When we go to St. John's we were thinking of doing the 5 star snorkeling tour. But I'm thinking the kids might just enjoy sitting at the beach and going for a swim. Can we get the same beach,on our own or by boat, without doing the snorkeling thing?

Yes you can definitely get to Trunk Bay (which is where the excursion goes) on St. John on your own. St. John is absolutely beautiful. There is a snorkling trail right off of the beach so whoever wants to could still snorkel. When we were there we saw a couple taking turns doing the snorkling trail while the other played with their small children on the beach. The water at Trunk Bay is very smooth and clear.

When you dock in St. Thomas, take a taxi to Red Hook where you will catch a ferry to St. John. When you get off the ferry you'll find several taxis waiting to take you to Trunk Bay, or any beach for that mater. The taxis will line up again at Trunk Bay beginning around 1:00 to take people back to the ferry.

Here is a link to the ferry schedule between St. Thomas and St. John: http://www.st-thomas.com/week/ferries.html.

Have a great cruise!

Thanks for all the info. I think we might just do it on our own. You made it sound so easy.
