Snow Pictures

Snow Dogs! Not the best pictures in the world, but at least I remembered to grab a camera for a bit this time!

My dog (a Jack Russell Terrier) loves leaping through the snow

Too much stuff going on to look for a picture!

Havent visited the DIS in quite a while, and since then I have got a new dslr, so now I will be posting here more often. Here are some snow pics taken these past few days here in denver.

For this shot I could not grab my camera fast enough. I opened the shades on the back window this morning. We are getting a fresh covering of beautiful white stuff when I noticed a couple of flake stuck to the window. To my surprise I saw this tiny flake that had perfect form. It was only about 3-4 mm in diameter so I had to grab my Macro. Wait I don't have a Macro. So I grabbed my Lensbaby and added some of the Macro attachments. I was able to get in pretty close with those and snap a couple of shots. Luckily too, because I only got 5 shots when a gust of wind blew it away. Hope you enjoy.

PS . Thanks to my wife for not getting mad at me when I woke her up trying to grab my camera. She thought it was worth it after she saw the shot.

Nice shot, Doug!
Have you read or seen Kenneth Libbrecht's books/pictures of snowflakes?

http://www.its.caltech.edu/~atomic/snowcrystals/photo2/photo2.htm

Ken is a physic's professor at Caltech that has an area of research studying and taking pictures of snowflakes.

Your picture reminded me of Ken's work that I had read years ago.

Since Thursday we've gotten about 12" of snow. It finally stopped this afternoon after snowing since yesterday morning. So the kids went out to play for a while...

I used my Nikkor 70-210mm f/4 lens. All are at f/4 and ISO 200. Shutter speeds are 1/500, 1/3200 and 1/4000. Also some adjusting in PP.

Thanks for the link. I found this interesting. Being an engineer this is right up my ally. I will have to experiment. Something to do in winter.

One of my favorite subjects; the gazebo at Lake Anna Park!:)

Great pics everyone but I do feel sorry for you all. When I look out my window all I see is about 1/2 inch of snow. We didn't get a single flake through the month of November. Last year at this time we were buried under a foot of snow. I'm not complaining. Into the month of January and haven't shoveled the driveway once.

Here's some from last year.

Well for those of you who are stuck under a foot of snow and wishing they were in Florida...the grass is not always greener... It was 26° F this morning when I stepped outside to get the newspaper. Low and behold ICE on the roads.

See on Flickr

If this keeps up I might get to ice skate on my pool.

:scared1: I hope it has warmed right up by 2/20! We are spending DD's Feb vaca & sweet 16 in Naples and Disney:) Btw...its 11 here right now.

Here are a few pictures from my backyard today. I think that my DD was more interested in looking at the ice formations than skating today.
