey birdies! Hope ya'll are all safe in this nasty weather!! When I woke up this morning it was raining sideways in sheets!!! The wind is crazy!! all the streets and yards are FULL of water...it'll drain, but geez...I know you are all hoping you don't lose power...hopefully the ice won't be that bad for ya'll...our highs this week should only be high 20s or 30s...it'll be our coldest/worst weather week of the winter. I know ya'll hate to hear that:rotfl:
I started taking Echinacea Friday night for the sinus that was flaring up--it's still here, but I don't feel terrible all over, or so exhausted I can't do anything like I usually get with it...so if ya'll havent tried it for your sniffles I highly recommend it. Also, I am gonna start Goldenseal-it's supposed to kill the actual infection, once it gets to that point. And I think I am there..full blown sinus, not just a scratchy throat. I will let you know if it hlps if I get any. Wonder how mny people decided to skip out on traveling down here for the Superbowl Sunday?

Good morning Snowbirds!

We got some snow (very little) and ice through the night. We actually cancelled school for today, and we NEVER cancel. So it must be worse than it looks out there. We are to get more ice/snow throughout today and tomorrow. I'm with the rest of you -- just hoping to not lose power during this storm.

Stay safe and warm everyone! :goodvibes

The snow hasn't started here yet, but I know it's coming! I'm very happy that once I pick Madison up from school at 3pm, we have nowhere else to go tonight. Tony however has one of his grad classes tonight. I think I've already told him at least 4 times to be careful coming home tonight! I plan on making some turkey chili tonight and I'm already looking forward to it. I've never made it before but it sounds so delicious. I made sure to go grocery shopping today (I usually go on Wednesdays) so we have plenty of food.

Stay safe, Snowbirds! I suspect that Ry won't have school again tomorrow. It looks awfully slick out there already.

I hope that we don't lose power. Ive charged all of my iDevices and hand held games just in case. Flashlights are ready, as are the peanut butter and jelly :)

We lost power three years ago due to ice. DH was out of town and it was just me and Ry. He and I huddled together in the family room around the gas fireplace. It was awful!
He and I did a lot of bonding those few days LOL

Feel better soon Shawna!

We had no school today too and tomorrow isn't looking too promising. These poor kids are going to be in school until the end of June at this rate. :headache:

I bet Madison is thrilled! Enjoy sleeping in and spending the day relaxing!

I charged my cell and flash lights and made sure we had PB&J on hand too! We also made rice crispy treats today just in case we need some junk food to get us through ;)

WOW!!! Sure sounds like some of my friends are in for a good ole winter storm!!!:scared1: Stay warm everyone!!! I will be thinking warm thoughts for all of you! :goodvibes Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow despite the weather! Stay inside and be warm!!! Lots of time for Disney Movies and Dissing!!! Hopefully no lost power though...:rolleyes1

Hugs to all

Hey girls! well,....after the rain stopped that's when the temps changed...we dropped 24 or 25 degrees in 17 minutes!!! Can you believe that? They were wondering why the house was so cold and I forgot I had opened the windows in my room when I was changing my sheets!!! I like to do that just to get fresh air in there...then I went up to the school room with the kids to do school and forgot!!! MAN!!! Was is cold downstairs!! We are still hovering at 30 right now....should get down in the 20s tonight and the roads are gonna be icy and bad Th afternoon and Friday...YUCK!!! I hope none of you lose electricity tonight!!!

Well, the other U in town has closed for tomorrow. The community college has, the public schools have... the public library, local stores, the courts, the other two branches of my U ... you get the idea. All closed tomorrow.

But my U? Nope. No way; no how. They say "the residence halls don't close!" Well, there are close to 50k staff members. I suspect that we don't all work in the residence halls. Oh well. I may just say "forget this!" and go back to bed tomorrow, depending on how much snow we got and how cold it is. The wind is REALLY howling right now!!

... I fly out on Friday - fingers crossed!!! (Should be fine. Snow stops tomorrow!) Talk about great timing. Can I just say that I have NEVER EVER been more excited for a mid-week snow storm in my life?! better today/tonight than Thursday/Thursday night!!

The schools around here already go until the end of June! :laughing:Our last day is like June 21st or something like that. However, we have had NO snow days yet this year. We just had a 2 hour delay last Monday. Even when I lived in Syracuse (which gets WAY more snow than Buffalo), we never added days onto the school year. I guess they always "build in" extra days or something like that. A few districts around here will take a few extra days off in the Spring if they don't use all their snow days. I wish!

Speaking of snow days.....I believe that every single district in Western New York is now closed tomorrow. And believe it or not, most of the colleges have too! That almost NEVER happens! Sometimes the community colleges will close (due to the number of commuters), but the big universities never do. I'm sure glad I went grocery shopping early this morning and avoided all of the craziness.

Woke up to a thick glaze of ice this morning. It's amazing how something so beautiful can be so dangerous. We, thankfully, still have power. DH had a fall on his way outside to pull his windshield wipers up prior to the real ice storm. Too bad there is not room in the garage for his poor car. . . . He had to have that Corvette.

Ugh! Ice is SO much worse than snow!!

We got about 6 inches of snow overnight and they're saying there's a few more inches coming. The wind was AMAZING overnight and I had a hard time sleeping. My husband and I (and probably most of the staff) are playing hooky today. i think we're going to pack for Disney!

Never mind, answer to my question found!

Woke up a little disappointed today. Really wanted to see a mountain of snow outside. Tony still had to go to work, but at least the roads were clear for him! Most of Buffalo decided to close yesterday, so no one is really out and about. Around 6am, I did hear some sleet/freezing rain, so the roads are definately not in good shape today.

I'm very happy that I have nowhere to go today and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the snow decides to pick up again later. I would love it if the dance studio closed tonight! I could use a week off. I have some :laundy: to do today and then I think Maddie and I will make banana bread (from a box, not from scratch).

Well we didn't get ANY snow last night. Not a bit. We did get freezing rain which turned into a slushy mess eventually. We only had a 2 hour delay.

We have a Friday & Monday off in the middle of February (Winter break), so we will likely make up yesterday on one of those days. That's what they normally do anyway, we never tack it on to the end of the year.

I didn't get called into work, so I guess it's laundry, cleaning, and DISing today. I've been stalking the airfare but neither SW or AT have released their rates for my dates yet. . . :surfweb:

I've been watchin both AT and SW in hopes that the fares come down. Here is no way I'm willing to pay $2k to fly from Harrisburg to MCO. We've been able to fly for $200/pp in the past. We are perfectly content to drive if it means saving $1500. Sick thing is, I kind of enjoy the drive. Call me sentimental. It reminds memof the many driving trips down as a kid. Nothing says Disney like seeing all of the South of The Border signs.

Wow that airfare is ridiculous Mindy! :scared1: We usually get flights for about $79-$89 each way. You could drive over here and fly down! :rotfl:

From what I am seeing though the average price for the dates they have out in August this year are about $114 each way. I sure hope ours are not that high when they finally come out.

That's good that you enjoy the drive down. I don't think I could handle it. I can't sit still that long!! :rotfl:

It's completely ridiculous. We typically fly Airtran right out if Harrisburg and the flights are usually $92 each way. I've found flights down as low as $114 which would be doable. They are currently $145 down and $265 (or something) back. Even shifting the dates does nothing. Prices out of Baltimore or SW are about the same for our dates.

We'll just load the boys up around bedtime and hopefully they'll sleep most of the way. We'll pull into the Winter Springs area just before lunch where we will stay for a night. We have family there. Up early the next morning to head to Disney!!

Morning Birdies!

Well, only got about an inch of snow here, which actually all blew off the driveway!! We were on the very northern edge of the storm. Funny thing, my city is in 3 different counties. My section of town only had a winter advisory, while the other two (which really is barely 2 miles away) had blizzard warnings! It was very nice of the storm to know not to cross that line!:rotfl: And now the sun is out...to bad it's 1 with the windchill....

No work for me today or tomorrow. Doing some much needed laundry and cleaning...

Have a great day everyone, be safe!

I've been stalking the airfare but neither SW or AT have released their rates for my dates yet. . . :surfweb:

I am daily stalking airfare too!!! :lmao: I don't expect to see anything great out of MSP until at least early april! We are hoping for the early flight out on Delta but will take Sun Country or Airtran depending on who has the best deal!! We loved Sun Country for our flights last year but we REALLY want that 7am flight out of MSP this time - more time to enjoy the Poly!!! :cool1: Right now our chosen flights are sitting at $360USD pp return!!! :scared1: Even with our Canadian dollar doing so well - that is still waaaaayyy too much to pay!!

SHEREE - When did you guys get your fares for your July trip last year?? :)

Is it ridiculous that I haven't wanted to get on here the last few days? I'm guessing it's because we don't have a definate trip planned?! Who knows! I guess it's the post-Disney depression setting in. Even though we are penciling in a trip next Jan or Feb, who knows what could happen between now and then!

Well the meteorologists were way off with the warnings in our area. Blizzard warnings and Storm of the Century references...we were supposed to het 1/2 inch of ice and 6-12 inches of snow from Mon to Wed. I went to work (unlike most people in my office Monday, drove home in the rain-no big deal. Woke up Tues and debated, went ahead and called out because MoDOT was saying Stay Home (who was I to argue). A few minutes later I could hear the ice hitting the windows and it went on all day! but barely any snow!! When we measured, it looks like about 3 inches if ice with about 1/2 inch snow on top of it. We haven't left the house since I got home Mon eve. Schools out for Drew again, which surprised me sincethey don't have busses. His last day is May 25, but we'll see what it's gonna be now!
