Snorkeling excursion - kickboard allowed?

I consider myself as having been a life guard from1970 to 2007 "professionally" and still find it hard to give it up ....

A LIFEJACKET is a life saving device for use in an emergency ... not intended as supplemental floatation for a person with questionable swimming skills

An inflatable snorkeling vest is a life saving device for use in an emergency ... not intended as supplemental floatation for a person with questionable swimming skills. It differs from the LIFEJACKET as it can be left not inflated to allow a snorkeler to descent below the surface of the water ... but requires MORE skill from the wearer to know when to inflate! If inflated b4 you jump off the safety factor is GONE!

If a person is not comfortable going into water and REQUIRES an auxiliary device (jacket, vest, board, other person) to build confidence they should STAY OUT of the water.

I've pulled TOO MANY folks out of the water who said "I thought I was OK" and am now too old to do another one.

Neither of which is the location of the snorkeling excursion. Its not a question of whether it can be used on board or on Castaway Cay, it's a question of whether it can be used on the excursion.

Smoking (for example) is something that is not allowed anywhere on board but that does not speak to excursions.

The DCL prohibited list are items that cannot be brought onboard. There is no stipulation regarding where/when/how an item might be used (or not used) -- it simply isn't allowed to be brought onto the ship. If found at boarding, it will be confiscated and available for pick-up at final debarkation. I agree the FAQ headline may be misleading but it really is "Items prohibited on board ship" which is the first part of the heading of the actual list.

FYI...smoking is allowed is designated areas onboard DCL ships.

A kickboard is simply not on the list of prohibited items.

I am not sure DCL would permit a kickboard. Does it fit into these prohibited items -

• Kites, balloons, surfboards, wave boards, inflatable floats, pool noodles, inflatable pools and wagons

You're right, the prohibited list does not specifically include the word kickboard. But, it is similar equipment to the other items on their list.
