Snow, cancelling, holding points and banked points

We made the mistake of booking a January trip assuming the school schedule would not be affected by snow (a rare commodity here in central NC) but it looks like we may be wrong. So, I know if we cancel our trip tomorrow (2 days before the trip) we will have holding points we need to use before the end of our April use year - but some of the points we are using were banked from the previous use year - are they gone? Just wanting to make sure I understand the system before I call MS in the morning.

Sorry about the weather--any chance things will improve? All your points used to make the reservation you cancel 2 days before the trip will become holding points with the same restrictions.

They will all have to be used by March 31. You can make a reservation 60 days before check-in (stay must be completed by 3/31).
