It's pouring snow here now. Being a good southern girl this stuff just naturally freaks me out. I'm all prepared thoug and have a shovel and not planning to go anywhere. It's just a reaction of OMG it snowing!! HIDE lol:scared1:

My husband has been calling and making sure I"m ready and apologizing while laughing, the cad:lovestruc Mom keeps calling and telling me to not go out, make sure I have food and can goods and water. I think she is more freaked out than I am:rotfl:

So I can do this..I can get through 2ft of snow..I'm going to make myself a tshirt if I make it. I'll also have my rooms all painted. The longer I'm in the house, the more rooms I'm going to finish painting.

I can do this, I can do this...I'm not afraid of snow...well okay I am but I can make it. 24 inches is crazy though!

LOL :rotfl: 24 inches, thats nothing!! :rotfl2:

It will all be ok, embrace the snow, go out and build yourself a micky head snowman:thumbsup2

Our first winter in KY we got that and more, not sure how much more, I have blocked that out, but is was more that 24 inches. Being a southern gal myself, I was freaked as well, I mean, how do you drive in it? Well, after 12 years there I figured it out. You will too. Now, after being in MS for the past 2 years, I kinda miss it. Have fun painting.

Amy

Do you have some good books, rented movies (or netflix)? Sorry your DH isn't there to cuddle up with. Sending you hugs and good thoughts. You'll make it!!

Oh and there was an ice storm in the late 70s at our home. We lost power for 3 full days. That normally wouldn't be horrific but we lived in an all electric house which meant - no heat, no stove, no toilets (okay we had toilets but the pump was electric for flushing purposes). We bundled up in front of the wood burning stove. Cooked on the camp stove and got a lot of sleep!! :lmao: The worst was having to take off your clothes to sit on the ice cold potty that was already full! :scared:

Tina --

You'll be okay! Just sit back and enjoy the forced break. Shovel regularly.... unless you have nice neighbors. Make something yummy and comforting in the crock-pot.

(And FYI... the roads are fine right now if you need to get out for something).

we had an ice storm here last december and went without power for a week:mad:
we used a generator for lights and heat ( pellet stove) but couldnt flush, so I filled jugs with water from the stream behind our house and that was used to flush:thumbsup2 ( just pour it in the top to flush)
I felt like a pioneer woman hahaha

I'm not even there adn I'm afraid of it. I prefer my hurricanes. We evacuate in the event of crappy weather.

I know everyone is saying this is unusual...but my skeptic Florida girl ain't believin' a word of it.

If next winter is worse when I am actually there--it will be my first and last winter up there, mark my words.:rolleyes1

Good luck Tina--YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

I'm sure my father did some sort of flushing at some point. However 30 years later I'm still scared of the ice cold toilet seat. :lmao:
And a week??!!! :scared1: You're braver than me.

Oh my does that bring back memories!! We would fill the bath tubs with water before storms so we could bucket flush in power outages. Thankfully our woodstove kept the house so warm we wore shorts to bed even in winter, but hauling wood was no treat!

I'm a snow wuss what can I say?;)

It's just ingrained to freak out. I'm prepared though. I have enough food to feed an army:laughing:

I have movies and books and the dis and tons of stuff on TIVO. I think it's the whole thought of that much snow.

I've never lived somewhere that it snows 3x in a year let alone 3x in a week!

I've weathered tornadoes without blinking but apparently white stuff that melts easily can stop me in my tracks. I think this is a sign from God, I need to go back South:rotfl:

Oh the crock pot! I was just sitting here wondering what to make tomorrow and the crock pot sounds like a wonderful idea!!!

Haha, Tina. I have a bunch of Cali friends who just moved to Quantico over the summer, and they are all having the same reaction to the snow. Good luck with all that shoveling & painting, you sure are going to be sore!

You'll be OK.

Actually, you may end up liking the snow. It is so beautiful, white and sparkly. And it makes everything look so pretty, the way it blankets everything.

And you can make snowmen, have snowball fights, go sledding, make snow angels, etc.

Have fun!

I'm with you!! What girl can resist something so glittery!

You can do it, Tina. It's o.k. It's like a beautiful blanket covering up the dreary winter. You don't have anywhere you have to go so enjoy the forced rest at home.

Do shovel regularly, though, and take some time to play in it. If your car is outside make sure it won't get plowed in, and brush it off every once in a while.

have a good time!

Tell your Momma that canned goods and water are for hurricanes, LOL. Snow vets know that the proper survival supples for snow are milk, eggs, and bread! (And maybe a sack or two of melter, if you remember.)

I went to the grocery store last night after work to pick up a few things and there were lines halfway back down the aisles. As usual for this Southern transplant, I wondered why, until I saw the utterly empty bread section!

Luckily, I live in this little pocket between two ridges of hills, and they almost always divert major storms. The suburbs will get whacked big time, but us city slickers get maybe 2 inches. However, it still doesn't stop the "milk and bread" stampede.:lmao:

Well your braver than I. You might be freaked out by the snow, but you seem to be handling it in stride.
Tornadoes freak me out like nothing else on the planet! We don't have tornadoes in the mountains of California or the Coast of Oregon, so when I moved here I had a panic attack every time NOAA posted a watch. The first year here we lived in a farmhouse on the eastern shore and had a tornado warning. The news said to take shelter and that a tornado had been spotted. I freaked. We didn't have a basement, my husband was gone (they always are), and I had two little kiddos! I ran to my neighbors across the field faster than I ever have in my life. I show up on their doorstep (had barely ever spoken to them) with muddy bare feet and completely panicked. They let us in and told me not to worry they had a basement. Like 5 minutes later the sun was shining and the tornado (which wasn't even powerful enough to blow a shingle from a roof probably) never came close to where we live. I felt like the most giant retard in the universe. Thank God they ended up being awesome neighbors and only teased me occasionally about my phobic sprint through the corn field.
I rent a house with a basement now. And I still break out in a cold sweat every time there is a thunderstorm.

I told my husband after surviving this winter and alone at that, the only glittery thing I want better be in a blue Tiffany bag.;)

LOL! Well at least your closer to NYC here than in the south! I miss my West coast so bad, but a trip to NYC and window shopping at Tiffany goes a long way in soothing my homesickness! ;)
