Anyone having problems in NJ (or any other area) with not getting mail? I live in Monmouth County, NJ in a townhome development where we share a mailbox. The guys who work for the development shoveled a path to the mailbox but not behind it where our mailman drops off the mail.

Haven't had any mail since Saturday! And I'm waiting for my paycheck!!

How do I get my mail? Call the post office? Been trying all morning but it's been busy, assuming LOTS of people having the same problem... :confused3

I don't live in NJ but last year when we had our big blizzard in Virginia, we had the same issues.

You can go up to the post office and they should be able to get your mail for you. A lot of people were doing that here. It is probably best to call first.

1) Get out your shovel and open the area so the mailman can get to the back of the mailbox.

2) Drive to the PO and pick up your mail.

3) Fill out direct deposit forms.

We haven't gotten any mail since last Friday either ... then again there was no way for the poor mailman to get down my street ... I would keep trying to call the Post Office, (but as you said, I'm sure everybody else is trying too) ... if they are not delivering the mail, maybe they will allow us to pick it up at the post office? ... sorry I couldn't be of anymore help ...

I keep calling and it's busy or no one answers. I would gladly drive down to pick it up.

If I was physically able I would shovel it however, I am not and furthermore, the way the workers shoveled/plowed the area they made 10 foot piles of snow around the mailbox so it's virtually impossible.

And direct deposit is not available or I would have it.

The post won't be delivered if there isn't access to the mail box. This is something we deal with every winter. If we don't shovel out our mailbox, the mail person simply drives by the box. I would call your association and get them to shovel out where the mailman needs to go or you won't get mail until it is.

Duh, didn't think to call the association! I'm a renter so I would probably have to call my landlord to call the association. I'm sure my neighbors probably have already because they were freaking out yesterday about no mail.

Thanks!

Even though your carrier can't safely deliver your mail - so can't reasonably be expected TO deliver it - it's being sorted daily. If you can get to the main post office (only), you should be able to pick it up.

And call the condo association yourself first.

we had issues a few years ago when we had a massive storm but hubby personally plowed the boxes ( at least a 75 foot stretch between 2 houses) to the cement because he was waiting on a huge check.... Of course, the mail man drove right by. :confused3. Hubby called to complain and the post office said that if we weren't receiving mail then the postman must have decided that it wasn't plowed out enough and that it was at the digression of the driver whether or not it was passable. We went out and and took pictures and went to get our mail at the office. we were told it was fine now and we must have just plowed it. the next day my neighbor sat in her house and video taped the mailman driving by at least 10 plowed boxes including ours ( which still had absolutely no snow and was down to the dirt....) we called to complain and the manager personally come down to see the video and brought us all our mail.. we never saw that driver again...

wow tigger!

I definitey know it's not our mailman because I can see there is no way he can get to the mailbox.

Hoping to just get to the post office tomorrow when I'm off to get my mail (and paycheck!).

I'm in Monmouth County too. We haven't had mail this week yet either. Our roads are just getting to the point of being okay to drive on. I wouldn't expect the post office to send out mail carriers when everyone else is having such a hard time getting around.

took my bf four hours to drive from where we live near monmouth mall to bradley beach and back to drop off his son!

A mailman does not have to deliver to a box that is inaccessible. Nor, do they have to deliver when there is a dog which may potentially bite.

Don't assume everyone else called. They may be thinking the same thing as you, or also hasn't thought to call. Be proactive.
