It really depends on the tide. When we went out first thing in the morning the depth was totally diffrent than later in the day. As the tide goes out there are more places to stand. Matter of fact I was able to stand up with the water to my waist in some areas...but later on in the same spot it was above my head. So I woulndn't count on areas to stand up....for the most part there aren't any.
The vests inflate....so you can blow them up to hold you or you can just wear it non inflated. The biggest thing for the pool noodles for us was so we could see them and pick out our kids in the crowd. Not that we were letting our girls go far out without us....but if they wanted to wade in and put around we could spot them EASY. Same goes for when we were out with them snorkeling...our heads would be down and we'd be going along...next thing you know you look up and you've managed to wonder away from your group. This way anytime we popped our head out of the water we were able to spot our kids (or who ever in our group had the noodle) fast and easy.
