~Snowbird Chat 2~

HEY SNOWBIRDS!!!!!

Just thought I would drop in and say a quick hello! :goodvibes We are having a crazy hot summer up here in Northwestern Ontario and pretty much right across Canada too! :faint: I am so incredibly thankful for air conditioning! :cool1: we have been averaging about 86 F almost every day for the last 2 weeks! It is supposed to continue like this for at least another 2 weeks! Haven't had this hot of a summer up here for quite a while!

For those of you "in the know", I am doing VERY well! God is so good! I was offered a job 2 days a week in our church and I am absolutely LOVING it!!!!! I work in the main office on Tuesdays and then on Wednesdays I am the assistant to our Children's pastor! Our situation remains the same, but I continue to stay strong and hopeful! I am so incredibly thankful for all the amazing blessings that God has bestowed on me and my children in the last 15 months!

I think of you all so often! Miss hangin' out with y'all! I have no concrete plans for a Disney trip at any time in the very near future but I am keeping my fingers crossed that something might work out in the next year or so! ;) The girls are just itching to get back there and to tell you the truth, so am I!

Hope everybody is doing well! Love and Hugs to all of my Snowbird pals! :goodvibes

Kim... so happy things are better for you!!! The job sounds wonderful!!

MaggieD - I think there are some people from Scotland staying where I'm staying at the moment. Let me ask around, if that's okay, and I'll get back to you :)

That would be great!!! Thank you!!!!

Kim - so glad things are going better for you. Glad to hear about the job! I love helping our children's minister out.

Can you believe we're already halfway through July? Madison has been keeping us busy.....she had a Gifted & Talented camp the last week in June, she has band lessons twice a week throughout July, plays soccer once a week with practice once a week, Irish dance started last week with class once a week, this Wed-Fri she has an Irish dance boot camp....I think that's about it. I can't keep up with everything!!!

Meghan - do you ever have time to sleep?!?! :) That is one busy schedule!

Hey girls, just wanted to say hey and that I have started the Christmas shopping thread again! I was going to wait until next Wed at the 5 month mark, but, someone asked me if I would go ahead and start,so we did! Come on over and talk about the Holidays with me!http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2958525

I'm there! :thumbsup2

Hey Meghan - just curious - what VBS did your church do this year? We just did Daniel's Bravery in Babylon. It was phenomenal!!! The kids had a blast! :cool1:

We did Sky and it was awesome! I posted a picture on my FB last week of what our stage looked like. It was fantastic! We go all out and the planning is already in the works for next year. We had over 400 kids come through our doors and it is 100% free for everyone. That takes a lot of work and over 150 volunteers. I love my church!!!

Speaking of VBS....there was one very special little boy that I cannot stop thinking about. His parents are going through a separation/divorce and he is one very confused little boy (he's only 7 years old). Mom is telling him that Jesus loves him, his friends and family love him, etc. while Dad is telling him that church is a cult, God doesn't exist and no one loves him. This poor little boy!!! We were wondering why he was acting up so much the first few days and then we found out why. My heart just breaks for this little guy, but we made sure we showed him SO much love last week and gave him the attention he really needs. On Friday, I took him into our room where we store our game supplies and loaded his little pockets with our leftover treats (our crew on games gives prizes out each day...this year it was cocoa pebble treats). I showed him all of the cool supplies that we have, thanked him for coming to VBS and told him how much fun I had with him. He gave me a great big hug and I just melted. I can't stop thinking about that sweet little guy.

Meghan~ That is awesome that y'all were able to minister to that little boy!! I know when I was working with the 4-6th grade boys, and even when I was in nursery/pre-K when mine were that age, there would always be one in the group who would tug at my heart! I know the Lord wants us to really minister to and lift up those little kids in a special way--they need something above and beyond that the other kids don't always need at that time. What a blessing you got to show him the Love of Christ--I will remember him in prayer, and know that the Lord will bless y'alls efforts, and the things that his mom is trying to instill-no matter what the dad is trying to do!

Good morning everyone!

Well for my trip in Jan. we are past the 180 day mark, but haven't made any dining reservations yet. Park hours are posted but we can't find extra magic hours. We are only planning on doing a couple ressies anyway so it shouldn't be a huge deal.

In other news, my grandma was admitted to the hospital last night. She had been having problems breathing, took her to the doctor yesterday then they sent her to the hospital. Doctors feel we are dealing with heart failure/the end here. So our family is just praying for no pain/suffering. We know this is coming, the woman is 98 (her 99 birthday is Aug 4).

I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful weekend!!

98 years! That's amazing. We'll be thinking of you and your family and keeping you in our prayers.

Our VBS this year was Sonrise....our set, too, was amazing. With being home, I spent a lot of time with our Children's Minister helping out this year. I absolutely loved it! It was a lot of hard work and late nights, but so worth it seeing the faces of those kids coming through those doors. The week of our VBS was the same week as every other VBS in our area, so even with that we had over 150 kids come through our doors (there was a huge VBS that was a combination of 4 different churches that was held in one of our elementary schools). I can't wait until next year!

VBS has been over for a week now and I still think about this little boy every single day. He's such a cutie pie too! I was hoping to see him at church on Sunday, but he wasn't there. The Sunday after VBS is always awesome. We keep up our big elaborate set and the kids get to sit on the floor in front of the stage. They show the opening show and sing all of the VBS songs (complete with the motions). We then did a shortened version/recap of VBS back in KidZone (our K-4th grade worship room). A lot of the kids who attend VBS do not attend our church, but many of them still come the Sunday after to relive the fun (and bring their parents).

Good morning everyone!

Prayers to your grandmother! She's lived a great life I'm sure....98 years!! My grandmother passed away at 86 and I find that amazing too.

Most of the churches in our area are doing Sky this year too. We get our materials from Group (that's the name of the company....www.group.com) but we tweak things a little bit. For example, we almost never use the games that come in the leader packet. They just don't work for the amount of kids we have. They're inside all day except for their 30 minutes of games. We like to get them running around and we use TONS of water balloons!

We did Sky too and it was awesome! :goodvibes Even DS13 got to go and work with the preschoolers and it was a great experience for him.

I'll be praying for that little boy. What a blessing VBS was for him I'm sure.

Keeping your family in my prayers. What a wonderful life! I know how much you will miss her when she's gone.

I just read on another thread that they are shortening EMH to 2 hours in the evenings starting in 2013, and that may be why it's not posted. Bummer, since the parks aren't typically open as late in Jan/Feb anyway. Good luck with your ADR planning.

Thinking of you and keeping Grandma and your family in our prayers.

crzyred - I am sorry about your grandmother, I'm thinking of you and your family.

MaggieD - I haven't forgotten about you, and should have some recommendations by tomorrow or Tuesday!

It's very busy and chaotic over here, but I'm having a wonderful time (I can tell by the blisters all over my feet!). Everywhere is very heavily locked down security wise and over the past few days, the security helicopters have been practicing.

Today they were practicing around the parks. I went to see Matilda the Musical earlier this week (based upon the book by Roald Dahl), and that was wonderful. The composer of the show was sitting three rows behind me. Today, I went to see The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe in a 360 degree theatre - it was quite well done, very creative.

Apparently, Mick Jagger is in town, not too far from where I'm staying, as are two other big names but I can't remember for the life of me who they are (although, for some reason, Halle Berry is ringing a bell). I've got just over 3 weeks until I return home.

Congrats on the new job! I'm so happy for you! Glad to hear you and the girls are doing so well and I will continue to keep all of you in my prayers!

Hello everyone! I have been absent around the DIS lately and it's because we've been so busy!!! Last week was VBS week at church and I'm now one of the 3 main leaders in the games department. Well, last week had to be THE hottest week we've had all summer. Hello sunburn!!! Even though it was a tiring week it was a great week. We had over 400 kids (not all on one day, but over the course of the week we had 400 different kids) and they all had a great time.

Can you believe we're already halfway through July? I think I need a nap after reading about all that you are doing these days!

Let me get through the back to school shopping first. :lmao: I don't even want to think about Christmas yet!
