Snow to 80 in 8 days–A spoonful of Holiday Cheer (2/5 update Ch 36 - Final Thoughts)

I'm guessing you can go ahead with your gut on this one! Your initial impression will probably prove true! :lmao:

Okay! But make sure Rosie, Kathy, Dan, Tim and Glenn know I'm only holding back at your request!

I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt;). However, I'm thinking that you're right about my initial impression. I'll leave you to guess what that is...

I'll take the heat then for your lack of updates, since you *claim* you're going to hold back for me while I'm at Disney. Just to clarify, these updates need to be back in full force once I return. Ok?

I think you should know too that are reports circulating that you are *ahem*, a tad slow on your updates. So far, since I've joined in, I've not noticed that. However, I'm going to Disney in 2 weeks so if you could try to postpone any updates till after I get back, that'd be great!

That may not be as hard as you think, Molly. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

That's fine Molly, as long as you aren't doubting my benefits!!! :rotfl2:

And I can't make any promises about no TR updates while you are gone. It might be my only opportunity to have a reader who is actually BEHIND on here!!! ;)

That may not be as hard as you think, Molly. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

:laughing:That seems to be the concensus around here!

Ya, your track record isn't really helping you any Marv:laughing:! But that's ok by me, I don't mind catching up. I'll only be gone for 9 days sooooo, that's like what, 1/2 an update I'll be behind?;) Maybe 3/4??

Oh yuk, yuk, yuk!!! :sad2:

Boy Molly, apparently you aren't very selective on who you let influence your thinking....... :rolleyes1

Just popping in to see if Marv has done an update but alas NO!!!! Oh that's right he has till February!!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

/
Cool, yet another vote that I slow down on this TR!!!

Still, there is no way I can drag this out as long as a Liesa report...... :rotfl:

nice update marve but what is this 7 layer bar thing you speak of, must be a southern dish.
:confused3

ive heard of seven layer salad:thumbsup2

so I decided to make it a two-parter! I guess I should have put "To Be Continued...." at the end of the latest update to make sure everyone comes back, like they do on TV! :rotfl2:

yeah but the problem with that is sometimes those shows get canceled before you find out what the continue was that you were waiting for.
:rolleyes1

Well Dan, I know you are hoping this is a very tall tavern where they serve a different type of beer at each "bar" ;) but this is actually a "sweet" that would maybe be loosely lumped in the brownie/cookie category. They are so easy to make that I'm guessing even you could pull it off! :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

The 7 layers are butter or margarine (which is melted in the bottom of a pan) to which is added in this order graham cracker crumbs (when combined with the melted butter creates the bottom layer of "crust"), semi sweet morsels, butterscotch morsels, flaked coconut, chopped pecans and then over the whole thing you pour a can of eagle brand sweetened condensed milk which cooks all through the whole concoction and holds it all together. After baking, you allow this addictive creation of sweet delight :goodvibes to cool and cut into bars like you would fudge or brownies!!! 7 ingredients, therefore 7 layers!

I guess the good news is that around here, you typically don't get your "show" cancelled, but unless you are one of a chosen few who seem to be able to drag things out endlessly with no ill effects,:confused3 you just might lose all your readership! :sad2: Guess I better get to work soon!!! :rolleyes1

Boy Molly, apparently you aren't very selective on who you let influence your thinking....... :rolleyes1

Yes, I'm prone to giving in to peer pressure! Good grief, it's high school all over again! "Kathy said that Tim said that Marv said that Molly told me...blah blah blah!" Ugh, the flashbacks, it's 1991!

That recipe for 7 layer bars is the exact one I have too, I think I need to run to the store and whip up a batch pronto! They really are delicious but dangerous...they look small and thin so you think hey, I'll have another and another and maybe just one more. Before you know it, you've eaten half the pan! Which is why I don't make them often!

I would love the recipe for those 7 layer thingies !!Like amounts and bake time !!!Now if I asked my DMIL God rest her soul she would have told me just add what looks right and cook it till it's done !!!!!:rotfl2:She's the one who told me to cook Beets til they were done but DON"T prick'em!!!!:lmao:Ma would that be 10 mins or 3 days !!!!:confused3:rotfl::rotfl:

:lmao: That's funny, until I think about the fact that you and Tim are the only two in that list that think 1990's when you flashback to high school!!! :sad2:

To be honest, I really can't eat very many of them, especially right after I make them. It must have something to do with all of those choc and butterscotch morsels and pecans that fall out of the cup when I'm putting it together, and the condensed milk that won't pour out of the can........:rolleyes1

I could speed it up, but then my trip would be "over" that much sooner. I could also speed it up if I weren't in the middle of yet another big move. We stars only have so much time in a day, ya know. :lmao:

Now Rosie's adding ninja posting to her vast repertoire!!!

:lmao: Sounds like your Mom cooked like my Mom most of the time!

I will double check the recipe for temperature, but if I remember correctly it is as follows:

2/3 stick of butter (or margarine, but I prefer the butter - the recipe actually says it in tablespoons - 5 and 1/3 maybe, but I know you can get three batches from 2 sticks)
Preheat oven to 350 degf (have to check, it might be 325)
Melt butter in 13x9 pan while oven is preheating
(When butter is melted, I usually shake it around in the pan and try to get it as even as possible) Then quickly sprinkle in one cup of graham cracker crumbs, making sure they are also spread evenly on the bottom of the pan
Then in order, add one cup EACH of semi-sweet morsels, butterscotch morsels (I usually combine the two in a container and shake them up so they are mixed a little more evenly), Baker's flaked coconut and chopped pecans. Then pour a can of Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk over the top. I start right along the edge of the pan because if you get the edges cooked right you are pretty certain that the whole thing will be cooked and hold together pretty well. Have a scraper handy because you will pretty much need every drop you can get out of the can.

Bake for 30 minutes. Adjust time a little shorter if you use a dark/teflon pan instead of aluminum or glass, and also depending on your stove (as in my Mom's) :rolleyes1 and where you are versus sea level (as you would for pretty much anything else). I usually check them at about 25 minutes to see if the middle is starting to get slightly brown, which is when I take them out.

Loosen edges when you remove from stove. Let them cool in the pan, then slice and serve.

As you can tell by suggestions about the butter, graham cracker crumbs, distribution of the morsels and pouring the condensed milk, I am very OCD about how I make them. I've had some I don't think were done with as much TLC and they just don't taste the same to me. :rolleyes1 I'm actually sharing my little secrets right here for the first time just for you Rosie!!! :goodvibes

You're so vain! I bet you think that post was about you, you're so vain! I bet you think that post was about you, don't you, don't you???? :lmao:

I would think someone who has their own paparazzi following them around DHS taking their pictures for them would also have a bank of writers to pump out their TR updates for them, not to mention hordes of minions willing to pack and unpack all those boxes!!!! :rolleyes1 After all, there are SEVEN of YOU!!! ;)

(Love you Liesa!!!) :flower3:

Jumping right into the fray - good for you!

good one Rosie! And I will be back in February so I won't be behind! :cool1:

Still, there is no way I can drag this out as long as a Liesa report...... :rotfl:

I know - I was 169 pages behind in her report and when I caught up she has just gotten to WDW! :rotfl: (Love you and all the info and banter Liesa!)

I could speed it up, but then my trip would be "over" that much sooner. I could also speed it up if I weren't in the middle of yet another big move. We stars only have so much time in a day, ya know. :lmao:

There are 7 of you! Cracking up at my desk but not too loudly do I don't have to try to explain what I am laughing at!

ah nuts i thought it was a new type of bar you discovered in the south.

actually those sound pretty good.

and it seem like a suprise to you, but i actually can cook pretty good.
i was even going to go to culinary school, but if you want to work in the nice fancy places in the big cities, you have to work pretty late at those, and that didnt appeal to me.

so i stick with the cooking at home, candi enjoys cooking, but i usually do about 80% of the dinners at home:thumbsup2

very true, i have my readers that i have kept from the begining on mine but alot have come and gone from the begining. mostly gone, or they lurk, but i do appreciate all the readers and the comments that people say:thumbsup2

i think alot of people like it when you update every day or every other day, i just dont have the time to write that often and cant keep that pace up. especially with the amount of TR that you sub to, its hard to keep up with those and write on your own

but it seems to happen on alot of peoples reports, alot of people join in the first few chapters then either fade away or just lurk the rest of the way out.

its okay i dont mind, i enjoy remembering the trip and if i get to remember it a few months longer than a normal TR length

Make that two readers who will be behind - I leave in 5 days!
You do realize they recently added internet service in Florida don't you??? :rolleyes1
Jumping right into the fray - good for you!
Oh, well thanks for encouraging her!!!

I'm gonna need a whole lot more readers and banter to come anywhere close to that record!!! :rotfl2:
There are 7 of you! Cracking up at my desk but not too loudly do I don't have to try to explain what I am laughing at!
:)
Thanks for the recipe Marv !!! I am copying it down now !!!!
You do know you can copy the part you need, paste it into a blank word document and then print it out don't you???? :confused3 I would hate for you to leave out a step and end up melting the chocolate and butterscotch morsels in the bottom of the pan while the oven is preheating!!! :lmao:
actually those sound pretty good.
You'll have to try them sometime! They are very easy and oh so addictive!!!

Cool! I learned a lot from watching my Mom and asking questions, then trial and error! I can cook quite a few things, but certain items are my specialty! I am the pancake chef at our house, and I cooked all of the chinese meals when we used to do stir fry often! Maybe not any culinary masterpieces, but I can cook enough to put some decent meals on the table!:thumbsup2

True Dat! :)
its okay i dont mind, i enjoy remembering the trip and if i get to remember it a few months longer than a normal TR length
I think that is true for most of us! We enjoy all of the readers and comments, but pretty much we all write them for our own pleasure so we can relive the experience! Plus you often get to meet some really nice people around here while you're doing it!!! :woohoo:
